  • The stratification effect was investigated with four different types of diffuser shape in a thermal storage tank. For this study, experimental facility was constructed, which was composed of experimental thermal storage tank, hot and cold water storage tanks, boiler, chiller, data acquisition system, etc.. Visualization and lab scale experimental result showed that radial curved type diffuser was the highest degree of stratification among the four diffuser shapes.

  • The structural vibration due to earthquake or outside impact causes serious problem for building safety. A dynamic model of a friction damper which can be constructed and installed easily is needed to reduce the vibration of the building. In this paper, the experimental equation of a circular friction damper is derived and designed for reduction of a earthquake vibration of a building. The developed experimental equation is defined to simply design the capacity on design of the circular friction damper based on the results of the performance test. Finally this experimental equation can be used for the design of a circular friction damper.

  • This paper experimentally investigates the effectiveness and applicability of the time delay control (TDC) algorithm, which is simple and robust to unknown system dynamics and disturbance, for an active mass damper (AMD) system to mitigate the excessive vibration of a building structure. To this end, the theoretical background including the mathematical formulation of the control system is first described; and then, a thorough experimental study using a shaking table system with a small-scale three-story building structural model is conducted. In the experimental tests, the performance of the proposed control system is examined by comparing its structural responses with those of the uncontrolled system in the free vibration and forced vibration cases. It is clearly verified from the test results that the TDC algorithm embedded AMD system can effectively reduce the structural response of the building structure.

  • This study implements a hybrid Genetic Algorithm to detect, locate, and quantify structural damage for multistory shear buildings using partial modal data. Measuring modal responses at multiple locations on a structure is both challenging and expensive in practice. The proposed method's objective function is based on the building's dynamic properties and can also be employed with partial modal information. This method includes initial residuals between the numerical and experimental model and a damage penalization term to avoid false damages. To test the proposed method, a numerical example of a ten-story shear building with noisy and partial modal information was explored. The obtained results were in agreement with the previously published research. The proposed method's performance was also verified using experimental modal data of an 8-DOF spring-mass system and a five-story shear building. The predicted results for numerical and experimental examples indicated that the proposed method is reliable in identifying the damage for multistory shear buildings.

  • The temperature of PV modules that integrated into building facades or roof increases that could reduce the electrical efficiency of the PV system. In order to incresae PV system's efficiency it is very important to remove the heat from the PV modules. For this purpose, hot air can be extracted from the space between PV modules and building envelope, and used for heating in buildings. The solar collector utilizing this thermal effect is called photovoltaic-thermal(PVT) solar collector. This paper compares the experimental performance of building-integrated PVT collectors that applied on building roof and facade. There are two different case: a roof-integrated PVT type and a facade-integrated PVT type. The experimental results show that the collected thermal energy of the roof-integrated type was 24% higher, compared to that of the facade-integrated.

  • Concrete filled steel tube (CFST) structures have recently seen wide use in China, but studies of the shear problem of CFST are inadequate. This paper presents an experimental study on the shear capacity of circular concrete filled steel tube (CCFT) specimens with and without axial compression force. Shear capacity, ductility, and damage modes of CCFTs were investigated and compared. Test results revealed the following: 1) CCFTs with a small shear span ratio may fail in shear in a ductile manner; 2) Several factors including section size, material properties, shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, and confinement index affect the shear capacity of CCFTs. Based on test results and analysis, this paper proposes a design formula for the shear capacity of CCFTs.

  • In the present study, the pressure coefficient of a cubic building model is numerically simulated. Three turbulence models of standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and LES are adopted and the results are compared with the available experimental data. From the results, it has been found that RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and LES turbulence model were shown to predict fairly well the experimental pressure coefficient. In contrast, the results of the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model showed large discrepancies in pressure coefficient on the side and top surfaces of the cubic building, which limits the applicability of the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model on wind engineering.

  • When one build a building that posses Precison production process to be sensitive to vibration and SMD to procuce a large dynamic force, how do one predict & answer vibration control problem at building structure design at first stage, That is a question. It has tried to predict dynamic response and establish answering about global or local dynamic problem in building using experimental and analysis method. One of such a try, it be proposed Semi-Empirial Method that reduce error element of input information about dynamic analysis using dynamic experimental study and measurement data in the basis of real-structure. In this paper, the dynamic response problem about RC-structure building that will be set-up SMD produce large transient dynamic force using Semi-Empirical Method.

  • Wind-induced interference effects on a building are the result of one or more adjacent buildings modifying the flow of wind around it, which may result in a significant increase or decrease in wind loads on the building. Wind loading standards and codes of practice offer little guidance to the designer for assessing the effects of interference. Experimental results on interference effects indicate that code recommendations may be significantly low (unsafe) or uneconomically conservative. The paper presents results of an extensive experimental program to study the wind flow mechanisms and to quantify the extent of wind load modifications on buildings due to interference effects. These results have been simplified and presented from the point-of-view of design and codification for the case of two buildings. Based on these results, general guidelines and limiting conditions defining wind interference are formulated and discussed.
