  • Recently, Korea government decided to introduce RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) mechanism which requires electricity providers to gradually increase the amount of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, bioenergy, and geothermal. As a consequence, it is expected that the long-term fuel mix would be changed to result in more expensive production and the increased production costs would be distributed to the rate payers via electricity tariffs. This paper presents the change in long-term fuel mix in year 2020 with the four RPS scenarios of 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%, and the methodologies for collecting the increased production costs through new tariff schedule. The studies on long-term fuel mix have been carried out with the GATE-PRO (Generation And Transmission Expansion Program) optimization package, a mixed-integer program developed by the Korea Energy Economics Institute and Hongik university. Three methodologies for distributing the production costs to the rate payers have also been demonstrated.

  • Contents industry is growing into a versatile area whose contents can be embodied through not only traditional media such as theater and TV, but also new ones such as the internet, mobile unit, PDA, DMP, etc. In addition, highly advanced computer technology and contents are harmoniously combined for image development featuring multi-channels, which produces various contents, and thus, creating synergy effects with other key industries such as IT, strengthens the domestic economy as an industry of value expansion and new high value items. To this end, this study is to present development plans that are highly productive and valued to domestic contents development companies. For this, the focus was put on the fact that concurrent engineering, which is the mechanism bringing very beneficial effects to existing analog product development processes, and the team system have significant, positive effect on the company productiveness and competitive market values among digital contents related companies, especially contents businesses.

  • A compact air-preheating type heat exchanger was developed and tested for the ultra-high temperature heat recovery applications. For the direct use of exhaust gases up to $1200^{\circ}C$, the heat exchanger adopted a ceramic core with high strength and low thermal expansion coefficient less than $1{\times}10^{-6}^{\circ}C^{-1}$. The ceramic core was fabricated by special extrusion and bonding techniques. To minimize thermal stresses in the core, spring-loaded sealing mechanism was designed and successfully installed. 1-pass air flow scheme was adopted for the compactness and cost-savings. The pressure test for the ceramic core showed no failure under 35 kPa and less than 3% leak under 7 kPa. Flue gas simulation system was developed to investigate the performance of the heat exchanger. The test results showed normal operations of the heat exchanger up to $1200^{\circ}C$ of exhaust gases and relatively high heat recovery efficiencies of 31~39% depending upon exhaust gas temperatures..

  • This is a basic experimental research tried to use electric furnace slag as a fine aggregate for concrete. Chemical component and physical properties of electric furnace slag were studied, and expansion mechanism and aging method for stabalization of electric furnace slag were discussed. Concrete properties electric furnace slag as a fine aggregate were also studied in this paper.

  • Capacity payment mechanism has been adopted as the incentive scheme to achieve resource adequacy in Korean electricity market, however, the level of capacity price has been controversial due to its insufficient extent to incur financial loss for certain generators. Therefore, a new method is proposed to estimate the proper level of capacity price incorporating profitability of market participants and resource adequacy in this paper. The proposed method is successfully applied to test system based on Korean power system.

  • A method to predict the creep behavior of fiber-reinforced ceramic composites at high temperatures was suggested based on finite element modeling using constituent creep equations of fiber and matrix and showed good agreement with the experimental results. The effects of matrix creep behavior, fiber volume fraction, and residual stresses on the composite creep behavior were also investigated. The results showed that the primary behavior of composites was greatly affected by that of matrix but post-primary behavior was governed by fiber creep characteristics. The increase of fiber volume fraction from 15 vol% to 30 vol% caused the 50% and 40% decrease of steady-state creep rates and total creep strains at $1200^{\circ}C$, 180MPa, respectively. Feasible compressive residual stresses in the matrix caused by different thermal expansion coefficients between the fiber and the matrix could significantly reduce total creep strains of the composite. The creep deformation mechanism in the fiber-reinforced ceramic composites could be explained by the stress transfer and redistribution in the fiber and matrix due to different creep characteristics of its constituents.

  • Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by abnormal polyglutamine (polyQ) expansion in the huntingtin protein (Htt). There is no cure for HD so far. Although exact molecular mechanism of HD pathogenesis is still elusive, fibril formation of the expanded Htt is linked to the toxicity. In this study, we prepared the expanded Htt containing 46 glutamines, and induced the fibrillation by proteolytic cleavage. Fibrillation of the pathogenic Htt has been monitored by time course NMR experiment. The NMR-based monitoring method could be widely used to screen the candidates to inhibit the fibrillation of the pathogenic Htt.

  • Recently the exoskeletal power assistive equipment which is a kind of wearable robot has been widely developed to help the human body motion. For the elderly people and patients, however, some limits exist due to the weight and volume of the equipments. As a feasible solution, a tendon-driven exoskeletal power assistive device fur the lower body, and caster walker are proposed in this research. Since the caster walker carries the heavy items, the weight and volume of the wearable exoskeleton are minimized. The key control is used to generate the joint torque required to assist motions such as sitting, standing and walking. Experiments were performed for several motions and the EMG sensors were used to measure the magnitude of assistance. When the motion of sitting down and standing up was compared with and without wearing the proposed device, the $25\%$ assistance was acquired.

  • Virus protection infrastructure management is network infrastructure management, traffic route management, virus protection zone expansion, and virus protection management for gateway area. This research paper provides a diagnosis of characteristics and weaknesses of the structure of existing virus protection infrastructure, and recommends an improved multi-level virus protection infrastructure as a measure for correcting these weaknesses. Unproved virus protection infrastructure fitters unnecessary mail at the gateway stage to reduce the toad on server. As a result, number of transmission accumulation decreases due to the reduction in the CPU load on the Virus wall and increase in virus treatment rate.
