  • This paper presents a grid-connected dual stator-winding induction generator (DWIG) wind power system suitable for wide wind speed ranges. The parallel connection via a unidirectional diode between dc buses of both stator-winding sides is employed in this DWIG system, which can output a high dc voltage over wide wind speed ranges. Grid-connected inverters (GCIs) do not require booster converters; hence, the efficiency of wind energy utilization increases, and the hardware topology and control strategy of GCIs are simplified. In view of the particularities of the parallel topology and the adopted generator control strategy, we propose a novel excitation-capacitor optimization solution to reduce the volume and weight of the static excitation controller. When this excitation-capacitor optimization is carried out, the maximum power tracking problem is also considered. All the problems are resolved with the combined control of the DWIG and GCI. Experimental results on the platform of a 37 kW/600 V prototype show that the proposed DWIG wind power system can output a constant dc voltage over wide rotor speed ranges for grid-connected operations and that the proposed excitation optimization scheme is effective.

  • Implementation of DPI(Deep Packet Inspection) system on a general purpose multiprocessor platform is an attractive option from the implementation cost point of view, since it does not require high-cost customized hardware. Load balancing has been considered as a primary means to achieve high performance in multi processor systems. We claim, however, that in case of DPI system design simply balancing the load of each processor does not necessarily yield the highest system performance. Instead, we propose a method in which tasks are allocated to processors based on their functions. We implemented the proposed method in dual processor Linux system and compare its performance with the existing load balancing methods. Under the proposed method, one processor is dedicated to deal with interrupt handling and generic packet processing, while another processor is dedicated to DPI processing. According to experimental results, the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes by 60%, mainly because of the reduction of cache miss and spin lock occurrences.

  • As the importance of software to society has grown, more and more schools worldwide teach coding basics in the classroom. Despite the rapid spread of coding instruction in grade schools, experience in the classroom is certainly limited because there is a gap between the curriculum and the existing computing environment such as the mobile and cloud computing. We propose an approach to fill this gap by using a mobile environment and the robot on the cloud-based platform for effective teaching. In this paper, we propose an architecture called Cloudboard that enables knowledge sharing and collaboration among knowledge providers in the cloud-based robot platforms. We also describe five representative architectural patterns that are referenced and analyzed to design the Cloudboard architecture. Our early experimental results show that the Cloudboard can be effective in the development of collective robotic systems.

  • Precise control of antenna position is very critical in ArcSAR system which uses an arc-rail as a platform for the antenna movement instead of linear rail. In order to minimize the antenna positional error, we improved the motion driving system and applied a newly developed motion control S/W which utilizes the real time antenna position information from magnetic linear scale and encoder. The experimental results showed that the rotational RMS error was reduced to $0.0062^{\circ}$ from $0.0432^{\circ}$. In terms of antenna positional RMS error for the arm length of 3m, it was reduced to 0.324mm from 2.262mm. It is expected that the ArcSAR system can be used to monitor the sub-millimetric displacement of terrain and structural targets.

  • This paper presents a design method of dynamic positioning control system(DPS) for floating Platform with rotatable and retractable thrusters using H$\infty$ servo control design method. The norm band of uncertainty is captured by multiplicative perturbation between nominal model and reduced order model. A controller robust to the uncertainty is designed applying H$\infty$ synthesis. The control law satisfying robust stability and nominal performance condition is determined through the mixed sensitivity approach. The control algorithm was evaluated on the basis of computer simulation for a proposed DPS design method and experiments was carried out with an image processing method for measurement of DPS position in a water tank The results of overall experiments show that proposed control method will be good to keep at a specified position. And they are compared with the experimental results by LQG synthesis and H$\infty$ optimal control design method.

