There are many ways to know the social and cultural level of each country. Among them, a museum are not only the best place to understand the history, the life style and the culture level. The most important constituent, which museum architecture has, are visitors, exhibition and communication between visitors. Exhibition space composition is the one of important things in museum architecture, and it's essential to show an intent of exhibition to visitors. This thesis has the purpose to provide the basic material through analyzing exhibition space composition and exhibition method of the theme museum and understanding the relativity of them so that the new theme museums can be designed in the Tight direction. So I chose the independence museum that opened within recent 10 years, finally middle & small size's theme museum were selected. The results from the case study are as follow. Firstly, the exhibition space unit of basic type and center-hall enter type had a one-way for gateway and used the exhibition of three or four faces. The exhibition space unit of around tile center-hall type and guidance type had the separated gateway and used the exhibition of one or two faces. Secondly, the exhibition method of selected museums was divided into the wall face type and the island type. The exhibition method of two faces mainly used in guidance type caused complicated visitor circulation. In that case, it seemed to be good that two walls were used alternately. Thirdly, there were visual type, audio-visual type, handling type and experiential type in the method of exhibition. The former two types were used mostly, and the latter two types were rarely used. Fourthly, the wall face type was inefficient for exhibition because given walls were supposed to be used. Therefore, it was more effective to use the wall face type and the island type together.
Founded on a close relationship between exhibition scenarios and media, this study was conducted 1) to establish exhibition arrangement types by using three analytical indicators, such as arrangement types of exhibition, groupings of similar exhibition media, and exhibition density; and 2) to demonstrate the importance of considering the characteristics of exhibition arrangement types by using viewing behavior codes as a major analytical indicator. The following three types were investigated in this research: First, the Independent type (Type C) was found to be strongly influenced by architectural and spatial forms, especially by low exhibition density and high visual information. Also, compared with the Wall Dominant type, low number of viewing behavior codes and distribution was found even though there were high correlations among viewing behavior codes. This is assumed to be due to low exhibition density. Second, the Wall Dominant type (Type A) was found to be not influenced by architectural and spatial forms. This is because space is planned and restructured centering on the wall type showcases. At the planning stage of exhibition, it is easy to divide or combine space according to the contents and structure of exhibition scenarios. Compared with the Independent type, low correlations were found among viewing behavior codes. This is due to low participation or manipulation exhibitions. However, this implies that more active viewing behaviors can be induced if appropriate exhibition techniques and arrangement methods are used for each exhibition content. Third, the Independent Dominant type (Type B) was found to confuse visitors in selecting routes by displaying too many exhibits at a limited space in a disorderly fashion. It failed to attract visitors to the main exhibition area, where a big space is formed in the center. Visitors were found to view exhibits that are arranged near the major traffic line.
An exhibition administrator, one who works in the exhibition space of museums and exhibition halls, has carried on various tasks in order to improve the exhibition standard and viewer's satisfaction. Although exhibition administrators have a variety of direct perceptions regarding an exhibition in the actual on-site space, a study on their consciousness was absent. Thus, this study was to comprehend the awareness of how the consciousness of exhibition administrators, who directly understand the various matters regarding the exhibition on-site, was structured and to investigate the difference between the consciousness of exhibition viewers and designers. For the study, Q-Methodology, which can scientifically manage the consciousness such as awareness and the acquired attitudes through individual experiences from a specific group, was applied. The classification of 33 Q-methodology research questions was carried out with 18 exhibition administrators, who are working at either national or public museums and exhibition halls in Korea, and the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using the QUANL PC program was performed. The results of the analysis provided the following 4 types: 'viewer attraction and exhibition method oriented', 'exhibition standard oriented', 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented'. Each type showed significant characteristics. Additionally, n showed that 'exhibition standard oriented' was the common type after comparing the type of consciousness among the 3 groups of people, such as an exhibition administrator, an exhibition designer, and a viewer. It indicated that the types of 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented' from the consciousness category for the exhibition administrator were the most independent type, not being found in any of the other groups. And the Significant correlation between the exhibition viewers and designers was identified after examining the Pearson's correlation among the 3 groups.
Museums after '70's shows remarkable development in public area as well as exhibiiton area. One of the main changes in recent museums is to extend the concept of circulatin area, which regarded solely as a corridor connecting exhibition areas, as a multiple function area with various service facilities. This study aims to outline atypological classification of exhibition area considering with circulation area in museum. On the base of two principal types of exhibition area, that is room type vs open plant type, 30 representative worldwide museums are analyzed and four different types are identified as a result. 1) Loop type as a rotating structure of serial exhibition rooms 2) Cluster type which produce complicated circulation with rooms lied one upon another 3) Centrum type which is specially available to multistory exhibition area 4) Loft type with maximum flexibi쇼 and accessbility.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial transformational patterns according to the spectator and the exhibition environment and to examine the role of 'the middle space' organically linking the exhibition space with MoA which is a representative example of 'sequential exhibition space'. The concept of sequential exhibition space in MoA is applied not only to building but also to extended continental concepts including neighborhood. MoA's exhibition space consists of the library area and the exhibition area. In particular, the spaces of library area perform a complex function as a quasi-exhibition space, and the exhibition spaces have variable spatial transformation through an associated structure of the library area and the educational area. The types of exhibition space those constitute the sequential exhibition space of MoA appear as 'Room type', 'Free plan type', and 'Gallery type'. Each exhibition space maintains independence, but it is changed according to the situation of exhibition. The flow is based on the spiral induction around the central void space, but with selective circulation considering the visitors. Therefore, through the transformation of the exhibition area and the division of the flow, the whole museum space appears as the area differentiation.
