This study purposed to apply function form content, the three concepts that have been discussed by many philosophers since ancient times, to fashion design. Specific research goals are : first, to define fashion design based on the three concepts : and second, to examine how each of the three concepts function-oriented, form-oriented and content-oriented design have been expressed in women's fashion in the $20^{th} century. For these purposes. the author considered Morris' semiotics, which is the theoretical background of the three concepts, reviewed previous researches in design area, and applied the findings to fashion design. According to the result of applying the threefold structure of semiotics. which is the theoretical background of the three concepts, the pragmatic dimension of fashion design comprehends all functional rules related to the use of dress such as body motion and protection, health and safety. air flow and durability, and its syntactic dimension comprehend all the formal elements of visual design such as the structure, shape, line, color and material of dress. The semantic dimension of fashion design includes the symbolic meanings of dress expressed by emotion, sentiment and images. The three dimensions exist interdependently with one another. According to the result of considering the characteristics of the three concepts in the scope of women's fashion in the $20^{th} century. function-oriented design is characterized by practicality and simplicity, and has been expressed as the fashion of functionalism in the 1920s, that of minimalism in the 1960s, and the basic style from 1970s to 1980s, 1990s and the present. Form-oriented design has pursued aestheticism, putting stress upon form, and has been expressed with organic shapes imitating patterns found in nature in the 1950s and with optical art fashion in the 1960s. Content-oriented design attaches importance to transmission of delicate meanings related to the mental world of human beings, and is represented with symbolic forms. Such a characteristic has been expressed in fashion in the early 20th century influenced by surrealism and, with various types of design breaking established forms as well as metaphors and humors that characterize design in the late 20th century.
This research extracted emotional words for measuring user's emotions expressed while using a cellular phone and a web. And then the emotional words were compared to find out whether the difference in emotional words by the type of products. The results of this study suggest that the hardware-oriented products used for specific purpose such as cellular phone extracted a lot of emotional words related to 'Satisfaction in Usability' and 'Pleasure'. 'Satisfaction in Usability' are conceived satisfying in usability or practicality of product. 'Pleasure' are pleasant emotions expressed while using a product. However the emotional words related to 'Aesthetics' and 'Novelty' were omitted. 'Aesthetics' are expressed by product's appearance and by various visual information while using a product. 'Novelty' are expressed by something that is novel and new that has never been experienced. On the other hand the software-oriented products used rather to find something better and new information than to perform specific tasks such as web extracted a lot of emotional words related to 'Novelty'. Therefore, the results of this research have found evidence that it is desirable to make a set of subjective evaluation scale by the type of products. When making the subjective evaluation scale, it is important to use appropriate emotional words for the purpose of use and the characteristics of those products.
Generally human sensibility is expressed in a certain language. To discover the sensibility of visitors in relation to the forest environment, it is first necessary to determine their exact meanings. Furthermore, it is necessary to sort these terms according to their meanings based on an appropriate classification system. This study attempted to develop a classification system for forest sensibility vocabulary by extracting Korean words used by forest visitors to express their sensibilities in relation to the forest environment, and established the structure of the system to classify the accumulated vocabulary. For this purpose, we extracted forest sensibility words based on literature review of experiences reported in the past as well as interviews of forest visitors, and categorized the words by meanings using the Standard Korean Language Dictionary maintained by the National Institute of the Korean Language. Next, the classification system for these words was established with reference to the classification system for vocabulary in the Korean language examined in previous studies of Korean language and literature. As a result, 137 forest sensibility words were collected using a documentary survey, and we categorized these words into four types: emotion, sense, evaluation, and existence. Categorizing the collected forest sensibility words based on this Korean language classification system resulted in the extraction of 40 representative sensibility words. This experiment enabled us to determine from where our sensibilities that find expressions in the forest are derived, that is, from sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch, along with various other aspects of how our human sensibilities are expressed such as whether the subject of a word is person-centered or object-centered. We believe that the results of this study can serve as foundational data about forest sensibility.
Types of emotional expressions are comprised of vocabulary that describes emotion and composition of sentences to express emotion such as an exclamatory sentence and a rhetorical question, expressions of interjection, adverbs of attitude for an idea, and a style of writing. This study is focused on vocabulary that describes emotion and analyzes the aspect of translation when emotional expression of 'Kyo(驚)' is shown in "Kokoro". As a result, the aspect of translation for expression of 'Kyo(驚)' showed that it was translated to vocabulary as suggested in the dictionary in some cases. However, it was not always translated as suggested in the dictionary. Vocabulary that describes the emotion of 'Kyo(驚)' in Japanese sentences is mostly translated to corresponding parts of speech in Korean. Some adverbs needed to add 'verbs' when they were translated. Different vocabulary was added or used to maximize emotion. However, the corresponding part of speech in English was different from Korean. Examples of Japanese sentences expressing 'Kyo(驚)' by verbs were translated to expression of participles for passive verbs such as 'surprise' 'astonish' 'amaze' 'shock' 'frighten' 'stun' in many cases. Idioms were also translated with focus on the function of sentences rather than the form of sentences. Those expressed in adverbs did not accompany verbs of 'Kyo(驚)'. They were translated to expression of participles for passive verbs and adjectives such as 'surprise' 'astonish' 'amaze' 'shock' 'frighten' 'stun' in many cases. Main agents of emotion were showat the first person and the third person in simple sentences. Translation of emotional expressions when a main agent was the first person showed that the fundamental word order of Japanese was translated as in Korean. However, adverbs of time and adverbs of degree were ended to be added. The first person as the main agent of emotion was positioned at the place of subject when it was translated in English. However, things or causes of events were positioned at the place of subject in some cases to show the degree of 'Kyo(驚)' which the main agent experienced. The expression of conjecture and supposition or a certain visual and auditory basis was added to translate the expression of emotion when the main agent of emotion was the third person. Simple sentences without the main agent of emotion showed that their subjects could be omitted even if they were essential components because they could be known through context in Korean. These omitted subjects were found and translated in English. Those subjects were not necessarily human who was the main agent of emotion. They could be things or causes of events that specified the expression of emotion.