  • Studying the structural behavior of prestressed segmented girders is quite important due to the large use this type of solution in viaducts and bridges. Thus, this work presents a nonlinear three-dimensional structural analysis of an externally prestressed segmented concrete girder through the Finite Element Method (FEM), using a customized ANSYS platform, version 14.5. Aiming the minimization of the computational effort by using the lowest number of finite elements, a new viscoelastoplastic material model has been implemented for the structural concrete with the UPF customization tool of ANSYS, adding new subroutines, written in FORTRAN programming language, to the main program. This model takes into consideration the cracking of concrete in its formulation, being based on fib Model Code 2010, which uses Ottosen rupture surface as the rupture criterion. By implementing this new material model, it was possible to use the three-dimensional 20-node quadratic element SOLID186 to model the concrete. Upon validation of the model, an externally prestressed segmented box concrete girder that was originally lab tested by Aparicio et al. (2002) has been computationally simulated. In the discretization of the structure, in addition to element SOLID186 for the concrete, unidimensional element LINK180 has been used to model the prestressing tendons, as well as contact elements CONTA174 and TARGE170 to simulate the dry joints along the segmented girder. Stresses in the concrete and in the prestressing tendons are assessed, as well as joint openings and load versus deflection diagrams. A comparison between numerical and experimental data is also presented, showing a good agreement.

  • In this paper, we discuss a new architecture of future Internet for mobile-oriented environments, named Mobile-Oriented Future Internet (MOFI). The MOFI architecture is designed with Host Identifier and Local Locator (HILL) for identifier and locator separation. Based on the HILL separation architecture, we propose a Dynamic and Distributed Mapping System (DDMS) for identifier-locator mapping control. In DDMS, the mapping control function is distributed onto each access router in the domain, which is different from the centralized approach using a central anchor. For validation of the proposed MOFI-DDMS architecture, we implemented the data delivery and mapping control functions using Linux platform. From the testbed experimental results, we see that the DDMS architecture can give better performance than the existing Proxy Mobile IP (PMIP) protocol in terms of data transmission throughput.

  • Rhipe that integrates R and Hadoop environment, made it possible to process and analyze massive amounts of data using a distributed processing environment. In this paper, we implemented multiple regression analysis using Rhipe with various data sizes of actual data and simulated data. Experimental results for comparing the computing speeds of pseudo-distributed and fully-distributed modes for configuring Hadoop cluster, showed fully-distributed mode was more fast than pseudo-distributed mode and computing speeds of fully-distributed mode were faster as the number of data nodes increases. We also compared the performance of our Rhipe with stats and biglm packages available on bigmemory. The results showed that our Rhipe was more fast than other packages owing to paralleling processing with increasing the number of map tasks as the size of data increases.

  • An efficient frequent pattern algorithm is essential for mining association rules as well as many other mining tasks for convergence with its application spread over a very broad spectrum. Models for mining pattern have been proposed using a FP-tree for storing compressed information about frequent patterns. In this paper, we propose a centroid frequent pattern growth algorithm which we called "CAWFP-Growth" that enhances he FP-Growth algorithm by making the center of weights and frequencies for the itemsets. Because the conventional constraint of maximum weighted support is not necessary to maintain the downward closure property, it is more likely to reduce the search time and the information loss of the frequent patterns. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than other algorithms without scarifying the accuracy and increasing the processing time via the centroid of the items. The MapReduce framework model is provided to handle large amounts of data via a pseudo-distributed computing environment. In addition, the modeling of the proposed algorithm is required in the fully distributed mode.

  • The three dimensional-quantitative structure activity relationship (3D-QSAR) studies on chemical features of pyridine-2-amines in the external region of c-Met active site (ER chemical features of pyridine-2-amines) were conducted by docking, comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA), and topomer CoMFA methods. The CoMFA model obtained the partial least-squares (PLS) statistical results, cross-validated correlation coefficient ($q^2$) of 0.703, non cross-validated correlation coefficient ($r^2$) of 0.947 with standard error of estimate (SEE) of 0.23 and the topomer CoMFA obtained $q^2$ of 0.803, $r^2$ of 0.940, and SEE of 0.24. Further, the test set was applied to validate predictive abilities of models, where the predictive $r^2$ ($r{^2}_{pred}$) for CoMFA and topomer CoMFA models were 0.746 and 0.608, respectively. Each contribution of ER chemical features of pyridine-2-amines to the inhibitory potency showed correlation coefficients, $r^2$ of 0.670 and 0.913 for two core parts, 3-(benzo[d]oxazol-2-yl)pyridine-2-amine and 3-(1-(2,6-dichloro-3-fluorophenyl)ethoxy) pyridine-2-amine, respectively, with corresponding experimental $pIC_{50}$.
