Classification ofWarm Temperate Vegetations and GIS-based Forest Management System

  • Aim of this research was to classify forest types at Wando in Jeonnam Province and develop warm temperate forest management system with application of Remote Sensing and GIS. Another emphasis was given to the analysis of satellite images to compare forest type changes over 10 year periods from 2009 to 2019. We have accomplished this study by using ArcGIS Pro and ENVI. For this research, Landsat satellite images were obtained by means of terrestrial, airborne and satellite imagery. Based on the field survey data, all land uses and forest types were divided into 5 forest classes; Evergreen broad-leaved forest, Evergreen Coniferous forest, Deciduous broad-leaved forest, Mixed fores, and others. Supervised classification was carried out with a random forest classifier based on manually collected training polygons in ROI. Accuracy assessment of the different forest types and land-cover classifications was calculated based on the reference polygons. Comparison of forest changes over 10 year periods resulted in different vegetation biomass volumes, producing the loss of deciduous forests in 2019 probably due to the expansion of residential areas and rapid deforestation.

In vitro culture of chicken embryonic stem cell-like cells

  • Chicken embryonic stem (ES) cells have great potential and provide a powerful tool to investigate embryonic development and to manipulate genetic modification in a genome. However, very limited studies are available on the functional characterization and robust expansion of chicken ES cells compared to other species. Here, we have developed a method to generate chicken embryonic stem cell-like cells under pluripotent culture conditions. The chicken embryonic stem cell-like cells were cultivated long-term over several passages of culture without loss of pluripotency in vitro and had the specific expression of key stem cell markers. Furthermore, they showed severe changes in morphology and a significant reduction in pluripotent genes after siRNA-mediated NANOG knockdown. Collectively, these results demonstrate the efficient generation of chicken embryonic stem cell-like cells from EGK stage X blastoderm-derived singularized cells and will facilitate their potential use for various purposes, such as biobanking genetic materials and understanding stemness in the fields of animal biotechnology.

A rare and unique experience of a blunt intrathoracic traumatic injury of the trachea and its management in South Africa: a case report

  • Blunt intrathoracic tracheal injuries are rare, even among blunt chest trauma patients. An early diagnosis based on a high index of suspicion allows for timely surgical management of potentially fatal airway trauma, thereby improving overall outcomes. Diagnosing these injuries can be difficult due to their nonspecific clinical features and the occasional difficulty in radiologic diagnosis. If a patient exhibits respiratory compromise with difficult ventilation and poor lung expansion, despite the insertion and management of an intercostal drain following high-energy blunt trauma, there should be a heightened suspicion of potential airway trauma. The aim of primary repair is to restore airway integrity and to minimize the loss of pulmonary parenchyma function. This case report discusses the rare clinical presentation of a patient with blunt trauma to the intrathoracic airway, the surgical management thereof, and his overall outcome. Although blunt traumatic injuries of the trachea are extremely rare and often fatal, early surgical intervention can potentially reduce the risk of mortality.

안티푸라민-에스® 로션의 레올로지 특성 연구 (Rheological Properties of Antiphlamine-S® Lotion)

