  • The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between one's social-self image and Online Avatar image. Influence of these virtual images on one's attitude toward real world and commitment to the virtual world was examined. In addition, the gender difference was examined. A structural equation model with social self image as exogenous variable and influence of Avatar as endogenous variable was designed. Real and ideal Avatar images were the mediating variable in the model. Survey questionnaire was developed and data from 425 respondents were analyzed. Results indicated that the conceptual model was a good fit to the data. Respondents who perceived their social self-images importantly were likely to have real images of Avatars. Ideal image and real image had significant on commitment to virtual world and attitudes toward the real world. For male respondents, social self image had stronger influence on real image of Avatar and ideal image had stronger influence on commitment to virtual world than female respondents.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of online game properties, social interaction, and player satisfaction on intention to online games in Chinese gamers. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is an empirical analysis assuming that properties of online games, social interaction and satisfaction will induce Chinese gamers' intention to play online games. We set the relationship between the six variables as follows. First, the properties of online games, exogenous variables, were identified by three factors: entertainment, security, participation and challenge. Second, we had input social interaction among gamers as another exogenous variables. Third, the gamer's satisfaction of online games was added to the research model as a mediating variable between exogenous variables and endogenous variables. Finally, gamer's intention to play influenced by satisfaction and social interaction was used as final endogenous variable. The data used for the empirical analysis were collected through questionnaires for Chinese under age 35 who enjoy the online games. The data used in the research were finally extracted from 195 questionnaires. The collected data were tested through the analysis of the measurement model (Step 1) and the analysis of the structural model (Step 2). The covariance structure equation model (SEM) was used for the analysis. The measurement model and structural model were evaluated by the maximum likelihood method. Results - The results of the empirical analysis are as follows. The satisfaction of online games were entertainment and security had a significant effect to satisfaction; but participation and challenge and social interaction had no significant effect on satisfaction. The social interaction among gamers and the satisfaction with online games have a significant influence on the intention to play online games. As a result, the attributes of the game were affecting the intention to play the game after satisfaction. Social interaction influenced the intention to play online games rather than satisfaction itself. Conclusions - This study provide some practical implications for the new companies who want to enter the online game industry and seek to competitiveness in China, and provide theoretical implications on the role of interaction among gamers in the study of online games.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a new industrial land demand prediction method that can consider external economic factors. The analysis model used ARIMA-X, which can consider exogenous variables. Exogenous variables are composed of macroeconomic variable, Business Survey Index, and Composite Economic Index variables to reflect the economic and industrial structure. And, among the exogenous variables, only variables that precede the supply of industrial land are used for prediction. Variables with precedence in the supply of industrial land were found to be import, private and government consumption expenditure, total capital formation, economic sentiment index, producer's shipment index, machinery for domestic demand and composite leading index. As a result of estimating the ARIMA-X model using these variables, the ARIMA-X(1,1,0) model including only the import was found to be statistically significant. The industrial land demand forecast predicted the industrial land from 2021 to 2030 by reflecting the scenario of change in import. As a result, the future demand for industrial land was predicted to increase by 1.91% annually to 1,030.79 km2. As a result of comparing these results with the existing exponential smoothing method, the results of this study were found to be more suitable than the existing models. It is expected to b available as a new industrial land forecasting model.

  • Magnaporthe grisea, the casual agent of rice blast, requires formation of an appressorium, a dome-shaped and well melanized infection structure, to penetrate its host. Environmental cues that induce appressorium formation include hydrophobicity and hardness of contact surface and chemicals from its host. Artificial surfaces are widely used to induce appressorium formation, but frequencies of appressorium induction are not always consistent. To understand variable induction of appressorium formation in M. grisea, several factors were tested on GelBond. High levels of appressorium formation were induced over a wide range of temperature (20~3$0^{\circ}C$) and pH (4~7). spore age up to 3-week-old did not significantly affect appressorium formation, but only a few apressoria on GelBond. However, adenosine specifically inhibited appressorium formation. Adenosine inhibition of appressorium formation was restored by exogenous addition of cAMP. Germ tube tips of M. grisea maintained the ability to differentiate appressoria by chemical inducers on GelBond at least up to 16 h after conidia germination. These results suggest that environmental factors have little effect on the variable induction of appressorium formation on the artificial surface in M. grisea.

