The principal trends in the course of emission control legislation are reviewed in this paper. In order to keep such a regulation, moreover, an inquiry ito the concrete technical possibility is conducted through review articles, Also, the composition of exhaust gases emitted from a marine diesel engine are investigated as several samples and the measures that can satisfy the value of regulation are handled with laying stress on the control methods discussed to date. It was concluded that various combined systems can be made to reduce NOx emissions without deteriorating substantially navigation costs since many technologies for reducing NOx emissions are being developed. All heat engines suffer from SOx emissions. There are two methods for reducing SOx emissions: desulfurization from exhaust gas and removal of sulfur composition from fuel oil. However it is necessary to watch the development of these technologies to evaluate which method is more favorable. Heat engines have a big problem in the regulation of environmental pollution from exhaust emissions. In the near future, however, diesel engines may be superior to other heat engines, owing to the high thermal efficiency, although the sales of individual models in dises engines may be prosperous and declining.
The effect of gaseous ammonia direct injection on the engine performance and exhaust emissions in gasoline-ammonia dual fueled spark-ignition engine was investigated in this study. Results show that based on the gasoline contribution engine power increases as the ammonia injection timing and duration is advanced and increased, respectively. However, as the initial amount of gasoline is increased the maximum power output contribution from ammonia is reduced. For gasoline-ammonia, the appropriate injection timing is found to range from 320 BTDC at low loads to 370 BTDC at high loads and the peak pressures are slightly lower than that for gasoline due to the slow flame speed of ammonia, resulting in the reduction of combustion efficiency. The brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) for gasoline-ammonia has little difference compared to the BSEC for gasoline only. Ammonia direct injection causes slight reduction of $CO_2$ and CO for all presented loads but significantly increases HC due to the low combustion efficiency of ammonia. Also, ammonia direct injection results in both increased ammonia and NOx in the exhaust due to formation of fuel NOx and ammonia slip.

Diesel engines have high thermal efficiency, and they have less CO & HC emissions than another engines. while NOx & Soot emissions are very much. compared with exhaust emission standards. However, the limit level is more and more strengthened yearly due to the importance of environmental protection. So, the optimal countermeasures for the reduction of NOx & Soot emissions below limit level are required. Therefore. the author has investigated the effects of emulsified fuel on the characteristics of exhaust emissions. using an four-cycle, four-cylinder and direct injection diesel engine because the using of emulsified fuel among various methods for reducing NOx & Soot emissions is simple in installation low in cost and high in efficiency. The results of investigation according to various operating conditions are as follows : 1) Specific fuel consumption increase maximum 19.8% at low load. but is not affected at full load. 2) In case of emulsion ratio 25%, NOx emission decrease 32% at 75% load. 30% at full load. 3) In case of emulsion ratio 25%, Soot emission decrease 84% at 75% load, 59% at full load.
In the previous study, a study was conducted to improve the exhaust gas intake efficiency by improving the existing soot measurement probe in the shape and angle of the exhaust port. As a result, it can be seen that the smoke measurement performance according to the shape and angle is improved. In previous studies, the performance of the soot probe was not confirmed for the Korean KD 147 mode, which has a low suction flow rate and a long inspection time. So, we would like to confirm the improvement of the smoke probe performance of the Korean KD 147 mode, which is close to the actual driving conditions. The probe used in this study is another type of probe, and has a circular ring shape instead of a rib and variable center position unit, so the probe center hole is located close to the center of the exhaust pipe.
In order to compliant the stringent exhaust emission regulations, higher fuel efficiency and cleaner exhaust gas in combustion engines have been required. To improve combustion efficiency, an exhaust gas temperature is increasing, therefore higher temperature resistance is required for components in exhaust system, especially turbine wheel in turbocharger. IN100 looks quite attractive candidate as it has high temperature properties with low density, however it has low castability due to poor ductility at high temperature. In this study, the balance of Al and Ti composition was optimized from the base alloy IN100 to improve the high temperature ductility by expanding the γ single phase region below the solidification temperature, while obtaining the high temperature strength by maintaining the volume fraction of γ' phase equivalent to IN100 around 1000℃. Furthermore, the high temperature creep rupture life increased by adding a small amount of Ta. The alloy developed in this study has high castability, low density and high specific strength at high temperature.

We have developed a highly efficient boiler system using the 2,600cc Diesel engine. In this system, the co-generation concept is utilized in that the electric power is produced by the generator connected to the engine, and waste heat is recovered from both the exhaust gases and the engine itself by the shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The heat exchanger connected to the engine outlet is specially designed such that it not only recovers waste heat effectively from the exhaust gases, but significantly reduces an engine noise. It is found that the total efficiency(thermal efficiency plus electric power generation efficiency) of this system reaches maximum 96.3% which is about 15% higher than the typical Diesel engine boiler system currently being used worldwide.
When an oxidizing catalytic converter which makes use of platium as a catalyst is employed by means if emission control of CO and HC gasoline engine, the effects of important factors for the purification efficiency, i.e engine speed and secondary air rate, on the reduction of CO and HC concentrations in the exhaust gas are studied experimentally. In the experiment, gasoline and LPG are used as a fuel, and the purification efficiency is examined and the results of both cases are compared with each other. The experimental results showed that the purification efficiency in the case of LPG is usually higher than that of gasoline, and the optimum values of engin speed and secondary air rate for maximum purification efficiency exist in common on both cases.
There have been many cases when an air curtain installed in the apartment could not remove the gases well, such as carbon dioxide and particles like as smoke, oils, and vapors generated during cooking to disperse pollutants into the room. This study used a numerical analysis to show how the pollutant-removing performance of the range hood is changed when the air curtain is installed front of the kitchen table. The result of this study was that when the air amount supplied by an air curtain through the slot was about 50% of the exhaust amount, the capturing efficiency of the range hood for pollutants increased 90% more than without an air curtain. Even when the amount of supplied air was small, the capturing efficiency improved markedly with the use of an upward air curtain. In case that the air flow rate of the slot was greater than 60%, the capturing efficiency decreased.
The concept of hydrogen enriched LPG fuelled engine can be essentially characterized as low emissions and reduction of backfire for hydrogen engine. The purpose of study is obtaining low-emission and high-efficiency in LPG engine with hydrogen enrichment. In order to determine the ideal compression ratio, a variable compression ratio single cylinder engine was developed. The objective of this paper is to clarify the effects of hydrogen enriched LPG fuelled engine on exhaust emission, thermal efficiency and performance. The compression ratio of 8 was selected to minimize abnormal combustion. To maintain equal heating value, the amount of LPG was decreased, and hydrogen was gradually added. In a similar manner, the relative air-fuel ratio was increased from 0.8 to 1.3 in increment of 0.1, and the ignition timing was controlled to be at MBT each case.
This paper presents the simulation of the multi-cylinder 4-stroke cycle spark-ignition engine using a commercial simulation tool, AVL BOOST. Various models were examined to select the appropriate models that would best serve to analyze the main components of the intake and exhaust systems-the plenum chamber, the muffler and the exhaust manifold branch junction. For the plenum chamber and the muffler, the tank model and the pipe model were tested. In order to analyze the exhaust manifold branch junction, a complicated model which reflects the actual shape and involves pressure drops was compared to a simplified one. The results show that both the tank model and the pipe model are applicable with satisfying accuracies for the plenum chamber and the muffler. However, the tank model is more desirable in regards to convenience in modeling and efficiency in calculation. Though both the complicated model and the simplified model show satisfying accuracies for the exhaust manifold branch junction, the simplified model is recommended in regards to convenience in modeling and efficiency in calculation.
