APPROACHING A LINEAR PROGRAMMING MODEL FOR PRODUCTION PLANNING OF A READY-MADE GARMENTS INDUSTRY

  • The ready-made garments (RMG) have been making a crucial contribution about of 81% of total export and 12.36 % of total GDP of the country which is now the single biggest export earner for Bangladesh. The cheap production cost is the key important factor to explore this RMG sector. But these RMG sector is running on the basis of intuition based decisions. Though they are making profit it is not optimal. In this study, a deterministic model is developed to help the RMG to minimize the production cost and to maximize their profit along with optimal utilization of available resources. 10 different types of products are taken from one of the garments factories of Gazipur, Dhaka to prepare this research work. This model suggests the manufacturer on which products along with how much should be produced to meet the future demand by maintaining the lowest production cost that ultimately maximize the profit of the organization, and also helps Bangladesh to compete in the international market with 'Made in Bangladesh'. LINDO programming is used here to solve this LP model.

Present Status and Prospects of Oyster Industry in Korea

  • Oyster is the most important item next to tuna based on the market value in Korea's fisheries exports and it shares more than $90\%$ of the world oyster market. Oyster industry is a vital component of the Korea's aquaculture industry. However, it has faced many problems such as (1) a lower productivity of the culture system, (2) an environmental deterioration of the farming area, (3) a higher labor cost, (4) a shortage of of oysters to export, and (5) a poor seedling in nature. Therefore, including it's business forecast, the above problems and some countermeasures are discussed in this paper.

  • This thesis looks out for the korean trade present condition of the korean machinery industry through time series data, analyze the problem about machinery industry by deepening the trade imbalance between JAPANESE and KOEA (The trabe balance of payment about machinery between JAPANESE and KOREA, US$7,750,000,000 in 1992, us$8,450,000 in 1993,US$9,500,000,000 in 1994 forecast), have shown a reform measure of the balance of payment with indicate the importance of rearing the machinery industry.

  • 한국 철도시스템의 해외진출을 위한 효과적 전략을 모색함에 있어 시장유형론적 접근이 필수적이다. 시장선택을 통하여 우선순위 시장을 선별하고 시장세분화를 통하여 각 하위시장의 특성에 적합한 마케팅 전략을 설계하여야 한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 글로벌 철도공급시장에 적합한 시장유망도 지표체계와 시장세분화 방안을 제시하였다. 아울러 시장유형론적 관점에서 최근 한국의 주요 철도기업이 추진하고 있는 수출유망 프로젝트를 분석하고 철도시스템 수출을 위한 전략적 시사점을 도출하였다.

  • National Competency Standards (NCS) is the knowledge, technology and attitude a country has organized by its industry sectors and levels to necessary to fulfill the duties in the industrial filed. NCS has been standardized in the national dimension to successfully execute the duties of the industrial site. Currently, many universities of South Korea have opened courses on trade practices however, these courses are not consistent in the execution of criteria and unit of export-import management competency of the NCS and not established well-balanced. This study explains the concepts and structure of the NCS, analyzes the execution criteria and unit of export-import management competency of the NCS and presents the subjects that need to be reinforced or established in the future based on the current status of the curriculum. Departments of Trade practices need to recognize the changes in the trading environment, boldly straighten the existing subjects which overlap or do not conform to changes by using the NCS skills analysis and establish new courses that match for the era to recover original competitiveness of Trade Department.

일본에 수출된 한국영화 특성 분석 (Analysis of the Distinction of the Korean Movies in the Japanese Market)

  • 최근 국내외에서 주목을 받아 온 한국영화는 질적, 양적으로 성장하였지만, 제작비 상승으로 해외시장 진출을 고려하지 않으면 안 되는 시점에 와 있다. 본 연구는 한국영화 수출액의 50% 이상을 차지하는 일본 시장에 초점을 맞춰 수출된 한국 영화 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과 일본에 수출된 영화들은 한국에서 흥행성적이 좋았던 영화, 일본에서 인지도가 있는 감독과 배우가 출연한 영화 비중이 높았고, 내용면에서는 일본 원작 영화의 수출 비율이 높았다. 장르에 있어서는 멜로 장르의 비중이 높고 코미디 수출은 저조하여 코미디가 문화적 할인율이 높은 장르임을 시사하였다. 본 연구는 실제 데이타에 의한 계량적 분석을 통해 해외 시장에 대한 이해를 넓히고, 일본에 수출할 영화를 기획할 때 프리프로덕션 단계에 도움이 되는 정보를 제공한 의의를 가진다.