  • In the smart grid, it will be possible to communicate with the consumers for the purposes of monitoring and controlling their power consumption without disturbing their business or comfort. This will bring easier administration capabilities for the utilities. On the other hand, consumers will require more advanced home automation tools which can be implemented by using advanced sensor technologies. For instance, consumers may need to adapt their consumption according to the dynamically varying electricity prices which necessitates home automation tools. This paper tries to combine neural network and nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous variable (NARX) class for next week electric load forecasting. The suitability of the proposed approach is illustrated through an application to electric load consumption data. The suggested system provides a useful and suitable tool especially for the load forecasting.

  • This paper studies the identification of a combustion model, which is used to design a linear controller of a steam generation quantity and harmful exhaust gases of a Refuse Incineration Plant(RIP). Even though the RIP has strong nonlinearities and complexities, it is identified as a MIMO parametric ARX model from experimental input-output data sets. Unknown model parameters are decided from experimental input-output data sets, using system identification algorithm based on Instrumental Variables(IV) method. It is shown that the identified model well approximates the input-output combustion characteristics.

  • Markov chain models can be used to predict the state of the system in the future. We extend the existing Markov chain models in two ways. For the stationary model, we propose a procedure that obtains the transition probabilities by appling the empirical Bayes method, in which the parameters of the prior distribution in the Bayes estimator are obtained on the collaternal micro data. For non-stationary model, we suggest a procedure that obtains a time-varying transition probabilities as a function of the exogenous variables. To illustrate the effectiveness of our extended models, the models are applied to the macro and micro time-series data generated from actual survey. Our stationary model yields reliable parameter values of the prior distribution. And our non-stationary model can predict the variable transition probabilities effectively.

  • This study investigates long and short run responses of variables to exogenous shocks by imposing prior restrictions on a contemporaneous structural shock coefficient matrix of the model to identify shocks by endogenous variables in the vector autoregression. The relative importance of each structural shock in variation of each variable is calculated through the identification of proper restrictions (not based on any specific theory but on researcher judgment corresponding to actual situations) and an estimation of the structural vector autoregression. The results of the analyses are found to maintain consistency.

  • The study attempts to explore factors which affect life satisfaction of the elderly, and thereby to identify the most efficient strategy to enhance their happiness and satisfaction with life by means of a family support system. Previous research suggests that the family is the main origin from which emotional and ecionomic satisfacton of the aged evolves, and satisfaction is facilitated by societal assistance for the family to financially support old persons. These theoretical antecedents are incorporated into a causal model for empirical verificatio. To this end, interviews were conducted in Seoul with 300 individuals who are 60 years old or over. The major findings of this study support the theoretical assertions of previous studies. They are summarized as follows : 1. Family solidarity is highly correlated with life satisfaction of the elderly. 2. Family solidarity is raised by the intensity of their social association, satisfaction with housing, and financial resources. 3. Eduation, income and marital status as exogenous variables do not directly affect life satisfaction and family solidarity, despite their strong overall correlation. Casual effects of each variable are linked to family solidarity and then to life satisfaction through a family support system for the elderly.

  • This paper identifies a linear combustion model of Refuse Incineration Plant(RIP) which characterizes its combustion dynamics, where the proposed model has thirteen-inputs and one-output. The structure of the RIP model is given as an ARX model which obtained from the theoretical analysis. And then, some unknown model parameters are decided from experimental input-output data sets, using system identification algorithm based on Instrumental Variables(IV) method. In result, it is shown that the proposed model well approximates the input-output combustion characteristics riven by experimental data sets.
