Association between Exercise Capacity and Cardiovascular Risk Factors among Obesity Types in Adult Man

  • Increased waist circumference has shown to be more strongly associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between exercise capacity and cardiovascular risk factors among obese types in adult men. The subjects of this study were a total fifty-four obese persons and obesity criteria is body mass index $(BMI){\geq}25kg/m^2$. Diagnostic criteria for obesity was defined as a waist circumference of ${\geq}90cm$. The BMI in the obese subjects, as judged by the presence or absence of abdominal obesity, were classified into two groups (non-AO: without abdominal obesity group, AO: with abdominal obesity group). AO presented lower total exercise time, metabolic equivalents (METs) than Non-AO. AO showed slow HRR (heart rate recovery) response. HRR was negative correlated with BMI, body fat mass, waist circumference. AO had a high heart rate and a low cardiac output in submaximal exercise stage 1~2. In conclusion, AO's (with abdominal obesity groups) total exercise time, METs and HRR are lower than Non-AO. HRR is related with BMI, body fat mass and waist circumference.

호흡근 훈련이 뇌졸중환자의 폐기능과 수면의 질에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Respiratory Muscle Exercises on Pulmonary Function and Quality of Sleep among Stroke Patients)

  • PURPOSE: This study attempts to examine the impact of respiratory muscle exercises on the respiratory function and quality of sleep among stroke patients. METHODS: A total of 20 stroke patients were randomly divided into a breathing-exercise training group(n=10) and a breathing-device-training group(n=10). Changes in pulmonary function, as well as the quality, were measured before and after the intervention. The breathing exercise was performed three times a week for a total of eight weeks. Breathing-device exercises made use of a lung-capacity-strengthening device and were performed for three times a week for eight weeks. One Flow FVC was used as a measurement tool for the pulmonary function test. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) and a sleep measurement tool were used for sleep evaluation. RESULTS: In a comparison of changes in pulmonary function before and after the training, the breathing-exercise group and the breathing-device-training group showed a significant difference. In changes of sleeping measure and PSQI, the breathing-exercise group and the breathing-device-training group also showed significant differences. CONCLUSION: Diverse index analyses confirmed that breathing exercises and exercises using a lung-capacity-strengthening device, were effective in improving respiratory function and quality of sleep among stroke patients experiencing respiratory function disorders and sleep disorders.

트레드밀 훈련이 20대 남성 비만인의 폐기능 및 체질량지수에 미치는 영향 (The Effects on the Pulmonary Function and Body Mass Index of 20's Men Obesity after Treadmill Exercise)

  • PURPOSE : The purpose of this study was to determine whether tredmill exercise increases pulmonary function and decreases body mass index of the 20s obesity. METHOD : Thirty obesity in their 20s were randomly assigned to on experimental group (n=15) or control group (n=15). Over the course of four weeks, the experimental group participated in tredmill exercise for 30 minutes three times per week and the control group participated in auto-med exercise for 30 minutes three times per week. Subjects were assessed pre-test and post-test by measurement of pulmonary function (tidal volume, inspiration reserve volume, expiratory reserve volume, vital capacity) and body mass index. RESULT : Our findings show that the experimental group had significant difference in expiratory reserve volume and vital capacity and body mass index (p<.05). In the comparison of the two groups, the experimental group had higher pulmonary function and lower body mass index than the control group. CONCLUSION : In this study, the experimental group showed greater improvement in pulmonary function than the control group, which indicates that the tredmill exercise is effective at increasing the pulmonary function and body mass index 20s obesity.

경옥고의 항피로 효능 (Anti-fatigue Effect of Kyung-Ok-Ko)

  • In this study, we tested anti-fatigue effect of Kyung-Ok-Ko (KOK). We examined the exercise performance effects of KOK (600 mg/kg) at 2nd, 3rd and 4th week. The exercise performance of KOK treated group was significantly improved than that of vehicle control (VC) group on grip strength (2nd week), exhausted time of treadmill (3rd week) and exhausted time of weight loaded swimming (4th week). We also investigated the effects of KOK on the change of fatigue parameters in blood, skeletal muscle and liver after swimming exercise. KOK significantly reduced lactate level and enhanced glucose level in blood. Equally KOK significantly increased glycogen in skeletal muscle. However, the glycogen level of KOK in the liver was not significantly increased compared to VC group. These results show that supplementation of KOK may improve the anti-fatigue activity and exercise capacity.