As the quality of life has improved today, there is a growing desire among consumers for new space and interest in spending their valuable time in 'the third space' has tended to increase. Cafes have been integrated with sales and exhibition space as the representative third space. For example, it's cafe type automobile exhibition centers. The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of 'the third space' in cafe type automobile exhibition centers and suggest a plan for effective spatial characteristics. It checked the necessity of the third space' in automobile exhibition centers by analyzing automobile consumption trends of the 21st century according to industry change and restructures a checklist by grasping cafe type automobile exhibition centers and the concept and characteristics of 'the third space' based on the precedent studies. A questionnaire is made through the checklist drawn and a survey is conducted targeting users of the target areas of cases. The target areas of cases are 4 cafe type automobile exhibition centers opened in Korea since 2014. The analytical results of the target areas of cases that reflected the characteristics of 'the third space' are as follow: First, cafe type automobile exhibition centers must be built to make customers enter the space and at the same time, receive information on automobiles and space naturally. Second, in order to increase satisfaction with the space and brands, there is the necessity to arouse their interest through various experiences including test driving cars directly. Third, revisit intention can be found to be more influenced by spatial design than brand satisfaction. Fourth, partitions or interior for dividing the space need to be improved. In the next studies, specific research on plans about creating design to improve corporate image and brands and induce customers to revisit cafe type automobile exhibition centers by applying the characteristics of 'the third place' to them is required.
The pre-examination closely beforehand relation between the articles on exhibition and visitors, the visitors and exhibition space, the exhibition space and the articles on exhibition, and the acceptance of various requirements are the matters you should consider in the initial stage when planning the establishment of a museum. This study can be defined as the study of fundamental background for the architectural guideline for the characteristics of visitor's behavior, the selected moving line in the exhibition hall, the layout against the forced moving line and the type of exhibition space. As a part of this study, we carried out the research and the study for how the movement of visitors and the characteristics of seeing behaviors according to the type of the moving line are shown, based on the type of moving line for seeing suggested by David Dean.
In order to verify the validity of the exhibition moethod in a science museum, this study undertakes a visitor follow-up survey, and clarifies the influence an exhibition method affect visitor's behavior, and its feature. The tracking research performed the visitor follow-up survey to family company children. The characteristic of the visitor's behavior by the exhibition method; Use frequency becomes low in order of 'Experience type' 'Participation type' 'Fixed type'. Experience type has tendencies, such as repetitive and continuing use, and use time was long. Otherwise use time of Fixed type was short. As a result, although the use frequency of Hands-on is high and its use time is longer than Hands-off, it turns out that is influenced according to factors, such as the exhibition method, presentation and the contents of exhibition.
The study intends to systematically arrange and classify the museum layouts in terms of their structure of exhibition space. The exhibition space, here, means the whole area where visitors are allowed to move and visit in museums. Through this, I tied to understand the characteristics and trends comparing and analyzing international and national exhibition space layout, and then grope the standard in case of establishing museum. The first criteria is based on the point of view that the typical museum experience is made in the exhibition space. Accordingly, the exhibition space can be grouped into two categories; one is 'room type' consisting mostly of individual rooms as in classical museums, and the other is 'open plan type' consisting free standing walls as in miesian free plan. The second criteria is dependent on the way how visitors move about in exhibition spaces. In other words, museum layouts can be categorized in terms of mutual connection between individual spaces including exhibition spaces and corridor spaces designated for the purpose of moving. consequently, the layouts can be categorized into five groups such as 'free plan', 'linear type', 'room to room', 'room & corridor' and 'composition type'. The third criteria is about the overall structure of museum layouts including such elements as whether it contains a certain type of central major space or not and whether and how the exhibition spaces are connected to it. By applying these classificatory criteria, the study analyzed and classified 90 sample of museum layouts in order to understand clearly and succintly the spatial characteristics and implications contained in them.
This study attempts to understand the arrangement and spatial requisites of art pieces by materializing the visitors' path of movement in the exhibition space, as well as researching their behavior. The purpose of the research is to the guideline for planning the exhibition layout and visitors' circulation can be derived in order to correspond to the visitors' characteristic of movement and circulation-path choice. Although such guideline may have limited use, it is still significant enough to be studied. Taking three Korean art galleries as the subjects of research, this study observes the arrangement of art pieces, movement path of visitors, characteristics of the visitors' behavior and the duration time a visitor takes to view an art piece without moving around in order to understand the arrangement and spatial requisites of art pieces which correspond to the visitors' behavior. The following results have been drawn in this research and analysis; First, when there is an island type exhibition other than the ordinary on-the-wall display in the exhibition space, the visitors' choice of path changes. In short, an island type exhibition seems to be a factor that changes the visitors' path. Second, in the entrance of an exhibition space unit, most of the visitors seem to choose a path which moves counter-clockwise. Third, it is considered that well-known art pieces or art pieces with a big size shall not be displayed on the comer of the exhibition room.
