무관한 산업에 대한 정벌적 관세부과 (Tariffs on Irrelevant Industries)

  • 전통적으로 자국 산업의 이익보호를 위해 관세는 널리 사용되어 왔다. 개발도상의 단계에 있는 나라들은 자국의 유치산업을 보호할 목적으로 관세를 사용하는 반면, 선진국들은 자국의 상품이 타국의 시장에 진출할 수 있도록 타국을 압박하는 수단으로 사용되는 경우가 많다. 본 논문에서는 선진국이 자국의 특정 수출품을 개발도상국 시장에 일정한 비율 이상 진출시키기 위해 개발도상국의 제3의 생산품에 관세를 부과하겠다는 위협을 하는 경우 그 경제적 효과를 간단한 게임이론 모형을 통해 살펴본다. 만약 관세가 부과된 제3의 생산품이 주력 수출품인 경우 개발도상국 정부는-주력 수출품 생산자들의 로비 등을 통해-문제가 된 상품에 일정한 제재를 부과함으로써 선진국과의 마찰을 자발적으로 해소하려는 유인을 갖게 됨을 보인다. 이러한 결과는 최근 FTA로 대변되는 양자 간 무역협정의 체결에서 나타나는 산업 간 이해득실의 차이를 개별 산업의 협상력 차이로 설명할 수 있다는 의미를 지닌다.

Belt and Road Initiatives and the Competitiveness of Natural Rubber Exports: Evidence from the BRI Region

  • This study examines the export competitiveness of four major natural rubber exporters in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) region and investigates the factors affecting bilateral natural rubber export. This study utilized the revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA) to measure export competitiveness. Next, this study employed the gravity model using the Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimation to analyze the factors affecting bilateral export from the four major natural rubber exporters to 46 countries in the region. The analysis is conducted by using annual data from 2001 till 2018. The findings showed that all four major exporters maintained their export competitiveness. Indonesia and Vietnam notably exhibited increasing trends in the early 2000s. Besides, the market share for Malaysia and Vietnam have increased from 2013 to 2015 with the BRI implementation in 2013. In addition, this study discovered that non-tariff measures (NTM) have a positive and significant impact on the bilateral export of natural rubber. The overall findings strongly indicate that the natural rubber export has increased post BRI announcement. The outcome highlighted the benefits of BRI implementation on the natural rubber export. This study is the first attempt to apply the gravity model on the natural rubber exports within the BRI region.

한국 수출의류제품의 품목 특성 -1990년대를 중심으로- (Characteristics of Export Articles in Korean Clothing Trade -Focused on the 1990's-)

  • Clothing exports of Korea has grown rapidly till the latter half of the 1980's, contributing Korean economic development. However from the 1990's, the amount, the world market share and the international competitiveness of clothing exports have declined. Based on these phenomena, the purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of export articles in Korean Clothing Trade focused on the 1990's. Statistical data of clothing articles(SITC 84 : Articles of apparel & clothing accessories) were used. The relative importance, trade orientation tendency and unit price of each export clothing articles were analyzed. The results of the study were as follows. On the relative importance, trade orientation tendency and unit price of each export clothing articles, outer garments or products that required complicated production process(e.g., coats, suits, ensembles, jackets, dress) had been decreased in the portion and weakened in the export orientation tendency. But one item in a set or casual wear like trousers, skirts, blouses, shirts, Jerseys, pullovers, T-shirts has been increased in the portion and risen in the unit price. These trends means that clothing exports of Korea were more focused on those category and the international competitiveness on those articles were advanced. From these results, this study can be contributed to establish the concrete clothing export articles strategies of Korean firms.

The Knowledge Transfer of Tesco UK into Korea, in Terms of Retailer Brand Development and Handling Processes

