  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of bone metabolic parameters between climbing exercise training and treadmill running training with alpha lipoic acid supplementation in ovariectomized rats. Fifty-six Sparague-Dawley, 8 weeks of age, were assigned into nine groups: normal control at pre-test (Pre-NC), normal control at post-test (NC), sham-sedentary (SS), ovariectomized-control (OVX-Con), ovariectomized-ALA inject (OVX-ALA), ovariectomized-climbing exercise (OVX-CE), ovariectomized-ALA inject+climbing exercise (OVX-ACE), ovariectomized-treadmill exercise (OVX-TE) and ovariectomized-ALA inject+treadmill exercise (OVX-ATE). The climbing exercise group voluntarily climbed the 200 cm tower to drinking water from the bottle set at the top of it. The treadmill exercise group was performed the 60 min treadmill running with grade 6-8%, and velocity 10-15 m/min. The frequency of exercise training was performed 6 days per wk in both training intervention. For the comparison of bone metabolic responses following to different training intervention, the strength, length and weight of femur, total bone density, bone mineral contents, deoxypyridioline, osteocalcin and parathyroid hormone, estradiol and lutenizing hormone were measured in this study. The body weight was higher in the OVX-Con, OVX-ALA and OVX-TE groups as compared to NC group. The total bone mineral density of OVX-ACE showed a higher value than SS, OVX-Con, OVX-ATE and OVX-TE. But urine and blood metabolic parameters showed no significance among groups. In conclusion, this study results suggested that climbing exercise training and alpha lipoic acid supplementation may an effective intervention for prevention of osteoporosis in ovriectomized rats.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of occupational therapy with physical exercise on executive function with dementia. For eight elderly persons with mild or moderate dementia, we executed physical exercise with group activity for 10 weeks from April to June, 2012, one times per week, and 50 minutes each time. Before and after the physical activities, the old adults were tested with Verbal Fluency Test(VFT), Trail Making Test A/B(TMT A/B), Clock Drawing Test(CDT). After the physical exercise, the subjects showed significant changes in the score of CDT(p<0.1). In contrast, there was no significant effect in VFT, TMT A. The results of this study show that occupational therapy with physical exercise program for demented elderly people is a useful therapeutic approach by enhancing the their quality of life through improving and maintaining their executive function.

  • In this study we investigated the impact of exercise program through the grip strength, the balance and the bone mineral density of elderly women in rural community. A total of number 56 elderly women were divided into two groups, the experimental group(n=33) and the control group(n=23). The experimental group participated exercise program during 13 weeks from 3 Oct to 29 Decem in 2005, twice a week 60 minutes per session. Among the experimental group, 33 people who participated over 20 times exercise program were chosen as the subjects of analysis. The results of this study were as follows: The grip strength was significantly increased in the experimental group compared with the control group(p<0.05). The Timed up and go test and Bone Mineral Density were significantly increased in the experimental group compared with the control group(p<0.01). In conclusion, there has been a substantial improvement in 13 weeks by exercise program is recommended to elderly women in aspect of increasing the grip strength, the balance and the bone mineral density.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aquatic exercise on body composition, fitness and pulmonary function. Subjects were seven spasticity cerebral palsy(18-20years). The aquatic exercise program consisted of 11 items, and performed for 30-40mins in a bout, 4 times a week at the intensity of HRmax($40-65\%$) for 12 weeks. And the change of body weight, %fat, fat mass, hand grip, sit up, sit and reach, close eyes foot balance and side step have been measured before and post exercise 12 weeks. Paired t-test was performed for data analysis at the 0.051eve1 of significance. The following results as; First, body compositions(body weight, $\%$fat and fat mass) were decreased significantly after 12 weeks(p< .05). Second, muscle endurance, balance and flexibility were increased significantly after 12 weeks(p< .05, p< .01), respectively. Third, vital capacity was increased significantly after 12 weeks(p< .05). These results suggest that the aquatic exercise programs are applicable to the spasticity cerebral palsy with abnormal movement.