Being digitalized, the music can be easily purchased and delivered to the users. However, there is still some difficulty to find the music which fits to someone's taste using traditional music information search based on musician, genre, tittle, album title and so on. In order to reduce the difficulty, the contents-based or the emotion-based music retrieval has been proposed and developed. In this paper, we propose new method to determine the importance of MPEG-7 low-level audio descriptors which are multi-dimensional vectors for the emotion-based music retrieval. We measured the mutual similarities of musics which represent a pair of emotions expressed by opposite meaning in terms of each multi-dimensional descriptor. Then rough approximation, and inter- and intra similarity ratio from the similarity relation are used for determining the importance of a descriptor, respectively. The set of weights based on the importance decides the aggregated similarity measure, by which emotion-based music retrieval can be achieved. The proposed method shows better result than previous method in terms of the average number of satisfactory musics in the experiment emotion-based retrieval based on content-based search.
Korea is changing rapidly from a single-raced nation into a multi-national nation caused by the huge number of immigrants mostly from China, and Southeast Asian countries. Therefore, various social problems are expressed ostensibly, one of them is a difficulty suffered by children of the second generation of multi-cultural families who enroll to elementary schools in Korea. This should be solved urgently as it is predicted to be an unavoidable problem in future. Only by understanding and accepting mutual cultural differences will be the solution to various problems caused by multi-cultural society. This study aims to understand the differences of emotion about the spatial images. This study was target to Korean and Malaysian design students to perform vocabulary appraisals on the spatial images in school health rooms which used to perform various functions for education, counseling, treatment, etc. The emotional vocabularies used at the appraisal for emotion are based on IRI image languages, which were extracted by the experts, and frequency was progressed by the SPSS 12.0 application. The collected data will be compared and analyzed to ensure the reliability.

Thermal comfort by wearing clothes is the important element which gives influence to a clothing comfort. The thermal comfort of clothes have been evaluated by sensory test and physical property of clothes material. To evaluate a thermophysiological comfort. a new evaluation method which measures the physiological response such as electroencephalogram(EEG) is attracting the attention of many people. In the chilly environment, the EEGs in t재 kinds of thermal conditions : with and without clothes were measured. By utilizing the chaos analysis, the behavior of the obtained EEGs were quantiatively expressed in the correlation dimension. As a result, the correlation dimension of the EEGs in being thermal comfortable feeling by putting on clothes, was bigger than the correlation dimension of the EEGs in being cold and discomfort. These results suggest that chaotic analysis of EEG is effective to the quantitative evaluation of thermal esthesis.
This research basically defines that relationship among simplicity/complexity, other product aesthetics and consumer preference. The goal of this research is to find answer 'How much the simplicity/complexity influence expressed functional shapes on products?' and 'What is relationship between simplicity/complexity and consumer preference?' This is process that first we make categorize products by analysis, and second we analyze each category group for fading propensity from consumers, and finally we verify through design process.
Interest and desire for analogue emotion increased with the dazzling development of digital technology. Especially, as analogue emotion got grafted in the design field, analysis through various expression media is being done. This study seeks to propose design of t-shirt using unique advantage of Hangeul calligraphy that can satisfy the modern flow and pattern design's various expressions. Calligraphy is being used in various fields such as advert, package, logo, movie poster, signboard, graphic design, calligraphy and abstract painting. Formative yet effective in readability and conveying meaning as it's expressed in letters, calligraphy is a field of attention with its contribution in extending the new design area. As a method of the study, altogether 8 pieces of t-shirts were proposed through related preceding research, literary research, co-work with calligraphy author, computer graphic program, and heat transfer. As such, the t-shirt designs which were created by suggesting various design and using traditional materials like calligraphy, can be used as novel and sensual factor, where one can get a glimpse at the potential of development as traditional fashion product.
Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce a methodology to assess driver's emotion stability by using bio-signals. Background: Psychophysiological analysis of driver's behavior has been conducted to improve the driving safety and comfort. However, the variability of bio-signal and individual difference made it difficult to assess the psychophysiological status of drivers that can be expressed as emotional stability of drivers. Method: Two experimental studies were reviewed and summarized. New techniques assessing emotional stability of drivers were explained. Statistical concept and multidimensional space were used to identify the emotionally stable conditions. Conclusion: Psychophysiological approach can provide information of driver's emotional status. The experimental methodology and algorithm used in this study showed the possibility of parameterization of psychophysiological response. Application: Currently measured statistical and geometrical data can be further applied to develop an interactive device monitoring and reacting driver's emotion when driver experiences emotionally unstable or uncomfortable situation.
