  • Purpose: Floppy infants or congenital hypotonia indicates decreased muscle tone in infants secondary to abnormalities of the central or the peripheral nervous system, or both. Previous literature classified its causes as those attributable to a central vs. peripheral origin; however, recent studies have introduced a newer classification describing a combined origin. We invenstigated floppy infants by applying the new etiological classification and reviewed the most common etiologies based on the age of presentation. We additionally reviewed the clinical characteristics, diagnoses, and the developmental outcomes in these infants. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical charts and recruited 116 infants diagnosed with floppy infant syndrome between January 2005 and December 2016 at Severance Children's Hospital. Among these infants, 66 with a confirmed diagnosis were reviewed for the etiological classification. Information regarding developmental outcomes was obtained via phone interviews with the infants' families. Results: Based on the new etiological classification, among 69 infants with a confirmed diagnosis, in 40 (34.5%) this syndrome was of central origin, in 19 (16.4%) of peripheral origin, and in 10 (8.6%) of combined origin. Prader-Willi syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, and spinal muscular atrophy were the most common disorders observed and combined hypotonia showed the poorest developmental outcome. Conclusion: The study states the importance of proper evaluation of etiological diagnosis and optimal intervention for developmental prognosis. The introduction of a new etiological group of combined hypotonia especially emphasizes regular monitoring and timely rehabilitative intervention in patients for the better quality of life in them as well as their caregivers.

  • The purposes of this study was to confirm the current issues of workforce policy of dental auxiliary personnel in Korea. The literature review and data collection were conducted in terms of the auxiliary personnel supply, regional distribution, legal works, working environment. Despite the rapid increase in the number of dental hygienists, the number of active dental hygienists is less than half of the total, and the dental clinics still experience the shortage. Considering the dental hygienist's work, the available dental auxiliary personnel for the dental assistance is limited. The proportion of dental hygienists is concentrated in large cities, and the ratio of dental clinics composed of only dental hygienists is high. Thus, it is essential to look for a plan to solve the disparity. The criterion for judging the legality of the works is ambiguous because a large portion of dental hygienist's work is not specified in the Medical Technicians Act. The job life is also shortened, and occupational profession and satisfaction are lowered. Thus, job burnout is accelerating. The difference between the legal works and the practiced works of dental hygienist and the conflict between the personnel might be due to the lack of utilization plans for the dental personnel at the government level. Therefore, the government should establish the roles of dental hygienist in accordance with the demands of the dental health service, institutionalize the necessary policies accordingly, and make efforts to establish plans to improve the relevant laws and utilize the manpower appropriately.

  • As the delivery service market continued to increase, the number of delivery workers also increased, but the corresponding safety education is insufficient. Therefore, this study is going to explore the importance of safety education by grasping the relationship between safety awareness, accident experience, and safety behavior of delivery workers. With the help of the delivery workers' online community site, this study conducted a survey on the status of delivery workers' safety education for a total of 114 delivery workers. As a result of the association analysis, more than half of the general agency workers said they did not receive safety training, and delivery workers who completed safety training were 2.36 times more frequent than delivery workers who did not complete safety training. In addition, through correlation analysis and simple regression analysis, safety education had a positive effect on safety perception of delivery workers, and there was a significant correlation between safety perception and safety behavior. Through these, the relationship between safety education and safety awareness, safety behavior, and the number of accident experiences was noticed, and it was concluded that safety education should be mandatory on all delivery platforms to prevent accidents.

  • Tree dieback in Geumgang pine forest has occurred in Uljin and Bonghwa since the 2010s. In order to identify status of tree dieback and prevent further damages, a monitoring project for tree dieback in Geumgang pine forest had been launched by Southern regional office of forest service in 2020. This study was conducted to understand the characteristics of tree dieback occurrence and assess the high risk areas using the occurrence data in the project. Pine tree dieback occurred frequently in areas with mountain ridges in high elevation, dry south-facing slopes, mature stands, and high temperature rise in winter. Furthermore, the result of risk assessment showed that 6.2 percent(5,294ha) of Geumgang pine forest(85,000 ha) in total study area are at high risk of tree dieback. As the pine trees in the high risk area are prone to experience the dieback due to temperature and drought-related extreme weather events, regular forest management activities are needed to reduce the drought stress of pine trees. Forest health management for the pine forest with high protection priority can be also useful strategy to counter the risk of decline. This results can be used as the basic information for the adaptive forest management to climate change.

  • This paper reports the results of descriptive research aimed at determining the effects of the administrative hospital staff members' organization-based self-esteem and work engagement on their organizational citizenship behaviors. The participants of the study were 200 administrative staff members of general hospitals, each with 200 beds or more, located in B city. Data were collected from March 15 to 30, 2017, and analyzed statistically using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. The organizational citizenship behaviors differed significantly according to whether they had an experience of turnover (t=-4.260, p=.000) and how long they had served at their present work (t=3.297, p=.039). In addition, the organizational citizenship behaviors had strong positive correlations with the organization-based self-esteem (r=.454, p=<.000) and work engagement (r=.595, p<.000). In addition, the factor that explained the organizational citizenship behaviors most significantly was work engagement, followed by organization-based self-esteem and the period of service at the present work. All three factors accounted for 41% of those behaviors. These findings suggest that the hospital should perform internal marketing or improve its welfare system to make administrative staff members raise their self-esteem based on their organization. Moreover, the hospital should form an organizational culture of its own, in which administrative staff members feel the importance of their job, enjoy it and are given autonomy in job performance, ultimately contributing to the development of hospital management.
