The auther measured exothermic tempreature of the 5 kinds of direct resins during polymerization. Direct resins were mixed into the rubber cup(550-600㎣ in volume) with grass rod at room temperature (23.6℃) for 30 seconds and thermometer was placed approximately at the geometric center of the resin mass in the rubber cup. Polymer-monomer ratio was determined by instruction of the packages. The results were as follows.
1) The heat generated during polymerization was under 47.3℃.
2) The time at which the highest temperature is reached during polymerization was within 20.5 minutes.
3) Slow curing resins produced lower heat than quick curing resins and quick curing resins presented higher temperature than slow curing resins.
4) The highest temperature was sustained momentarily.
Most of the chemical reactions performed in the chemical industry are exothermic, meaning that thermal energy is released during the reaction. It is also important to understand the thermal hazards such as thermal stabilities and runaway reactions, which are governed by thermodynamics and reaction kinetics of the mixed materials. The paper was described the evaluation of thermal behavior caused by an exothermic batch process in manufacture of the vinyl acetate resin. The aim of the study was to evaluate the thermal stabilities of raw materials with operating conditions such as a reaction inhibitor, heating rate, reaction atmosphere and the mount of methanol charged in the vinyl acetate polymerization process. The experiments were performed in the differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), C 80 calorimeter, and thermal screening unit($TS^u$). It was suggested that we should provide the thermal characteristics for raw materials to present safe precautions with operating conditions in the vinyl acetate polymerization process.
Thermal analysis, heating test on gram scale and simulation of exothermic behavior based on kinetic analysis has been conducted in order to evaluate thermal hazards of self-polymerization of MDI. The exothermic reactions of MDI are expected to be the polymerization which forms carbodiimide and carbon dioxide, dimerization and trimerization. When MDI is kept in adiabatic condition during 1 week (10080 hours), the simulated result shows runaway reaction can occur in the case that initial temperature was more than $130^{\circ}C$. The relationship between the initial temperature (T, $^{\circ}C$) and TMR is given in a following equation. TMR=$4.493{\times}10^{-7}$ exp ($9.532{\times}10^3$/(T+273.15)) We propose that the relationship gives important criteria of handling temperature of MDl to prevent a runaway reaction.
The risk assessment of thermal behavior and runaway reaction cased by an exothermic batch process in manufacture of the vinyl acetate resin are described in the present paper. The aim of the study was to evaluate the risk of runaway reaction with operating parameters such as a reaction inhibitor, reaction temperature and a mount of methanol charged in the vinyl acetate polymerization process. The experiments were performed by a sort of calorimetry with the Multimax reactor system as a screening tool to investigate runaway reaction. From the experimental results, it was found that we could occur the auto acceleration for reaction of raw materials with operating parameters over $65^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature in the vinyl acetate polymerization process.

[ $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ ] sol was prepared using sol-gel method. Sol changed to gel with hydrolysis and polymerization. DTA properties of gel powder had endothermic reaction due to evaporation of propanol about $80^{\circ}C$, had exothermic reaction due to combustion of propanol about $230^{\circ}C$ and had exothermic reaction due to combustion of alkyl group about $350^{\circ}C$. Crystalline properties of gel powder retained amorphous phase at $50^{\circ}C$, retained anatase phase from $400^{\circ}C\;to\;600^{\circ}C$ and had all rutile phase over $700^{\circ}C$ at 0.01mole $V_2O_5$ additive. The capacitance of thin films increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and thin films had best properties at $700^{\circ}C$. The capacitance of thin films increased a lot with decreasing measurement frequency.
Statement of the problem: The cold-cured resins used in fabrication of the provisional crown and fixed partial dentures could cause pulpal damage by heat generated during exothermic polymerization reactions. Purpose: In this in vitro study investigates the how external conditions such as material of the matrix, thickness of the matrix and thickness of dentin affect the temperature of the tooth during polymerization reaction of the cold-cured resins. Material and methods : To measure the temperature of the resin, metal die was maintained to the temperature of $37^{\circ}C$ with water bath to simulate the temperature of thetooth and thermocouple was placed in the center of the metal die. Acrylic pipe was cut in height of 1, 2, 3, 6, 10 mm and placed on the metal die and mixed resin was pored in the acrylic pipe As the resin polymerized temperature was recorded with the thermometer. Temperature of the resin using matrix was recorded by using the individual tray relieved in different thickness 2, 5, 7, 10 mm. The material of the matrix was irreversible hydrocolloid impression material, vinyl polysilloxane impression material and vacuum-formed template Temperature rise of the resin using different thickness of tooth section was record ed by placing tooth section on the metal die and placing resin over the tooth section. Results : Conclusion : 1. Temperature rise increased as the thickness of the resin increased but there was no significant differences over 3 mm thickness of the resin. 2. The lowest temperature rise was showed in irreversible hydrocolloid impression material and vinyl polysilloxane impression material vacuum-formed template as in orders. 3, Temperature rise of the resin decreased regardless of the thickness of the matrix when vinyl polysilloxane impression material was used as the matrix. 4 When irreversible hydrocolloid impression material was used as matrix, the temperature rise of the resin decreased as the thickness of the matrix increased and there was no temperature rise when thickness of the matrix reached 10 mm, 5. The temperature rise of the resin did not decreased when Polypropylene vacuum-formed template was used as the matrix. 6, The temperature of the resin increased as the thickness of the dentin decreased.

