본 연구는 혁신유형과 네트워크 형태간의 관계를 탐색적으로 고찰하였다. 즉, 기업의 혁신유형에 따라 사회적 자본의 특성이 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지를 실증 분석하고 있다. 이 관계를 검증하기 위해 2005년 6월에서 7월 사이에 실시된 "경북 IT기업 기술혁신활동 조사"에서 나타난 168개 기업 자료를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석은 IT기업의 기술혁신 유형변수로 '탐색형 기업', '활용형 기업'으로 구분하였고, 사회적 자본은 네트워크의 형태를 나타내는 '구조적 변수'와 강도를 나타내는 '관계적 변수'로 구분하여 구성형태를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 탐색형 기업에서는 네트워크의 범위가 넓고(sparse network) 약한 연계(weak tie) 관계를 가지는 반면, 활용형 기업에서는 네트워크가 범위를 좁고(dense network) 강한 연계(strong tie) 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다.

Numerous studies in the field of buyer-supplier relationship research have focused on the buyer's performance. In contrast, supplier's performance has been paid relatively little attention by researchers, especially the research about the supplier's innovation in the relationship is still in its early stage. In this paper, we examine the relation between the attribute of buyer-supplier relationship and the attribute of supplier's innovation through case research. We define the attribute of buyer-supplier relationship as 'tie strength' (Granovetter, 1973), and the attribute of supplier's innovation as 'exploitation or exploration' (March, 1991). We selected the semiconductor equipment industry of U.S.A, Japan and Korea and firm (JUSUNG Engineering) as cases that examine the relation. We found that a strong tie relationship is positively associated with supplier's exploitation based innovation, and a weak tie relationship is positively related to it's exploration based innovation in this research also. In addition, we could verify reduction of strong tie relationship cause supplier's organizational change.

The purpose of this study is to provide an explanation for the association between the characteristics of a network and the type of innovation by considering the effect of absorptive capacity. To do so, this study examined the moderating effects of absorptive capacity on the characteristics of network-innovation relationship in a technical-driven venture company. In order to obtain a better understanding about consequences caused by interfirm network, information was obtained from 169 Korean IT venture companies. Results confirmed that the network diversity is positively associated with exploration. Our results also suggested that the network strength is positively associated with exploitation. Finally, we found a positive two-way interaction between absorptive capacity and the network diversity-exploration relationship. Then, we discussed implications and directions for future research.

Open-source software development projects are well suited for exploring new ideas and acquiring knowledge from developers outside of the project. In this paper, we examine the impact of external developers on innovation in open-source software development from the perspective of organizational learning theory. We examine the roles of external and internal developers, who "explore" and "exploit," respectively, on the innovation performance of 17 691 open-source software development projects whose data is stored in the GitHub platform. The results indicate that a multifaceted strategy, in which the exploitation successfully supports the exploration, is most effective for their success. The results also indicate that the role of exploration decreases after the release of the software.

엔씨소프트는 모든 고객이 게임과 콘텐츠를 통해 상호 연결되는 엔터테인먼트 혁신의 공간을 꿈꾸고 있다. 이를 위해 엔씨소프트는 게임 기반의 고유 기술 역량으로 AI 및 IT 기술을 활용해 엔터테인먼트 산업에 대한 확장 전략을 현재 추구하고 있다. 본 연구는 엔씨소프트에 관한 사례연구를 통해 다소 도전적인 탐험적 혁신과 활용적 혁신을 동시에 추구하는 것이 왜 콘텐츠 기업 경영에 중요한지에 관한 실무적 시사점을 제안하고자 진행되었다. 엔씨소프트는 꾸준히 게임 역량을 장기간 축적하여 게임기획, 프로그래밍, 그래픽 디자인 등에서 점진적 혁신을 추구, 관리하였다. 또한, 혁신적 성과를 위해 K-POP, 디지털 콘텐츠 플랫폼, 영화, 애니메이션 등에 관한 영역으로 진출하기 위해 주요 콘텐츠 기업들과 전략적 제휴를 추진하며 탐험적 학습을 추구하고 있다. 본 연구가 제안하는 연구 결과는 엔터테인먼트 및 콘텐츠 산업의 경영진들에게 중요한 시사점을 제공해주었다. 또한, 탐험 및 활용 전략의 실행에 관한 어려움을 겪는 기업가들에게 효과적인 실행 로드맵을 제공하는데 본 연구는 기여하였다.

The study aims to investigate the relationship between innovation activities and business process performance in higher education institution (hereinafter referred to as "HEI") context. The data was collected using a survey and later analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLSSEM) and SmartPLS software. A total of 50 questionnaires were submitted from respondents representing vocational study program management located in Makassar, Indonesia. The findings show that two hypotheses discussed in this study fit the empirical data. Specifically, the results show that there is a positive relationship between innovation activities and business process performance, involving two types of innovation activities, which are exploration activities and exploitation activities, within HEIs. Explorative activity is firmly related to exploitative activity, which furthermore links to business process performance within the HEIs observed. The results confirm that exploration activity can stimulate and lead the HEIs management to generate exploitation activity. For instance, capabilities to absorb knowledge from the external institution may lead this institution to generate advanced academic processes, as well as more efficient and effective managerial processes. The study also signifies ambidexterity capacity, suggesting that it may lead HEIs management to formulate proper strategies in achieving better performance and gaining competitive advantage.

