  • In the performance of this research we aimed at surveying·studying the trouble factors, problems and improvement plans to extend agricultural products and agro-food and providing basic data for the globalization of Korean agricultural products and agricultural foods in future. All the respondents highly recognized, in general, the problems in exporting agricultural products and agro-food, and it was surveyed that the biggest reason lay in the insufficiency of the scout for new buyers and the lack in opening overseas market and marketing specialists. As for the problems of the supporting system of the export of agricultural products, it was pointed out that the level of recognition was fairly high, but the procedures were difficult, and they indicated the problems of non-benefits in spite of the recognition of the selection. For the purpose, it could be known that it required the publicity and education as to export supporting system, and also required the extension of export supporting system and the improvement of the system. Finally, in relation with the export promotion plan, the factors blocking the export promotion of agricultural products marked the highest in the weak management size and production foundation and the lack in export mind and special workforce. Therefore, considering that most of exporters of agricultural products are small/medium sized businesses, we foresaw that we lack in the opening of overseas market and the capacity of marketing activities, and analyzed that it was necessary to open an overseas market in the dimension of the government and cooperate with the marketing to solve the problems.

  • This study is to explore the ways to increase the export performance of start-up companies, as opportunities are rising along with more companies entering the global market. Thus the study analyzed the factors affecting export performance of the start-up company by mainly looking at the international marketing capabilities of enterprises type of marketing strategy and internal environmental capabilities. The following were derived as factors for marketing 4P strategy: innovation of product, flexibility of export price, differentiation of distribution channels, diversity of promotional activities, and positive-ness of promotion. For internal capabilities of enterprises, innovation of CEO, initiative of CEO, risk susceptibility of CEO, information power of export market, and information power of competitor were derived as factors. Two types of performances were considered for export performance, financial and non-financial. Among innovation of product and risk susceptibility of CEO the non-financial performance of export performance, and only differentiation of distribution channels of marketing 4p strategy the financial performance. It showed that since performance was different depending on the entrepreneurship of the CEO, only innovative products differentiated from small and medium enterprises. risk susceptibility of CEO increased export outlook by corporate acknowledgment and image, creation of potential customers, and financial performance affected only differentiation in distribution channel rather than entrepreneurial spirit, information power, or organizational flexibility because of short business career and insufficient period enough to gain trust. Therefore, start-up companies need to improve their non-financial export performance by increasing innovation of product and risk susceptibility of the CEO. The companies need to widen the differentiation of distribution channels in the financial export performance.

Primary industries are what the Korean government paid the greatest attention to. Rice was excluded from the negotiations from the get go, and was joined by 548 other food items including pork, apples, pears, beef, chili, garlic etc. These foodstuffs account for about one-third of the agricultural and livestock products that Korea produces, and are not going to be subject to tariff elimination. • This study aims to investigate the overall relationship between the deterring and facilitating factors in export activities of the small and medium export companies. Nine export deterring factors are analyzed by multinational dimensional scaling(MDS) method to identify key dimensions underlying those factors. Perceptual mapping shows that some factors such as brand image, operating capital and e-trade infra are found similar in its degree of difficulties in export activities. Regression analysis shows that government export promotion measures might play an effective export facilitating factors to ease the export deterring factors like market information and manufacturing skill. Whereas difficulties arising from e-trade infra, operating capital, and brand image might be eliminated by internal competency of company, difficulties from distribution channel might be lessened by overseas orientation of chief executive of company.

  • This paper investigates the relationship between export and economic variables such as trade insurance, world economy activity, relative price, unemployment rate, exchange rate volatility, using monthly data. I employ Johansen cointegration methodology since the model must be stationary to avoid the spurious results. The results indicate that there is a long-run relationship between export and variables. Also, the empirical analysis of cointegrating vector using the CCR, DOLS, FMOLS reveals that the increases of trade insurance has positive relations and the increases of exchange rate volatility have negative relations with export. Especially, DOLS based on Monte Carlo simulations, of this estimator being superior in small samples compared to a number of alternative estimators, as well as being able not only to accommodate higher orders of integration but also to account for possible simultaneity within regressors of a potential system. This paper also applies impulse-response functions to get the additional information regarding the responses of the export to the shocks of the variables. The result indicates that export positively to trade insurance and then decay fast compare with exchange rate volatility. Consequently, trade insurance plays the role of trade policy for export promotion in Korea. Whereas, increase of exchange risk result in reduction of export. Therefore, the support of trade insurance should be expanded and the stabilization of the foreign exchange market must be done for the export promotion.

  • With shifting the paradigm to digital economy, the digital industry becomes one of the national strategic industries. The digital industry has not only significant effects on forward and backward related industries but is also creating its own value. Furthermore, the effects of conversion with diverse products also play an important role in adding value. Since the early 2000s, Korea's culture so called 'Hallyu' (Korean wave) has been spreading to neighboring Asian countries such as China, Japan, Hong Kong, Therefore we have a good opportunity to increase our competitiveness with the development of the digital content industry using various base resources in conjunction with the spread of Hallyu culture in the Southeast Asian region. In this paper we attempt to suggest several schemes to promote our exports of digital contents while analyzing the current status of the Korean digital industry and addressing some problems and barriers to the export of the digital content industry. There are several schemes to be proposed in order to promote Korean exports of digital contents, as follows: 1) to foster global digital contents, 2) to establish a supporting system, 3) to build a marketing and R&D center, 4) to operate a test-bed of digital contents and 5) to fund expenses such as marketing.

  • In this paper, we explore the effects of export insurance on the Korea's export by using the gravity model with the data of 112 countries that Korea exports on years of 2005 and 2009. For this model, we used the Korea export as a dependent variables and real GDP, distance between the two nations, export insurance, country credit rating of the Korea's counterpart countries and FTA were used as an independent variables. The results show that the underwriting performance of the export insurance and the sovereign credit rating of the export counterpart countries have the positive impact on Korea's export. Also, the impact of the export insurance is more increasing to the Korea exportation but the importance of the economy size of the export counterpart countries decreased after 2008 global financial crisis. Particularly, the influence to the export by the sovereign credit rating has diminished in that period and this seems to be due to the export insurance has increased. These results imply that the export insurance plays an important role to promote the Korea's exportation since 2008 global recession. Especially, if the recession continues, then there will be more crippling impact to the small-mid size companies rather than large size companies. Therefore, Korea government should do their best to continuously expand the export insurance for the purpose of increasing Korea exportation, expecially to the small-mid size companies.

  • Until recently, Japanese cuisine was known only for sushi and was still considered exotic outside the archipelago. However, today the number of specialized restaurants which serve other traditional foods is constantly increasing all over the world, making Japanese gastronomy one of the most influential. Japanese government has supported the promotion of national cuisine worldwide in different ways, making washoku (Japanese traditional cuisine) one of the main elements of Japan's soft power and cultural diplomacy. In this paper, I will analyse the connection between Japan's gastrodiplomacy, defined as the use of typical food and dishes as an instrument of soft power, and Japan's food security strategy. I will argue that the strategy of promotion of washoku worldwide is not a mere act of popularization of Japanese food but it is strictly related to the issue of the low self-sufficiency rate of the country, as the main objective of the government is the raise of food export, in order to foster agricultural production and improve self-sufficiency.
