Spreadsheet-based Educational Method for Management Science (스프레드시트를 기반으로 한 새로운 경영과학 강의 방식)

  • New attempt has been made on Management Science (MS) education since the end of 1990s. The most distinctive feature of the new attempt is using spreadsheet program like Excel as a teaching tool for MS course. The spreadsheet program gives an excellent tool for modeling and solvina MS problems. In order to improve the pedagogical effect through using the spreadsheet program for MS course, new teaching model based on spreadsheet encompassing new course contents, effective instruction method, and examination method is needed. For this purpose, professors teaching MS should share their own teaching experiences and methods. So this paper explains remarkable functions of Excel and how to use them for the MS tools. This paper also stresses the importance of team project and case study to improve the effect of MS education through the use of Excel and presents some tips on MS education.

  • The law of large numbers, central limit theorem, and connection among binomial distribution, normal distribution, and statistical estimation require dynamics of continuous visualization for students' better understanding of the concepts. During this visualization process, the differences and similarities between statistical probability and mathematical probability that students should observe need to be provided with the intermediate steps in the converging process. We propose a visualization method that can integrate intermediate processes and results through Excel. In this process, students' experiences with dynamic visualization help them to perceive that the results are continuously changed and extracted from multiple situations. Considering modeling as a key process, we developed a classroom exercise using Excel to estimate the population mean and standard deviation by using a sample mean computed from a collection of data out of the population through sampling.

  • For the strategic management of the small and/or mid sized clinics, the introduction of the clinic information system is necessary. Currently there are not many information systems for the clinics, yet. In this study, we have developed a clinic information system (CLINSYS) as a guiding prototype and suggested the development directions of the total integrated clinic decision support system. For the better user interface and easy communication. the object-oriented language Macintosh Hyper-Card and Excel are used as the developing tools. And as a part of the integrated decision system, an expert system to consult about the urine test and the blood test interpretation has been developed using the Macintosh spreadsheet Excel.

  • We used SAS program in statistics class as a plan to increase effect of class. Because lease cost of SAS program is high and low-level students felt difficulty of the syntax of SAS program, I planned to introduce other instruction-software. We observe whether it's O.K. to use Excel instead of SAS program and Excel is helpful in having positive attitudes. We try to compare and analyze the merits of two programs. The purpose of this study is to apply Excel to statistics class, cut down the cost of instruction-software, and make students understand statistics more conveniently and easily.

  • In this paper, I'm tying to define the connection of the Device Characteristics and the Error Terms, and yield maximum estimated value of the mismatching errors by modeling the individual devices with signal-flow graph, and by seeking the transfer function of the system with the mismatching error in the combination of the devices using the Signal-flow Graph Gain Formula.

Through the study, this research suggests main issues of building and operating logistic systems and the effective way of utilizing the systems in SMB logistics companies.

  • ICT는 21세기 지식기반사회에서 교육효과를 증대시킬 수 있는 강력한 도구라는 여러 가지 이유로 ICT 활용교육이 중시되어 왔었고, 학교 현장에서는 ICT를 활용한 교수 학습이 활발하게 도입되었다. 그 중 Excel은 뛰어난 수식 계산과 논리 판단 기능을 갖추고 있어서 간단한 계산에서부터 함수를 이용한 복잡한 수식 작성과 문자의 연산, 데이터의 비교 분석과 그래프를 통한 통계처리까지 거의 모든 종류의 계산을 할 수 있다는 점에서 수학과에서 그 가능성이 제시되어 왔다. 그러나 기존의 연구는 대부분 중 고등학교 수학과에 한정되어 있어 초등학교에서 활용하기에는 무리가 있었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 수학과에서의 Excel 활용 수업을 적용하기에 적합한 학습 주제를 선택하여 학생들이 계산하는데 걸리는 시간보다는 문제해결을 위한 사고에 중점을 둔 문제해결 수업모형을 개발하여 적용해 보기로 하였다.

Excel macro for applying Bayes' rule (베이즈 법칙의 활용을 위한 엑셀 매크로)

  • The prior distribution is the probability distribution we have before observing data. Using Bayes' rule, we can compute the posterior distribution, the new probability distribution, after observing data. Computing the posterior distribution is much easier than before by using Excel VBA macro. In addition, we can conveniently compute the successive updating posterior distributions after observing the independent and sequential outcomes. In this paper we compose some Excel VBA macros for applying Bayes' rule and give some examples.

  • The purpose of this study is to search the effective teaching-learning program by considering how affect on formation of the process-object perspective of linear function using Excel. In this study we analyzed function units in textbook and examined how Excel affect on the formation of the process-object perspective of linear function. Teaching experiment was based on qualitative case study and performed for five classes with five 8th graders. Data were gathered through observations, audio-taped interviews, video recording of the students 'work, students' worksheets, and detailed field notes. Findings indicate that exploration learning environment using Excel could supplement paper-and-pencil environment. We found that intuitive, dynamic, explorative, feedback skills via Excel can play the role of scaffolding supporting formation of process perspective object perspective of linear function.