With rapid development of information and communication technologies, open collaboration can be eased through the Internet. Open source software, as a representative area of open collaboration, is developed and adopted to various fields. In this research, based on organizational learning theory, we examine the impacts of exploration and exploitation on innovation performance in open source software development projects. We define knowledge exploration as a number of developers from outside organization and knowledge exploitation as the ratio of member of an organization who participated in an open source software project managed by the organization. For analysis, we collect data of 4794 projects from github which is a representative open source software development platform using Web crawler developed by Python. As a result, we find that excessive exploration has curvilinear (invers U-shape) relationship on project performance. On the other hand, exploitation with enough external developers will positively impact on project performance.

온라인 기술시장은 기술거래에서 발생하는 거래비용을 낮춰줌으로써 기술공급자에게 기술을 외부적으로 활용할 기회를 제공할 것으로 기대된다. 이 논문은 온라인 기술시장의 존재가 기술공급자의 기술활용 전략에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 국내 온라인 기술시장 중 국가기술은행에 공급된 특허기술을 대상으로, 기술공급 기업이 온라인 기술시장에 제공하는 기술의 특성과 해당기업들이 보유하고 있는 특허기술의 특성을 비교하는 실증분석을 수행하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기술공급 기업이 온라인 기술시장에 제공하는 기술의 특성이 진부화된 특허, 기술공급자의 특허활동이 활발하지 않은 비핵심 기술영역의 특허, 청구항수와 발명자수가 많은 특허인 것을 보여준다. 이와 같은 결과는 온라인 기술시장이 기술공급 기업들이 내부적으로 사용하지 않는 기술의 활용을 가능하게 하는 역할을 하고 있음을 의미한다.

새로운 가능성의 탐험(Exploration)과 기존 확실성의 활용(Exploitation)간 균형은 조직 학습뿐 아니라 전략, 혁신, 연구개발의 중요한 문제다. 기술의 융복합화 트렌드 속에 기업들은 지속적 경쟁 우위를 위해 기술 지식 자산을 가급적 다양하게 보유하려는 동시에 특정 분야에 깊은 기술 역량을 가지려 한다. 기업들은 기술 포트폴리오 전략 고민하지만, 기술 속성에 대한 고려는 제한적이다. 첨단 기술의 대표인 나노기술은 기존의 제품 및 사업 중심 기술과 달리 다양한 분야에 활용되는 일반목적기술 또는 플랫폼 기술 속성을 가지고 있다. 본 연구는 다국적 기업들이 플랫폼 기술로서 나노기술에 대해 탐험과 활용, 즉 다각화와 특정 기술 우위 관점의 포트폴리오 전략이 혁신 및 재무 성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 패널 데이터 기반으로 다중 회귀 분석을 하였다. 본 연구의 실증 분석결과는 기존의 제품 기술들과 달리, 플랫폼 기술로서의 나노기술은 다각화와 특정 기술 우위가 증가할수록 혁신 성과와 재무 성과에 모두 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 나노기술의 포트폴리오 형태, 즉 다각화와 전문성 기반의 특정 기술 우위 중에, 다각화된 나노기술 포트폴리오가 특정 기술에 우위를 갖는 경우보다 혁신 성과와 재무 성과를 향상시키는 데 더 많은 기여를 하고 있다는 결과를 얻었다. 이는 기업들이 자원의 제약하에서 일반목적기술의 경우 포트폴리오 전략에 어떻게 추구하는 것이 효율적인지를 시사한다.

본 연구의 목적은 개방형 정보 혁신을 기술 흡수형 혁신과 기술 활용형 혁신으로 나누어 전략적 제휴 요인과 통합하여 수출성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구는 구조방정식모형의 PLS(Partial Least Square)를 사용하여 개방형정보 혁신과 전략적 제휴, 수출성과의 관계에서 조직문화의 조절효과를 설정한 6개의 가설을 201개 표본으로 실증분석 했다. 분석 결과 개방형 정보 혁신 중 기술 흡수형 혁신은 전략적 제휴에 영향을 미치지 못했다. 반면 기술활용형 혁신은 전략적 제휴에 긍정적 영향을 주었다. 전략적 제휴는 또한 수출성과에 긍정적 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 조절효과 분석 결과 조직문화와 기술 흡수형 혁신의 상호작용은 전략적 제휴에 긍정적 영향을 주었다. 또한, 조직문화와 기술 활용형 혁신의 조절효과도 전략적 제휴에 유의한 영향을 보였다. 그러나 조직문화와 전략적 제휴의 조절효과는 수출성과에 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 본 연구는 조직문화의 조절효과를 분석한 점에서 기여도가 있다. 향후에는 개방형 정보 혁신과 외부요인의 통합분석이 필요하다.