PURPOSE. Temperature increase of $5.5^{\circ}C$ can cause damage or necrosis of the pulp. Increasing temperature can be caused not only by mechanical factors, e.g. grinding, but also by exothermic polymerization reactions of resin materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate influences of the form material on the intrapulpal temperature during the polymerization of different self-curing resin materials for temporary restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 30 provisonal bridges were made of 5 resin materials: Prevision Temp (Pre), Protemp 4 (Pro), Luxatemp Star (Lux), Structure 3 (Str) and an experimental material (Exp). Moulds made of alginate (A) and of silicone (S) and vacuum formed moulds (V) were used to build 10 bridges each on a special experimental setup. The intrapulpal temperatures of three abutment teeth (a canine, a premolar, and a molar,) were measured during the polymerization every second under isothermal conditions. Comparisons of the maximum temperature ($T_{Max}$) and the time until the maximum temperature ($t_{TMax}$) were performed using ANOVA and Tukey Test. RESULTS. Using alginate as the mould material resulted in a cooling effect for every resin material. Using the vacuum formed mould, $T_{Max}$ increased significantly compared to alginate (P<.001) and silicone (P<.001). In groups Lux, Pro, and Pre, $t_{TMax}$ increased when the vacuum formed moulds were used. In groups Exp and Str, there was no influence of the mould material on $t_{TMax}$. CONCLUSION. All of the mould materials are suitable for clinical use if the intraoral application time does not exceed the manufacturer's instructions for the resin materials.
Condensation type aromatic polyimides were synthesized in DMF solvent by two step low temperature solution polymerization. By employing monomers as p-phenylene 3diamine and 3 kinds of dianhydrides such as pyromellitic dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride and trimellitic anhydride chloride, poly(amic acid) precursors were sythesized. These reactions were exothermic and very fast. When synthesized poly(amic acid)s were dissolved in DMF solvent and stood long time, the polymers were hydrolyzed and their degradation reactions were accelerated as the solution concentrations were dilute. Also, when water is added there-to the degradation rates were accelerated 8faster. In addition, in a very dilute solution state, the reduction viscosity is greatly increased to show properties of conventional polyelectrolytes. This also showed properties sensitive to the concentration change as carboxyl groups per unit segment are increased.
Polymerization of light-activated restorations results in temperature increase caused by both the exothermic reaction process and the energy absorbed during irradiation. Within composite resin, temperature increases up to 2$0^{\circ}C$ or more during polymerization. But, insulation of hard tissue of tooth lowers this temperature increase in pulp. However, many clinicians are concerned about intrapulpal temperature injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate temperature changes in the pulp according to various restorative materials and bases during curing procedure. Caries and restoration-free mandibular molars extracted within three months were prepared Class I cavity of 3$\times$6mm with high speed handpiece fissure bur. 1mm depth of dentin was evaluated with micrometer in mesial and distal pulp horns. Pulp chambers were filled with 37.0$\pm$0.1$^{\circ}C$ water to CEJ. Chromium-alumina thermocouple was placed in pulp horn below restorative materials for evaluating of temperature changes. This thermocouple was connected to temperature-recording device(Multiplication analyzer MX, 6.000, JAPAN). Temperature changes was evaluated from initial 37.$0^{\circ}C$ after temperature changes to 37.$0^{\circ}C$. Tip of curing unit was placed in the center of prepared cavity separated 1mm from restorative materials. Curing time was 40s. The restorative materials were used with Z 100, Fuji II LC, Compoglass flow and bases were used with Vitrebond, Dycal. Resrorative materials were placed in 2mm. The depth of bases were formed in 1mm and in this upper portion, resin of 2mm depth was placed. This procedure was performed 10 times. The results were as follows. 1. All the groups showed that the temperature in pulp increased as curing time increased 2. The temperature increase of glass ionomer was significantly higher than that of Resin and Compomer during curing procedure (P<0.05). 3. The temperature increase in glass ionomer base was significantly higher than that of Calcium hydroxide base during Resin curing procedure (P<0.05).
When cavity floor is near the pulp, polymerization of light-activated restorations results in temperature increase. This temperature increase cause by both the exothermic reaction process and the energy absorbed during irradiation. Therefore instating base is required. Most frequently used insulating base is glass ionmer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate intrapulpal temperature changes of glass ionomer according to various curing intensity and curing time. Caries and restoration-free mandibular molars extracted within three months were prepared Class I cavity of 3$\times$6mm with high speed handpiece. 1mm depth of dentin was evaluated with micrometer in mesial and distal pulp horns. Pulp chambers were filled with 37.0$\pm$0.1$^{\circ}C$ water to CEJ. Chromium-alumina thermocouple was placed in pulp horn for evaluating of temperature changes. glass ionomer material was placed in 2mm. total curing time was 40s: continuous 40s, intermittent 20s, intermittent 10s. Glass ionomer material was cured with 300mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 550mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$ light curing unit. The results were as follows : 1. Temperature in pulp increased as curing unit power is increased. 2. Temperature in pulp more increased continuous emission than intermittent emission.
