Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) was applied to predict air flow around the hoods : circular hoods, square hoods, and push-pull hoods. A commercially available CFD software, CFD-ACE(Ver. 4.0), was tested, which is based on the finite volume method using the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Numerical results were compared with the experimental, analytical and numerical results from other studies. CFD solutions showed an excellent agreement with the previous experimental and numerical results. It is promising that CFD techniques could be applied on the variety of complex problems in the industrial ventilation engineering.

The hydrodynamic performance analysis of an axial-flow main coolant pump for the modular nuclear reactor has been carried out using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. The prediction capability of the CFD software adopted in the present study was validated in comparison with the experimental data. Predicted performance curves agree satisfactorily well with the experimental results for the main coolant pump over the normal operating range. π Ie prediction method presented herein can be used effectively as a tool for the hydrodynamic design optimization and assist the understanding of the operational characteristics of general purpose axial-flow pumps.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was applied to modeling particle dynamics in microfiltration (MF). The rejection properties of poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) were calculated. Calculated rejection (R) of PMMA was independent with the porosity of the membrane, and the R was constant in the range of volume flux between $1\times 1-^{-4}-1\times 10^{-2}$ m/s. These observations were in quantity agreement with our experimental observations. The dependence of PMMA and PS rejection on the ratio of particle diameter and pore diameter were good agreement with the experimental values, which suggesting that the validity of CFD simulation to evaluate rejection of particle in MF membranes. Change of rejection of PMMA as a function of time was molded based on the CFD result which explained well the experimental observation.
Comprehensive experimental works are carried out for the optimal design of a centrifugal blower adopted in an indoor unit of an air-conditioner. The models for consideration are typical multi-blade turbo blower and limit loaded one, respectively. The main interest lies on the fluid dynamics performance when the blower Is installed in the practical system. The methodologies are an experimental estimations with a wind tunnel for blower performance and PIV measurement for the detail flow information. A centrifugal blower with limit loaded fan shows pronounced performances in terms of the flow rate and static pressure rise and the reason is explained by the precise measurement of the flows between blades using PIV. Consequently, it is found that the blower is proper for the flows with a resistance in down stream such as a heat exchanger.

This paper presents a numerical method to solve the ship motion coupled with internal fluid flow. Physically the internal fluid motion is coupled with the ship motion. Hitherto the previous numerical results of the coupled motion predict only the general tendency with experiments. The main reason of inaccuracy is that the coupled dynamics of ship motion and internal water motion is not accurately accounted. In this study CFD technique based on VOF is employed for the accurate analysis of flooding water motion. Some cases of the 24th ITTC stability committee's benchmark.study for tanker with internal fluid are analyzed by coupling the ship motion and sloshing dynamics. The calculated ship motion is compared with the experimental result to validate the coupled scheme and is in agreement with the experimental result.
A Computational Fluid Dynamics model is presented in this study for the simulation of the complex fluid flows with free surfaces inside the Tuned Liquid Column Dampers in horizontal motion. The characteristics of the fluid model of the TLCD in horizontal motion include the free surface of the multiphase flow and the horizontal moving frame. In this study, the time depend unsteady Standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model based on Navier-Stokes equations is chosen. The volume of fluid (VOF) method and sliding mesh technique are adopted to track the free surface of water inside the vertical columns of TLCD and treat the moving boundary of the walls of TLCD in horizontal motion. Several model solution parameters comprising different time steps, mesh sizes, convergence criteria and discretization schemes are examined to establish model parametric independency results. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data in the dimensionless amplitude of the water column in four different configured groups of TLCDs with four different orifice areas. The predicted natural frequencies and the head loss coefficient of TLCDs from CFD model are also compared with the experimental data. The predicted numerical results agree well with the available experimental data.
This study focuses on the analysis of the results of computational fluid dynamics simulations of mist-chemical vapor deposition for the growth of an epitaxial wafer in power semiconductor technology using artificial intelligence techniques. The conventional approach of predicting the uniformity of the deposited layer using computational fluid dynamics and design of experimental takes considerable time. To overcome this, artificial intelligence method, which is widely used for optimization, automation, and prediction in various fields, was utilized to analyze the computational fluid dynamics simulation results. The computational fluid dynamics simulation results were analyzed using a supervised deep neural network model for regression analysis. The predicted results were evaluated quantitatively using Euclidean distance calculations. And the Bayesian optimization was used to derive the optimal condition, which results obtained through deep neural network training showed a discrepancy of approximately 4% when compared to the results obtained through computational fluid dynamics analysis. resulted in an increase of 146.2% compared to the previous computational fluid dynamics simulation results. These results are expected to have practical applications in various fields.

This paper deals with coupled electromagnetic-thermal field analysis for thermal fluid analysis of oil immersed power transformer. Electric power losses are calculated from electromagnetic field analysis and are used as input source of thermal field analysis based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD). Particularly, In order to accurately predict the temperature rise in oil immersed power transformer, the thermal problem should be coupled with the electromagnetic problem. Moreover, to reduce analysis region, the heat transfer coefficient is applied to boundary surface of the power transformer model. The coupling method results are compared with the experimental values for verifying the validity of the analysis. The predicted temperature rises show good agreements with the experimental values.
When an offshore foundation is exposed to waves and currents, local scour could develop around a pile and even lead to structural failure. Therefore, understanding and predicting the scour due to sediment transport around foundations are important in the engineering design. In this study, the flow and scour around a monopole foundation exposed to a current were investigated using a method that coupled the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM). The open source computation fluid dynamics library OpenFOAM and a sediment transport library were coupled in the OpenFOAM platform. The incipient motion of the particle was validated. The flow fields and sediment transport around the monopole were simulated. The scour depth development was simulated and compared with existing experimental data. For the upstream scour hole, the equilibrium scour depth could be reproduced qualitatively, and it was underestimated by about 23%.

One of the most important factors in sailing yacht design is accurate velocity prediction. Velocity prediction programs (VPP's) are widely used to predict velocity of sailing yachts. VPP's, which are primarily based on experimental data and experience of long years, however suffer limitations when applied in realistic conditions. Thus, in the present study, a high fidelity velocity prediction method using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was proposed. Using the developed method, velocity and attitude of a 30 feet sloop yacht, which was developed by Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean (KRISO) and termed KORDY30, were predicted in upwind sailing condition.
