A Computationally Inexpensive Radio Propagation Model for Vehicular Communication on Flyovers and Inside Underpasses

  • Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) utilize radio propagation models (RPMs) to predict path loss in vehicular environment. Modern urban vehicular environment contains road infrastructure units that include road tunnels, straight roads, curved roads flyovers and underpasses. Different RPMs were proposed in the past to predict path loss, but modern road infrastructure units especially flyovers and underpasses are neglected previously. Most of the existing RPMs are computationally complex and ignore some of the critical features such as impact of infrastructure units on the signal propagation and the effect of both static and moving radio obstacles on signal attenuation. Therefore, the existing RPMs are incapable of predicting path loss in flyovers and underpass accurately. This paper proposes an RPM to predict path loss for vehicular communication on flyovers and inside underpasses that considers both the static and moving radio obstacles while requiring only marginal overhead. The proposed RPM is validated based upon the field measurements in 5 GHz frequency band. A close agreement is found between the measured and predicted values of path loss.

도심 옛마을에 있어서 커뮤니티 공간의 특성 및 변화 (The Characteristics and its Change of Community Space in the Old Settlements of Cheongju City)

  • This study is to clarify the characteristics and its change of spatial elements for community focused on the existing 22 old settlements in urban area of Cheongju. These community spaces are mainly divided into three parts, that is central space, inner road, and blind alley(cul-de-sac). The transitional characteristics of them are as follows. Firstly, the characteristics of central spaces is lasting, but the function is influenced by changing times. The function of central spaces located at the entrance to the village had been reduced to adjustments to modern lifestyle, and currently changed into senior citizen community center, supermarket, and public area. Secondly, as the width of the existing inner roads passed through old settlements had been extended, they are changed into pedestrian and traffic road, but the shape and function of them have been maintained. When new roads passed through old settlements had been established, the shape of old inner roads is disappeared, and the function of them is changed into byway and alley. Thirdly, cul-de-sacs of old settlements have tended to create a sense of community, but new cul-de-sacs formed by lot division have been only changed to passage. When new roads are established and cul-de-sacs are changed into alleys, the community between individual households is lost.

  • Carbon emission calculation guidelines provided by the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT) and existing environmental load assessment studies have suggested a method for estimating based on the volume determined after the design development. Therefore they are not being helpful in the decision making of the environmental economics of road facilities in the planning stage in which specific information on construction output volume is lacking. Based on literature analysis of existing studies and consultation from a group of construction environmental professionals, 12 types of property information considered to be related to environmental load were selected from an inventory of information that will be available in the road planning stage. In addition, multiple regression analysis was performed based on the environmental load computed through the life cycle assessment (LCA) of 40 national highway project cases of Korea to deduce five impact factors of environmental load in the road facilities planning stage.

  • 도로상에서 발생되는 교통사고의 많은 부분이 도로의 선형불량에 기인된다. 이러한 도로의 개량설계를 위하여서는 도로의 선형을 정확히 분석할 필요가 있으며, 도로의 설계도와 주요진의 좌표가 필요하게 된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 현재 많이 연구되고 있는 인공위성 중 RTK GPS/GLONASS의 조합에 의하여 획득된 자료를 기존 설계도의 제원을 근거로 하여 위치정밀도를 비교하였다. 연구 결과 관측된 도로선형 자료는 5cm 범위 내에 포함되었으며, 이렇게 재현된 도로의 선형을 평가함으로써 인공위성을 이용한 도로의 선형정보체계를 보다 효율적이고 실용적으로 사용하기 위한 한 접근방법을 제시하고자 한다.

