  • The study on the existing multi-utility tunnel has examined the general aspects related to the installation of multi-utility tunnel rather than the optimal design and feasibility analysis of accommodation facility in multi-utility tunnel. In the basic planning stage related to the introduction of multi-utility tunnel, it is difficult to determine accommodation facility due to lack of relevant indicators and data. In this paper, VE/LCC analysis method is suggested for the optimal alternative decision of accommodation facilities in multi-utility tunnel. The analysis of the items of individual accommodation facility and the value index for LCC costs were applied to the kind alternatives, and the priorities of each kind were analyzed. In addition, the domestic multi-utility tunnel and analysis result are compared. The result of this study will be helpful to shorten the time and convenience of the user in the process of determining accommodation facility including the first designers when introducing multi-utility tunnel.

  • Railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever a new railroad line is planned or a housing project near an existing railroad is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those parameters that affect the railroad noise. This paper deals with an estimation of railroad noise using soundproof tunnel in a high-rise apartment building

  • When performing the tunnel excavation blasting, the lower road structure can cause the damage of the structure caused by blasting vibration. In this case the existing structurel meet all of the static and the dynamic stability. But in the domestic management of building structures is presented vibration and is the only criteria, and the criteria for major civil engineering structures insufficient research situation. This study examined the influence of the road structure according to the blast vibration by utilizing the numerical analysis.

  • The objective of this work was to investigate the interference effects of two-parallel bridge decks on aerodynamic coefficients, vortex-induced vibration, flutter instability and flutter derivatives. The two bridges have significant difference in cross-sections, dynamic properties, and flutter speeds of each isolate bridge. The aerodynamic static tests and aeroelastic tests were performed in TU-AIT boundary layer wind tunnel in Thammasat University (Thailand) with sectional models in a 1:90 scale. Three configuration cases, including the new bridge stand-alone (case 1), the upstream new bridge and downstream existing bridge (case 2), and the downstream new bridge and the upstream existing bridge (case 3), were selected in this study. The covariance-driven stochastic subspace identification technique (SSI-COV) was applied to identify aerodynamic parameters (i.e., natural frequency, structural damping and state space matrix) of the decks. The results showed that, interference effects of two bridges decks on aerodynamic coefficients result in the slightly reduction of the drag coefficient of case 2 and 3 when compared with case 1. The two parallel configurations of the bridge result in vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) and significantly lower the flutter speed compared with the new bridge alone. The huge torsional motion from upstream new bridge (case 2) generated turbulent wakes flow and resulted in vertical aerodynamic damping H1* of existing bridge becomes zero at wind speed of 72.01 m/s. In this case, the downstream existing bridge was subjected to galloping oscillation induced by the turbulent wake of upstream new bridge. The new bridge also results in significant reduction of the flutter speed of existing bridge from the 128.29 m/s flutter speed of the isolated existing bridge to the 75.35 m/s flutter speed of downstream existing bridge.

  • In order to keep infrastructures such as tunnels and underground facilities safe, cracks of concrete lining in tunnel should be detected by regular inspections. Since regular inspections are accomplished through manual efforts using maintenance lift vehicles, it brings about traffic jam, exposes works to dangerous circumstances, and deteriorates consistency of crack inspection data. This study aims to provide methodology to automatically extract cracks from tunnel concrete lining images generated by the existing tunnel image acquisition system. Specifically, we train a deep learning based semantic segmentation model with open dataset, and evaluate its performance with the dataset from the existing tunnel image acquisition system. In particular, we compare the model performance in case of using all of a public dataset, subset of the public dataset which are related to tunnel surfaces, and the tunnel-related subset with negative examples. As a result, the model trained using the tunnel-related subset with negative examples reached the best performance. In the future, we expect that this research can be used for planning efficient model training strategy for crack detection.

  • There are many cross tunnelling methods such as NTR, TRCM, Messer Shield, Front Jacking, and Pipe Roof Method. The advantages of adopting RPS(roof panel shield) method in crossing tunnel construction with comparing other existing cross tunnelling method are needed a little space and easy to change the direction of cutting shoe during the construction of pipe roof. The numerical analysis of RPS was performed for the application in the crossing tunnel under railroad. The earth pressure distribution and settlement were predicted when the RPS method was applied during the excavation for crossing railroad tunnel construction.

  • The object of this study is the safety insurance of the dam to provide for the extraordinary flood. The safety insurance of the reservoir was taken by the preparatory discharge using the temporary division tunnel used during the reservoir construction. In this study, the Sungju reservoir was simulated. The existing discharge facilities of the intake tower of the Sungju reservoir could nat have influence on the flood control. When the Sungju reservoir operated to begin preparatory discharge for 48 hrs by the temporary diversion tunnel that have discharge of an 20-years frequency, the water level was lowered about 20 cm. When the Sungju reservoir operated to begin the continuous discharge after the preparatory discharge, the water level was lowered over 1m but the downstream at risk was caused by the resulted. If it is possible to operate to begin the preparatory discharge of the reservoir for 24 hrs by the temporary diversion tunnel, that will improve the flood control faculty of the reservoir without other hydraulic structure and safety of the Sungju reservoir will be higher.

  • In order to cope with ever growing traffic flow and complexity in the urban area, construction demands for expanding and realigning of existing urban roads and massive development of underground space within the urban area are in its increasing trend, it is fact that, mainly due to lack of statistical data accumulation through real construction, technology and construction practice to support such demands can hardly be said to have been established enough and leave many things still to be developed. These circumstances therefore came to motivate me to get into a study for a particular subject of "Design Basics for Closely Neighbored Twin Tunnel" among others, and also to put forward subjects required to be further studied in this connection in the future as follows: 1) To make a new economical design model for closely neighbored twin tunnel not only to make a drain for center perfect but also a tunnel construction safe. 2) Further efforts should be exerted for establishment of general standards for design and construction of various types of large cross-section tunnels including Twin structure.

  • In this study, NATM can reduce the loosened ground near the tunnel face more than the other pre-existing tunnelling methods, because of rapid supporting by means of shotcrete and rock bolts. However, this method sometimes can not help for a unstable tunnel face with a unsupported caondition. In order to keep from that dangerous case, some excavation methods such as bench cut and drift advancing method are introduced, despite of high construction cost and period. So, this thesis is intended to introduce the new tunnel face shape, that is concave shaped face, and discusses its effects on the tunnel stabilization.