누리다 볼 운동이 중년 남성의 근기능, 척추정렬 및 동적 균형능력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Nurida-Ball exercise on muscle function, spinal alignment, and dynamic balance capacity in Middle-Aged Men)

  • 본 연구는 8주간의 누리다 볼 운동이 중년 남성들의 등속성 근기능, 척추 정렬 및 동적 균형 능력에 미치는 영향을 규명하는데 있다. 본 연구의 대상자는 중년 남성(n=16)을 공 운동 그룹(BE, n=8)과 비교 그룹(CON, n=8)으로 구분하였으며 BE 그룹은 하루 30분, 주 3회, 총 8주간 누리다 볼 운동을 실시하여 등속성 슬관절 및 체간의 근 기능, 척추 정렬 및 동적 균형 능력을 측정하였다. 측정된 모든 변인들은 평균과 표준편차를 산출하고, Shapiro-Wilk test를 이용하여 정규성 검증을 확인하였다. 이후 집단 간의 차이를 확인하기 위해서 독립(Independant) t-test 방법과 대응(Paired) t-test 방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 등속성 슬관절 및 체간 근 기능은 CON 그룹과 비교하여 BE 그룹에서 좌측과 우측의 슬관절 신전근의 피크파워(%BW, 60°/sec, p<.001, respectively), 좌측과 우측 슬관절 신전근의 평균파워(%BW, 60°/sec, p<.05, p<.001, respectively), 우측 슬관절 굴골근의 피크파워(%BW, 180/sec, p<.05) 및 우측 슬관절 신전근의 평균파워(%BW, 180°/sec, p<.05)가 유의하게 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 등속성 체간의 근 기능 변화량은 CON 그룹과 비교하여 BE 그룹에서 신전근의 피크토크(%BW, 180/sec, p<.05)가 유의하게 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 누리다 볼 운동은 몸통 앞뒤 기울기를 감소시켜 척추 정렬을 일부 개선한 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 마지막으로 CON 집단과 비교하여 BE 집단에서 동적 균형 능력은 6 단계의 전체균형지수(p<0.01), 전후균형지수(p<0.05) 및 1단계의 전체균형지수(p<0.05)를 유의하게 감소시켰다. 따라서 연구를 종합해 보면 누리다 볼 운동은 중년 남성들에게 있어 등속성 근 기능, 척추 정렬 및 동적 균형 능력과 같은 건강 관련 체력을 향상 시킬 수 있는 효과적인 운동 기구라고 사료되며, 향후 운동의 형태(강도, 빈도 등)를 다양하게 적용한 후속 연구가 필요할 것이다.

8주간의 슈로스운동(3차원적 융합운동)이 특발성 척추 측만증 환자의 폐기능과 Cobb's angle, Scoliometer angle, 척추세움근의 근활성도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of 8 Weeks of Schroth Exercise (Three-dimensional Convergence Exercise) on Pulmonary Function, Cobb's Angle, and Erector Spinae Muscle Activity in Idiopathic Scoliosis)

  • 본 연구는 schroth 운동(3차원적 융합운동)이 폐기능과 Cobb's angle, scoliometer angle과 척추세움근의 근활성도에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. Cobb's angle $10^{\circ}$ 이상의 특발성 척추측만증을 가지고 있는 학생 40명을 대상으로 각각 20명의 슈로스운동군과 전통적인 치료군으로 나누어 총 8주간 주 3회, 회당 60분의 운동을 실시하였다. 8주간의 Schroth 운동을 적용한 그룹에서는 Cobb's angle과 갈비뼈 돌출부, 폐활량, 체간의 확장, 오른쪽 흉추부위의 활성도에 유의한 차이를 보였다. 8주간의 전통적인 측만증 운동을 실시한 그룹에서는 체간의 확장성에서 유의한 차이를 보였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 3차원적 접근법인 슈로스운동이 특발성 척추측만증 환자의 흉추측만각도의 감소와 폐기능의 향상을 목적으로 한 중재기법으로 기존의 운동방법보다 효과적이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 차후의 연구에서는 척추측만증이 장기간의 관리와 치료가 필요한 질환임을 이해하고 이에 따라 체계적인 자세관리와 3차원적 융합운동 프로그램의 적용이 필요하다고 사료된다.

마자인(麻子仁)이 치매병태모델의 운동과 인지기능에 미치는 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Cannabis Fructus on Exercise Capacity and Cognitive Function in Vascular Dementia Rat Model)

  • Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Cannabis Fructus on exercise capacity and cognitive function in chronic hypoperfusion induced vascular dementia rat model. Methods Vascular dementia rat models were induced by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion through bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion (BCCAO). All rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal group; control group; CF I group (feeding Cannabis Fructus 100 mg/kg); CF II group (feeding Cannabis Fructus 300 mg/kg). In order to study the effects of oral administration of Cannabis Fructus on vascular dementia rat models, corner turn test, hole board test, radial arm maze test, passive avoidance test were taken and Acetylcholine (ACh) activity, Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, serum of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein level were measured. Also histological findings of the liver, kidney, brain and the change of Tau immunoreactive neurons in hippocampus were observed. Results CF I and CF II showed significant improvement in corner turn test, hole board test, radial arm maze test, passive avoidance test, Acetylcholine (ACh) activity, Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, the serum of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein level and the change of Tau immunoreactive neurons in hippocampus. CF I showed more significant effect than CF II in these tests. However in histological observations of the liver and kidney both CF I and CF II showed glomerular injury and hepatotoxicity. Conclusions These results suggest that Cannabis Fructus was helpful in improving exercise capacity and cognitive function on Chronic hypoperfusion induced Vascular Dementia rats. However Cannabis Fructus affects the liver and kidney, therefore suggest that this is an area for further study.