  • With the increasing market share of retailer brands, many authors have paid considerable attention to retailer brands. Before market liberalisation in 1996 in Korea, retailer brand market was led by the supermarket retailing format, although the first retailer brand product was developed by the department store format. In parallel with the entry of foreign multiple retailers, the retailer brand market has experienced rapid growth. Particularly, the expansion of Tesco UK with well-established retailing know-how into Korea has encouraged Tesco Korea to actively get involved in retailer brand program. As a result, Tesco Korea has led retailer brand market in the Korean marketplace. The research starts with the question of why Tesco Korea has achieved such a higher retailer brand share. Accordingly, this study is to explore how Tesco UK has transferred its own retailing knowledge into Tesco Korea, in terms of retailer brand program development. In order to explore why the retailer brand share of Tesco Korea is higher than that of its counterparts, the author adopted in-depth interview with prepared-questions and store observation as a research methodology. To examine working process as well as information flows within Tesco Korea and from UK to Korea, in-depth interview method is one of the most suitable research methodologies, because of the difficulty of quantifying information or data related to work flows. In addition, to increase the validity of information, the researcher had interviews with Tesco Korea supplier and store personnel. Based on these research techniques, this research explored how Tesco UK has influenced or advised Tesco Korea, particularly, from the point of view of knowledge transfer. Since the entry of Tesco UK into Korea as a joint-venture, the retailer brand market share of Tesco Korea has continuously increased. It would be expected that Tesco UK has helped Tesco Korea to settle down in the Korean market. During interviews with Tesco and a Tesco supplier, the researcher found that Tesco Korea has obviously taken an advantage of retailing know-how created by Tesco UK. Furthermore, the retailer brand development and handling process of Tesco Korea has been operated with the help of Tesco UK. This might mean that Tesco UK has directly or indirectly an impact on the improvement of Korean retailer brand development skills. As a mechanism to transfer retailing knowledge developed in the home market into the host market, one of the international retailers, Tesco UK has adopted many different ways such as annual meeting, trading meeting to import or export own retailer brand products, offering of operation manual developed by Tesco UK and buyer cooperation between Tesco UK and Korea, in order to share information. Through these communication techniques, the knowledge of Tesco UK has been transferred to Tesco Korea. This research accordingly suggests that retailer brand market share is apparently related to how sophisticated or advanced the knowledge of the retailer brand development and handling process of retailers are. It is also demonstrated by this research that advanced development and handling skills make a considerable contribution to increasing retailer brand share in markets with a lower share or no presence of retailer brands.

우리나라 의료기기산업의 대중국 경쟁력 연구 (The competitiveness study of Korea Medical Device Industry in China)

  • 본 연구에서는 중국시장에서 우리나라의 국제경쟁력을 보유한 수출특화품목을 도출하기 위하여 RCA지수, MCA지수, TSI지수를 통해 우리나라와 중국 의료기기산업의 국제경쟁력을 분석하였으며 도출된 국제경쟁력 지수를 그룹화하고 연도별로 변화추이를 살펴보았다. 우리나라는 중국시장에서 우리나라 의료기기 품목의 경쟁력을 강화하기 위하여 지속적으로 중국 의료기기 시장 동향을 분석하고 중국시장에서 우리의 시장점유율과 경쟁우위를 파악하여 수출특화품목을 도출하고 발굴해야 할 것이다.

세계 관상어산업의 경쟁력 분석을 통한 우리나라 관상어산업의 육성 방향 (Fostering direction of the Ornamental Fish Industry in Korea through a competitive analysis of International Ornamental Fish Industry)

  • This research examined a task to foster into the export industry, through analyzing the competitiveness of the ornamental fish industry and identifying the position of Korea's ornamental industry in the world. Ornamental fish in Korea holds the world's leading aquaculture technology, but products are limited to a few species, lacking competitive products. In the case of aquarium supplies, the Korean technology level is receiving relatively positive marks in the global market, but ornamental fish products are lagging behind the global trend. In other words, Korea's ornamental fish industry has the overall technical foundation, but lacks differentiation in the global market. Meanwhile, Korea's market share of world trade market in fishery products is minimal. Growth was also analyzed not high compared to other countries. Various trade competitiveness index results rated very low in competitiveness, but it is hard to compare Korea with other countries which have already built a strong foundation in the ornamental fish industry. Therefore, for the mid to long term Korea should adapt a "Choice and concentration" strategy and focus on the production of ornamental fish and aquarium supplies, which will enable Korea to become differentiated in the global market and capture the world exports.

유통서비스의 글로벌 시장적응력- 월마트와 까르푸를 중심으로 - (Global Market Accommodation of Distribution Service- Focus on Wall Mart and Carrefour -)

  • The rapid expansion of regionalism has resulted in the creation of blocs of the global economy, so that those countries not belonging to one or more blocs can be discriminated. The purpose of this paper is to examine the competition policy theoretically, international background with issues, and discussion trend of global enterprise. By doing them, this paper suggests the responsive plan, future prospects, and policy directions for the competition policy by distribution service. There is not a statistically significant relationship between international diversification strategy and firm performance. However, we observed some tendency that the larger the firm size, the higher the firm performance, assuming the degree of international diversification or multinationality to be constant. However, the export productivity increase after 1~2 years, and there exits a clear evidence that the innovation investment increases a firm's export competitiveness as time goes on.