혼합정수계획법을 활용한 도로포장 보수구간 선정 최적화 연구 (Optimal Road Maintenance Section Selection Using Mixed Integer Programming)

  • PURPOSES : Pavement Management System contains the data that describe the condition of the road. Under limited budget, the data can be utilized for efficient plans. The objective of this research is to develop a mixed integer program model that maximizes remaining durable years (or Lane-Kilometer-Years) in road maintenance planning. METHODS : An optimization model based on a mixed integer program is developed. The model selects a cluster of sectors that are adjacent to each other according to the road condition. The model also considers constraints required by the Seoul Metropolitan Facilities Management Corporation. They select two lanes at most not to block the traffic and limit the number of sectors for one-time construction to finish the work in given time. We incorporate variable cost constraints. As the model selects more sectors, the unit cost of the construction becomes smaller. The optimal choice of the number of sectors is implemented using piecewise linear constraints. RESULTS : Data (SPI) collected from Pavement Management System managed by Seoul Metropolitan City are fed into the model. Based on the data and the model, the optimal maintenance plans are established. Some of the optimal plans cannot be generated directly in existing heuristic approach or by human intuition. CONCLUSIONS:The mathematical model using actual data generates the optimal maintenance plans.

CO2 산출변수를 활용한 국내 지역별 도로운송 산업 효율성 분석: undesirable SBM 및 SDM의 적용 (Efficiency Measurement of Road Transport Industry using CO2: Application of undesirable SBM and SDM)

  • In Korea, the road transport industry is pointed out as a major cause of air pollutants, so management control is needed. Existing studies used only positive input and output variables to measure regional efficiency. However, it is necessary to consider the environmental pollution problem in efficiency analysis. In this study, an undesirable SBM analysis using CO2 was conducted to measure efficiency of domestic regions. In addition, SDM was conducted to examine the ripple effect between domestic regions. As a result of the analysis, the efficiency of the capital area such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon was high in the road transport industry. However, the efficiency of the road transportation industry in Daegu and Gangwon was low. In the SDM analysis, it was found that the regional equipment capabilities had a great influence on efficiency. In order to improve efficiency, it is necessary to increase and improve the equipment capacity of the road transport industry.

신뢰도 향상과 활용성 제고를 위한 도로명주소기본도의 오류 및 정확도 분석 (Error and Accuracy Analysis about Road Name Address for Reliability Improvement and Efficient Utilization)

  • 기존 지번방식의 주소체계로부터 도로명주소체계로의 변환으로 인해 공공 및 민간분야에서 도로명주소의 활용성이 점차 증가하고 있다. 따라서 도로명주소기본도 데이터의 신뢰성이 절실히 요구되며 이는 데이터의 정확도를 뜻한다. 그러나 도로명주소기본도는 작성당시 서로 다른 도면의 사용으로 인해 정확도가 떨어지므로 활용성 또한 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 각 시도별 도로명주소기 본도의 구축현황을 파악하고, 도로명주소기본도의 위치정확도 오류를 분석하였다. 그 결과 지적현황측량 성과의 RMSE가 수치지형도측량 성과의 RMSE보다 낮게 나타난 것을 알 수 있었으며 향후 도로명주소기본도에 대한 개선방안 제시의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Intelligence Transportation Safety Information System

  • These days the large-scale car accidents have often been occurred by overspeeding in disregard of sharp curve, foggy and freezing regions. This paper has proposed the algorithm to calculate the safety speed in real time that can protect the car accidents under these weather and road conditions using Fuzzy reasoning theory. Under raining and snowing, drivers have to slow down the traffic safety speed by 1/3 of the traffic safety speed indicated on the existing speed sign plate based on their decision. So it is difficult to calculate and then observe the safety speed. This paper has performed the simulation that provides the deivers with the optimal safety speed considering the road and weather conditions in real time to improve these problems. We have proved this method can improve more 25% than the existing one.

승용차 전용 조립식 고가도로의 내진설계 연구 (Seismic Design of Prefabricated Light Weight Bridges)

  • Increasing the volume of traffic on the roads causes social and economical problems such as increasing air-pollution and distribution cost. Prefabricated light weight bridge becomes a possible solution for these problems in the urban area where it is difficult to construct new one or expend the existing road. There are some merits in this kind of bridge. First, the design live and dead loads are minimized by allowing only passenger cars. Second employing prefabrication construction scheme reduces the construction time. Third, there is no need to buy land if the elevation road is placed on the top of existing one. In seismic design of bridges, base isolation has been an effective solution when the bridge has stiff piers and a heavy superstructure. The prefabricated light weight bridge has different dynamic characteristics from the ordinary bridges. In this paper, the applicability of base isolators such as lead rubber bearing and elastomeric bearing, to prefabricated light weight bridge is examined.