Tabebuia avellanedae 추출물의 운동능력 향상 효과 (Stimulatory Effects of Extracts of Inner Bark from Tabebuia avellanedae on Exercise Endurance Capacity)

  • 능소화과인 Tabebuia avellanedae인 타히보는 중앙아메리카와 남아메리카의 아열대 우림지역에서 서식하며 이들은 민간 약제로 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구는 타히보 추출물의 라디칼 소거활성에 기초한 항산화 활성과 운동능력 향상 효과에 대한 활성을 검토하였다. 타히보로부터 얻은 두 추출물 타히보 열수 추출물(TAW)과 타히보 80% 에탄올 추출물(TAE)의 운동능력 향상 효과와 총 폴리페놀과 플라보노이드 함량과 항산화 활성을 평가하였다. 운동능력 향상 효과는 TAW가 대조군 대비 2.0배, TAE는 1.8배 증가하였다. 두 추출물의 항산화 활성은 라디칼 소거활성(DPPH와 ABTS)으로 평가하였다. 동일 농도에서 TAE는 TAW와 비교하여 라디칼 소거활성이 높게 났고 TAE의 총 폴리페놀 함량이 항산화 활성과 연관되어 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 운동으로 인한 산화스트레스를 방어함으로써 마우스의 운동능력 향상 효과를 나타낸 것으로 사료된다.

등속성 운동과 복합 운동이 퇴행성 슬관절염 여성의 근기능, 균형능력, 기능적 능력 및 관절기능상태에 미치는 영향 (The Isokinetic exercise and effects of combined exercises on the change of postural control, functional status in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined exercise on the change of postural control, functional status in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods : The subjects were consisted of 24 women patients fifties and sixties with knee osteoarthritis. Each group had a exercise for 30 minutes per day and three times a week during 8 weeks period. Was used to measure muscular function(60, $180^{\circ}/sec$), postural control. functional capacity(15 M walking test, Rising form a chair test, stair climbing and descending test) and the functional state of a joint(WOMAC). Results: This study results in following 1. In case of muscular function have significantly increased in both groups. 2. There was no significant difference in the postural control of the bilateral between two groups. However, the postural control of a isokinetic exercise program group showed a significant difference in the bilateral side(overall, $M{\cdot}L$ stability index). Especially, the change of postural control in the isokinetic plus postural control exercise program group decreased more significantly in the bilateral(overall, $A{\cdot}P$ stability index). 3 It was significantly decreased in climbing and descending the stairs, and rising from the chair, although functional capacity decreased in lam walking in both groups. 4. The functional state of a joint(WOMAC) showed a significant decrease in both groups. Conclusion : In order to improve the functional status and postural control of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, performing exercise programming of isokinetic plus balance will be more effective than the exercise program composed of only the isokinetic exercise program.

건강교육을 포함한 신장운동 및 레크레이션 운동이 여성노인의 체력 및 정서에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of the Stretching and Recreation Exercise Including Health Education on Physical Fitness and Emotion of Women in Elderly)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the stretching and recreation exercise including health education on physical fitness and emotion of women in elderly. This study has been done between February and April, 2004 and the subjects of the study were 28 women in elderly. Each of stretching and recreation exercise was carried out for 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week for 8 weeks and health education was carried out for 30 minutes a day, 2 times a week for 8 weeks. Vital capacity, flexibility, balance and grip strength were measured using the Health Management System developed by the Korea Physical Science Institution. The scores of depression, anxiety and hostility were measured by Korean Manual of Symptoms-Checklist -90 revision. The collected data were processed using the SPSS PC program and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test The result of this study are as follows : 1. Flexibility was increased after 8 weeks more than before stretching and recreation exercise including health education were done. 2. Vital capacity, balance and grip strength were not increased after 8 weeks more than before stretching and recreation exercise including health education were done. 3. The score of anxiety, depression and hostility was decreased after 8 weeks less than before stretching and recreation exercise including health education was done. In conclusion, stretching and recreation exercise including health education promoted the flexibility and decreased anxiety, depression and hostility of women in elderly.