Analysis of Competitiveness in Steel Distribution Industry between China and Japan

  • Purpose - This paper reviews the change of steel export-import structure between Japan and China by the courtesy of international business reference index and stress to analyze comparative advantage under the circumstance of time-series evaluating database by 3 indexes. Research design, data, methodology - Per economic phase, both China-Japan have mutually a complementary base. Under this kind of view point, the reason why to conduct this study is to realize how this 2 country's trade competitiveness should be improved and strengthened. Results - Under this research data and analysis outcomes, bilateral intra-economy's potential supplementation is enormous. Additionally, expected benefits from here are so sufficiently assured as we compare them with any other regional economic integrated society. Conclusions - When we review our economic point of view, Northeast economic cooperations between China and Japan can provide a chance for industrial technological cooperations not only in steel business but also in other business areas. Come to think of the circumstance to accelerate competitions between 2 country's industries past time and acknowledge concrete resource supplier including expanding export market and diversification.

한국과 일본 안경산업의의 경쟁력 비교 (Competitiveness Comparison between Korea and Japan in the Spectacles Industry)

  • 목적: 본 고는 한국 안경산업의 대 일본 경쟁력을 평가하는데 목적이 있다. 방법: 대 일본 안경산업의 경쟁력을 평가하기 위해서 시장점유율지수, 무역특화지수, 시장비교우위지수를 이용하여 수출경쟁력 지수를 분석한다. 결과: 한국 안경산업의 대 일본 시장비교우위지수 결과를 보면 안경렌즈와 콘택트렌즈가 경쟁력이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 또한 대 일본 무역특화지수 결과도 마찬가지로 안경렌즈와 콘택트렌즈가 수출경쟁력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 따라서 한국 안경산업의 대 일본 주요 수출품목으로는 안경렌즈와 콘택트렌즈의 수출을 강화하면서 우리의 안경산업 이이지를 개선하는 것이 선행되어야 하며, 이후에 다른 품목으로 수출을 확대해가는 전략이 필요하다.

국산 안경제품의 중국시장 수출성과 분석 (An Analysis of the Export Performance of Korean Eyewear Products in China Market)

  • 본 연구는 중국 안경시장을 대상으로 국산 안경제품이 현지 시장에서 어느 정도의 경쟁력을 가지고 있고 경쟁력이 어떻게 변화하고 있는가를 고찰하기 위해 한국 안경산업의 현황과 대중국 수출성과 및 SWOT 분석을 실시한 후 이로부터 국산 안경제품의 중국시장 수출 활성화에 대한 시사점을 제안한다. 분석을 위해 한국무역협회 통계자료에서 2003년부터 2012년까지의 안경제품의 수출입 자료를 추출하고 이를 토대로 시장점유율지수, 무역특화지수, 현시비교우위지수를 산출하여 분석하였다. 대중국 수출현황 분석 결과 한국 안경산업은 만성적인 적자를 기록하고 있는 상황에서 현지 시장 점유율은 평균 5% 미만이었고, 품목별로는 콘택트렌즈가 흑자를 지속하고 있는 반면 안경테, 안경, 안경렌즈, 선글라스는 적자를 보였으며, 분석지수를 활용한 수출성과 분석에서도 콘택트렌즈만이 경쟁력을 확보하였을 뿐 전반적으로 국산 안경제품의 대중국 경쟁력은 낮게 나타났다. 연구 결과는 한국 안경제품의 대중국 수출 활성화를 위해서는 현지 시장의 니즈를 충족하는 창의적이고 차별화된 제품 디자인 개발 능력을 강화하고 신소재의 다양한 기능을 갖춘 제품을 개발하며 현지 시장에 지속적인 신제품 출시를 통해 브랜드 인지도를 향상시켜 가야 함을 시사하고 있다. 아울러 국내외 기업과의 전략적 제휴 및 현지에서 한류 마케팅을 적극 추진하고 비정상적인 제품의 유통구조를 합리적으로 개선하며 정부의 체계적인 지원시스템이 마련되어야 함을 시사한다.
