Analysis of Thermal Expansion of Latex-Modified Concrete (라텍스개질 콘크리트의 열팽창 특성 분석)

  • The properties of mechanics and durability of LMC have been performed actively. However, little studies on analysis and properties of thermal expansion has been on the temperature variation. Especially, the low of bonding strength and tensile cracking are caused by difference of thermal expansion between LMC and the substrate concrete. Therefore, this study focused on effect of thermal expansion behavior and properties of LMC according to temperature variation. To identify the property of thermal expansion of LMC, tests of modulus of thermal expansion were carried out at 28 days after casting specimen, subjected to temperature variation between $10^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. The results of this study showed the modulus of elastic of LMC was similar to that of ordinary portland concrete(OPC). It means that stresses caused by difference of modulus of elastic did not occur on interface between LMC and existing concrete. The modulus of thermal expansion of LMC had a little smaller than that of OPC. The modulus of thermal expansion of polymer modified concrete is generally larger than OPC, but the result of this test is disagree with the fact, which may be due to the humidity evaporation difference and aggregate properties.

  • This study is intended to identify how quick disconnect coupling which connects with refrigerant piping of air-conditioner using R-22 refrigerant has effect on characteristics of flux. in the case where the air-conditioner installs utilizes quick disconnect coupling, COP has an effect on the quantity of cooling load because of changing flow rate and physical properties of refrigerant which flow into an entrance of expansion valve from coupling. Variation of flow rate can be regulated by changing expansion-contraction angle; $\alpha$ of an entrance and an exit of coupling.   • In ultra-high-strength concrete, chemical shrinkage is larger than drying shrinkage due to using a large amount of cement and admixtures, and this is a factor deteriorating the quality of structures. Thus, we need a new technology for minimizing the shrinkage strain of ultra-high-strength concrete. So, this study have prepared super-high-strength concrete with specified mixing design strength of over 100MPa and have evaluated a method of reducing chemical shrinkage by using expander and shrinkage-reducing agent. According to the results of this study, with regard to the change in length by chemical shrinkage, an expansion effect was observed until the age of seven days. The expansion effect was higher than previous research that used only expander or shrinkage reducing agent. In addition, ultra-high-strength concrete showed a shrinkage rate that slowed down with time, and the effect of the addition of expander material on compressive strength was insignificant. That is shown that required more database to be accumulated through experimental research for the shrinkage strain of members.

  • High-strength low-alloy steel is one of the widely used materials in onshore and offshore plant engineering. We investigated the alloying effect of solute atoms in α-Fe based alloy using ab initio calculations. Empirical equations were used to establish the effect of alloying on the Vicker's hardness, screw energy coefficient, and edge dislocation energy coefficient of the steel. Screw and edge energy coefficients were improved by the addition of V and Cr solute atoms. In addition, the addition of trace quantities of V, Cr, and Mn enhanced abrasion resistance. Solute atoms and contents with excellent mechanical properties were selected and their thermal conductivity and thermal expansion behavior were investigated. The addition of Cr atom is expected to form alloys with low thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient. This study provides a better understanding of the state-of-the-art research in low-alloy steel and can be used to guide researchers to explore and develop α-Fe based alloys with improved properties, that can be fabricated in smart and cost-effective manners.

A Study on the Characteristics of the Treatment with Bed Expansion and the Biomass Attachment in the Start-up of the AFBR (혐기성 유동층 반응기에서 층팽창에 따른 처리특성 및 미생물 부착특성)

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the effect of the bed expansion and the characteristics of attached biomass in the start-up in the anaerobic fluidized bed reactor(AFBR). The fluidized bed reactor was operated with bacteria supported on the bed of granular activated carbon(GAC). The reactor was operated at 35$\circ$C, 5 kg $COD/m^3\cdot day$ at bed expansion varying from 0 to 100% with soluble glucose wastewater(5,000 mg/l). When the effluent reached a steady state at 100% of bed expansion, maximum COD removal efficiency of 87.3% and 0.031 $m^3CH_4/kg COD_{removed}$ were obtained. At higher bed expansion, COD removal efficiency, methane production rate and biogas production rate increased. Especially, at 50% of bed expansion, the efficiency of the treatment increasedg rapidly in the AFBR. The biomass colonized in the pits and crevices of the GAC particle and no complete biofilm was established in the bioreactor during the experiment.

  • The purpose of this study is comparing cold expansion method with interference fit. Cold expansion method and interference fit of fastener hole is using in the aerospace industry. These treatment lead to an improvement of fatigue life to the compressive residual stresses developed on the hole surface. But Research is nothing to about difference effect of between cold expansion method and interference fit. So, this paper, it is shown that Comparing cold expansion method with interference fit using the finite element method. It is further shown that residual stress distribution according to plate thickness and clamping force.

Effect of a Turbo-Expander for Regeneration in the Expansion Process (팽창과정에서의 터보엑스펜더 영향에 관한 연구)

  • A turbo-expander is developed for the regeneration in the expansion process. The turbo-expander operates in the partial admission and supersonic flow, and an axial-type single stage turbine is applied to the turbo-expander. Its outer diameter is 82mm and the operating gas is R134a. A 15kW reciprocating compressor is applied in this experiment and the turbo-expander is installed in the expansion process instead of the commonly using expansion valve. Two supersonic nozzles are applied for the expansion process. The high speed of R 134a after passing the supersonic nozzles gives the impulse force to the turbo-expander and some powers are generated on this process. A generator is installed at the end of the turbo-expander shaft. The generating output power from the turbo-expander is controlled by the power controller. Pressures and temperatures are measured on the lines for the performance investigation. More than 600W/(kg/sec) are generated in this experiment.

  • The expansion joints are installed for connecting the bridge segments. The ambient noise expansion joints are required in domestic market because of regulation on the noise neighboring traffic roads established by ministry of environment. Therefore, field tests for measuring environment noise depending on the types of the expansion joints are carried out in order to examine the effect of expansion joints into the environments. Related geometrical analysis has been performed.

ASR Resistance of Ternary Blended Binder Adding Ultra Fine Mineral Admixture (고분말도 광물성 혼화재를 혼입한 삼성분계 결합재의 ASR 저항성 평가)

  • PURPOSES : This study is to evaluate ASR(alkali silica reactivity) resistance of ternary blended binder adding ultra fine mineral admixture. METHODS : This study analyzes ASR expansion using ASTM C 1260 and 1567. RESULTS : This study showed that the fineness of mineral admixture had no effect on ASR expansion. The expansion of ternary blended binder(UFFA 20%+FGGBS 10%) were below 0.1%, and this binder met the ASR standard. Also when adding the CSA expansion agent, ASR expansion slightly decreased. The expansion of latex modified mixture increased by 80% comparing plain mixture. CONCLUSIONS : Ternary blended binder met the ASR standard, and this binder is available in concrete bridge deck overlay.
