  • We devised the system to automatically shutdown the boiler and to fundamentally block the harmful gases, including carbon monoxide, into the indoor when the exhaust system swerves: (1) The discharge pressure of the exhaust gas decreases when the exhaust pipe is disconnected. The monitoring system of the exhaust pipe is implemented by measuring the output voltage of APS(Air Pressure Sensor) installed to control the amount of combustion air. (2) The operating software was modified so that when the system recognizes the fault condition of a flue pipe, the boiler control unit displays the fault status on the indoor regulator while shutting down the boiler. In accordance with the ventilation facility standards in the "Rules for Building Equipment Standards" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, experiments were conducted to ventilate indoor air. When carbon monoxide leaked in worst-case scenario, it was possible to prevent poisoning accidents. However, since 2013, the number of indoor air exchange times has been mitigated from 0.7 to 0.5 times per hour. We observed the concentration exceeding TWA 30 ppm occasionally and thus recommend to reinforce this criterion. In conclusion, if the flue pipe fault detection and the indoor air ventilation system are introduced, carbon monoxide poisoning accidents are expected to decrease significantly. Also when the manufacturing and inspection steps, the correct installation and repair are supplemented with the user's attention in missing flue, it will be served to prevent human casualties from carbon monoxide poisoning.

  • As the industry of 21C has been developed, the gas industry has grown and it has not only the convenience but also the riskiness fer using. Especially, the energy and environment problems have been getting serious after the modern industry revolution. Therefore, the demand of gas as an eco-friendly energy source is getting increased. With the demand of gas, the installation and use of gas boiler is also increased, so human life injury by the waste gas(CO) of boiler goes on increasing every year. Therefore, we want to find out the harm to human body through the study on the concentration of CO by the length of the curved exhaust tube of boiler. The allowable concentration of CO is 50ppm. The length of the one-meter-three-curved tube after three minutes is applicable to 50ppm of the threshold limit values of CO. Also, five meters exceed the threshold limit values of CO after five minutes. Strangely, the concentration of CO is under the threshold limit values from two to four meters.

  • A 3 MW class oxy-fuel boiler has been developed to capture $CO_2$ from the exhaust gas. The system is a scale-up of the previous 0.5 MW class system in general. A heat exchanger and a mixer are additionally installed to stabilize the flame for the FGR mode. The system yields the exhaust gas with $CO_2$ concentration over 90% and reduced NO emission to 1/10 of conventional air combustion system.

  • This paper presents the experimental investigations of a system as a second treatment means to increase boiler efficiency and heat transfer from combustion gas to heating surfaces in the case of spray combustion. In order to reburn residual combustible components accelerate the burning rate of sprayed fuel droplets, improve the diffusion flame and delay the residence time of the flame, advice with slit type nozzles for spouting preheated supplementary air is used in this study. In the experiment, boiler efficiency and smoke concentration in the exhaust gas at given conditions are measured in both case of installing and not-installing device in the model of combustion chamber which was designed to be equipped with five surfaces. The results obtained in this experiment are as follows ; 1. The optimum values of air rate ${\lambda}$ are about 1.3 in both case. 2. The exhaust gas temperature in the case with device increases about $30{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ above that of the case without the device. 3. Boiler efficiency and reduction effect of smoke emissions are improved considerably.

  • This study was carried out to optimize burner and heat exchanger of the condensing gas boiler which can save energy by utilizing latent heat of combustion gas and reduce pollutant in exhaust gas. The heat exchanger of the gas boiler was composed of three parts, which were an upper. lower , and coil heat exchanger . The upper heat exchanger was placed outside of the premixed burner and a lower heat exchanger was located under the upper heat exchanger. And, coil heat exchanger rounded the outer surface of an upper and lower heat exchanger. The boiler designed by this research reaches turn-down ratio 4 : 1 in the domain of equivalence ratio 0.75-0.8 and thermal efficiency of 97% . Emission of NOx and CO concentration was under 20ppm and 140ppm at equivalence ratio 0.8 . When diameter of the burner replace 60mm by 50mm. emission of CO was reduced about 50ppm remarkably.

  • In order to improve the overall efficiency and meet the emission regulations of boiler systems, the heat exchanging methods between inlet air and exhaust gas have been used in boiler systems, named as the waste-heat-recovery condensing boiler. Recently, to further improve the overall efficiency and to reduce the NOx emission simultaneously, the concept of the water injection into the inlet air is introduced. This study suggests the models for the optimized design parameters of water injection for waste-heat-recovery condensing boilers and performs the analysis regarding the water injection amount and droplet sizes for the optimized water injection. At first, the required amount of the water injection was estimated based on the 1st law of thermodynamics under the assumption of complete evaporation of the injected water. The result showed that the higher the inlet air and exhaust gas temperature into the heat exchanger, the larger the amount of injected water is needed. Then two droplet evaporation models were proposed to analyze the required droplet size of water injection for full evaporation of injected water: one is the evaporation model of droplet in the inlet air and the other is that on the wall of heat exchanger. Based on the results of two models, the maximum allowable droplet sizes of water injection were estimated in various boiler operating conditions with respect to the residence time of the inlet air in the heat exchanger.

  • In the last five years, 45 people died and 104 were wounded because of carbon monoxide poisoning accident. CO poisoning accident is higher than any other gas accident in the rate of deaths/incidents. Most of these CO poisoning accidents were caused by defective exhaust tube in the old gas boiler and multi-use facility. In this study, the spread of CO gas released from leakage hole of exhaust tube was analyzed by concentration measuring test. CO gas leaked form exhaust tube in a building was highest concentrated near the ceiling. Through these experiments, the reasonable installation location of CO alarm was made certain and suggested.

  • This research presents an innovative integrated ethanol solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system designed for applications in marine vessels. The system incorporates an exhaust gas heat recovery mechanism. The high-temperature exhaust gas produced by the SOFC is efficiently recovered through a sequential process involving a gas turbine (GT), a regenerative system, steam Rankine cycles, and a waste heat boiler (WHB). A comprehensive thermodynamic analysis of this integrated SOFC-GT-SRC-WHB system was performed. A simulation of this proposed system was conducted using Aspen Hysys V12.1, and a genetic algorithm was employed to optimize the system parameters. Thermodynamic equations based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics were utilized to assess the system's performance. Additionally, the exergy destruction within the crucial system components was examined. The system is projected to achieve an energy efficiency of 58.44% and an exergy efficiency of 29.43%. Notably, the integrated high-temperature exhaust gas recovery systems contribute significantly, generating 1129.1 kW, which accounts for 22.9% of the total power generated. Furthermore, the waste heat boiler was designed to produce 900.8 kg/h of superheated vapor at 170 ℃ and 405 kP a, serving various onboard ship purposes, such as heating fuel oil and accommodations for seafarers and equipment.