  • Using a strain-controlled rheometer [Advanced Rheometric Expansion System (ARES)], the steady shear flow properties and the dynamic viscoelastic properties of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion have been measured at $20^{\circ}C$ (storage temperature) and $37^{\circ}C$ (body temperature). In this article, the temperature dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was firstly reported from the experimental data obtained from a temperature-sweep test. The steady shear flow behavior was secondly reported and then the effect of shear rate on this behavior was discussed in detail. In addition, several inelastic-viscoplastic flow models including a yield stress parameter were employed to make a quantitative evaluation of the steady shear flow behavior, and then the applicability of these models was examined by calculating the various material parameters. The angular frequency dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was nextly explained and quantitatively predicted using a fractional derivative model. Finally, the strain amplitude dependence of the dynamic viscoelastic behavior was discussed in full to elucidate a nonlinear rheological behavior in large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields. Main findings obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : (1) The linear viscoelastic behavior is almostly independent of temperature over a temperature range of $15{\sim}40^{circ}C$. (2) The steady shear viscosity is sharply decreased as an increase in shear rate, demonstrating a pronounced Non-Newtonian shear-thinning flow behavior. (3) The shear stress tends to approach a limiting constant value as a decrease in shear rate, exhibiting an existence of a yield stress. (4) The Herschel-Bulkley, Mizrahi-Berk and Heinz-Casson models are all applicable and have an equivalent validity to quantitatively describe the steady shear flow behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion whereas both the Bingham and Casson models do not give a good applicability. (5) In small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus is always greater than the loss modulus over an entire range of angular frequencies tested and both moduli show a slight dependence on angular frequency. This means that the linear viscoelastic behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion is dominated by an elastic nature rather than a viscous feature and that a gel-like structure is present in this system. (6) In large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus shows a nonlinear strain-thinning behavior at strain amplitude range larger than 10 % while the loss modulus exhibits a weak strain-overshoot behavior up to a strain amplitude of 50 % beyond which followed by a decrease in loss modulus with an increase in strain amplitude. (7) At sufficiently large strain amplitude range (${\gamma}_0$>100 %), the loss modulus is found to be greater than the storage modulus, indicating that a viscous property becomes superior to an elastic character in large shear deformations.

범용토양유실공식(RUSLE) 기법을 활용한 금호강 수변지역의 토양유실위험도 비교 분석 (Utilizing the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) Technique Comparative Analysis of Soil Erosion Risk in the Geumhogang Riparian Area)

  • 본 연구는 하천 유역의 정비사업 전 후의 토양유실위험도를 비교하기 위하여 GIS 및 디지타이징 자료를 토대로 수정범용토양유실공식(RUSLE)을 활용하여 분석하였다. 토양유실량을 파악하기 위하여 토지피복지도, 지형도, 토양도, 강수량 등의 자료들을 이용하였으며, 금호강 유역의 수변지역을 범위로 디지타이징한 후, 유역을 행정구역 단위로 분할하여 분석하였다. 하천 정비 전('8)과 후('16)로 토양유실이 전혀 일어나지 않는 지역(클래스 1)에서 심하게 일어나는 지역(클래스 5) 등 총 5단계로 구분하여 분석한 결과, 사업('16) 후 전체지역에 대하여 1, 5 클래스는 감소, 2~4 클래스는 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 대구와 영천은 5 클래스의 면적이 감소하였고, 경산은 5 클래스의 지역이 존재하지 않았다. 이러한 원인은 공원조성과 인공시설물 확대, 농경지 감소 등으로 인하여 5 클래스의 지역이 감소한 것으로 판단되며, 수변지역의 준설 및 공원조성을 위한 하안선 단순화는 하천 유량 및 유속에 의한 토양유실량 증가가 일어난 것으로 추정된다.

Oxygen Permeation Properties and Phase Stability of Co-Free $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$ Oxygen Membrane

  • A perovskite-type ($La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$) dense ceramic membrane was prepared by polymerized complex method, using citric acid as a chelating agent and ethylene glycol as an organic stabilizer. Effect of Ti addition on lanthanum-strontium ferrite mixed conductor was investigated by evaluating the thermal expansion coefficient, the oxygen flux, the electrical conductivity, and the phase stability. The thermal expansion coefficient in air was $21.19\;{\times}\;10^{-6}/K$ at 473 to 1,223 K. At the oxygen partial pressure of 0.21 atm ($20%\;O_2$), the electrical conductivity increased with temperature and then decreased after 973 K. The decrement in electrical conductivity at high temperatures was explained by a loss of the lattice oxygen. The oxygen flux increased with temperature and was $0.17\;mL/cm^2{\cdot}min$ at 1,223 K. From the temperature-dependent oxygen flux data, the activation energy of oxygen ion conduction was calculated and was 80.5 kJ/mol at 1,073 to 1,223 K. Also, the Ti-added lanthanum-strontium ferrite mixed conductor was structurally and chemically stable after 450 hours long-term test at 1,173 K.