  • Software export is very important for developing the domain software industry. Up to now, the study related in this issue is not enough even if exports are not activated. In our study, we treated and analyzed the three SME cases that have each successful record in recent years focusing to sales channels establishment and product localization. This study was done by interviewing the marketing directors mainly, and applied email exchanges, phones, and document analyses. Some implications can be addressed for the potential SME software exports. In the perspectives of sales channels building, the trust for product and firm itself is needed to have a good offshore partners. These are required to make the good relationship with partners, brand value's diffusion, and technical competency. As for product localization, the customization is important to meet the needs for local users effectively. So it is desirable to accept the advisory suggestions from the local consulting experts or representative customers. And the joint export strategy using the platform by linking some related products is effective for SME's software product's export.

  • In the context of export-oriented growth strategy, Korea has promoted the conclusion of FTAs and 16 FTAs have entered into force or concluded so far. Despite of these efforts, the expansion of the global value chain (GVC) has resulted in fragmentation of production processes and international companies have been struggling to meet the criteria for determining the rule of origin. In order to overcome these difficulties, some foreign FTAs have been introducing cross-cumulation of origin. In this paper, we try to examine empirically whether the easing of the rules of origin using cross-cumulation contributes to the increase in actual value-added exports. we quantify the effects of cross-cumulation included in the EU-Vietnam FTA on Korean exports of the textile through a gravity model using the concept of value-added export. Based on the analysis results, the proportion of value-added exports in Vietnam increased by adoption of cross-cumulation of origin, which consequently resulted into an increase in total exports. This paper tries to draw several implications for the rules of origin in Korea's FTAs including cross-cumulation considering the export value chain of Korea.

Policy-based Loans to Korean SME Exporters and the Intensive Margin of Exports

  • This study examines the extent to which policy-based loans to SME exporters affect their export performance (the intensive margin of exports). We also investigate the heterogeneous export effects of policy-based loans that may depend on firm- and industry-specific characteristics, such as credit ratings, debt-to-assets ratios, firm size and age. To do so, we conduct a survey, of 1,000 Korean SMEs, that collect information on firm-level exports and policy-based loans. The main empirical findings strongly support that SMEs that receive policy-based loans tend to increase their export volumes. However, these loans' positive impact on exports are only valid for SME exporters with credit scores of 12 or greater (that is, SMEs that have difficulty accessing the external financial market). The estimation results with respect to SMEs' dependence on external financing imply that policy-based loans for SMEs in sectors that are heavily dependent on external finance are effective in that they are instrumental in increasing these firms' exports. These empirical findings emphasize the importance of the external financial market to SME exporters who face various up-front investments that are related to their exporting activities.

Trade Exhibition for Small & Medium Enterprises by Using of Special Conditions in Foreign Marketing Insurance

  • Korea's trading volume is expected to surpass USD 1 trillion in 2011. Korean economy achieves this largely due to its dependence on export and enhanced technological capacity and product quality. Improved recognition of Korean enterprises in the global arena also helped. However, the largest reason behind theses could be found in exporters' ceaseless marketing endeavors and continued government supports. Today, more and more people become to rely on trade exhibitions to boost export effectively. Trade exhibitions are employed as a useful tool to attract buyers and enter a market. This is because such exhibitions' marketing effect and professional aspects. South Korean export relies on large conglomerates for most part. However, 95% of the country's entire industry are small and medium-sized companies. This means that SMEs' export has a huge impact on the national economy. Therefore, as a way to improve SME export and minimize their losses, we need to use trade exhibitions more actively. The overseas policy insures only promotional activities regarding foreign exhibition and fair (including international events held in Korea), foreign distributor, shopping mall, home shopping, etc. and does not include air fare, traffic cost in the local place, accommodation cost and dining expenditures as costs to be excluded mentioned above. It is not easy for them to take part in events abroad if they have to pay for such expenses. If full financial support is difficult, the Korea trade insurance corporation still may give a certain level of aid for successful exporters to engage in marketing activities abroad more actively and further stimulate SMEs' export.