수평형 타공판의 소파특성 (Wave Absorbing Characteristics of a Horizontal Submerged Punching Plate)

  • 본 논문에서는 수면 밑에 잠긴 수평형 타공판의 소파특성을 이론계산과 모형실험을 통하여 살펴보았다. 타공판은 일정한 크기의 구멍이 균일하게 배열된 형태로, 파가 타공판 위를 통과하면서 타공판의 구멍을 통하여 강한 제트 흐름이 형성되면서 파 에너지가 소멸되는 특징을 가지고 있다. 이론해석 방법으로 선형파 이론에 근거한 고유함수전개법을 사용하였다. 타공판을 통과하는 유체의 법선방향속도는 타공판 전후의 압력차에 선형적으로 비례한다는 Darcy의 법칙을 가정하였다. 이때 공극율 계수라 불리는 비례상수는 타공판의 공극율과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 공극율 계수와 공극율사이의 함수 관계식을 얻기 위하여 수직벽 앞에 놓여진 6개의 서로 다른 공극율을 가진 타공판에 대하여 규칙파중에서 반사율을계측하였다. 해석결과와 모형실험결과를 비교하여 공극율 계수와 타공판의 공극율사이에는선형관계(b=57.63P-0.9717)가 있음을 밝혔다. 또한 최대 소파성능을 발휘하는 타공판의 공극율은 0.1근방이며, 잠긴깊이의 범위는 $d/h\\leq0.2$임을 확인하였다.

  • 저자들은 1예의 전두부 연조직 결손과 2예의 경부와 안면에 형성된 다발성의 반혼구축 환자에서 조직확장술올 이용하여 양호한 두경부의 연조직 재건을 얻을 수 있었다. 다양한 연조직의 결손이나 변형에서 적절한 증례를 선택하여 올바르게 적용할 경우 조직 확장술은 유용한 재건방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

HPV 16 E6/E7 Transgenic Mice have Hyperkeratosis and Elevated ROS Related Enzyme Activities

  • Human papillomavirus type 16(HPV16) has been known to the major factor for the development of uterine cervical carcinomas. We have extended these studies to investigate the in vivo activities of HPV-16 E6/E7 when expressed in squamous epithelia of transgenic mice. Grossly, hK14HPV16E6/E7 transgenic mice had multiple phenotypes, including wrinkled skin that was apparent prior to the appearance of hair on neonates, thickened ears, and loss of hair in adults. In the transgenic mice, the wrinkled skin phenotype on the body and legs died at the age of 3∼4 weeks. Histological analysis of demonstrated that E6/E7 causes epidermal hyperplasia in multiple transgenic lineages with high penetrance. This epithelial hyperplasia was characterized by an expansion of the proliferating compartment and an expansion of the keratinocyte and was associated with hyperkeratosis. These transgenic mice expressed E6/E7 transgene mainly in skin, heart, pancreas and kidney. Hyperplasia was found at the skin. The enzyme activities of GR, GPx and CuZnSOD were measured from the transgene cause keratinocyte at the skin. The specific enzyme activities were significantly higher in transgenic mice skin compared to the normal mice skin. Thus these transgenic mice may be useful for the develpment of antioxidant enzymes or other therapies for HPV-associated hyperkeratosis.

임의 대형구조 전자기 해석을 위한 CBFM의 빠른 원거리 상호 작용 계산 알고리즘 (A Fast Computation Method of Far Field Interactions in CBFM for Electromagnetic Analysis of Large Structures)

  • 본 논문에서는 임의의 대형구조의 전자기 특성을 효율적으로 해석하기 위해 대표적인 전자기 수치해석 기법의 하나인 모멘트법 기반 직접풀이법 중 CBFM의 원거리 상호작용 계산의 가속화 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 대형구조의 전자기 특성해석을 위해서는 계산시간의 단축이 필수적이며, CBFM 해석법에서 원거리 블록 간의 상호작용을 다중극전개방법을 사용한 근사화를 통해 복잡도를 크게 감소시킨 수식을 도출하였다. 본 논문에서 제안된 새로운 알고리즘을 도체구와 전투기의 레이다 단면적 계산에 적용하여 기존의 CBFM과 비교하여 정확도 손실 없이 계산시간이 각각 34 %, 74 % 단축되어 대형구조 문제해석에 효율적이라는 것을 확인하였다.
