  • The purpose of this study was to investigate eating habits and patterns in accordance with the mental health status in Korea. Data from the fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2010-2012 by the CDCP were used to target 19-year-olds. A total of 15,484 subjects (6,348 men and 9,500 women) were enrolled in this study. The collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, cross-analysis, and multiple logistic regression analysis. The results revealed that men showed, with linear tendency, a decrease in stress and suicidal ideation with an increase in the number of meals. (p<.05). Women also showed, with linear tendency, that an increase in the number of meals resulted in a reduction of stress, depression, and suicidal ideation (p<.05). The stress level of women decreased by 0.667 times when they ate two meals rather than one time meal per day. If women ate three meals compared with one meal per day, stress, depression, and suicidal ideation were reduced by 0.522, 0.605, and 0.508 times, respectively (p<.05). It was found that Aa regular eating habit may have an impact on stress, depression, and suicidal ideation. Moreover, irregular meals, brought on by modern influences, could have a negative impact on mental health, leading to social and economic losses. These results suggest that we need to educate and promote awareness on proper eating habits.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study examined the association of depressive symptoms, stress perception, and suicidal ideation with overall dietary quality using the newly developed Korean healthy eating index (KHEI). SUBJECTS/METHODS: This study included 9,607 adults (3,939 men and 5,668 women, ≥ 19 years) who participated in the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013 and 2015. The KHEI scores were calculated using the food frequency questionnaire data. Survey logistic regression analyses were performed to analyze the association between psychiatric distress and dietary quality. RESULTS: The percentage of subjects with experience of depressive mood, higher stress perception, and suicidal ideation was 8.2%, 25.0%, and 3.7% in men and 15.4%, 27.3%, and 6.0% in women, respectively. The mean KHEI score was 61.5 ± 0.29 in men and 64.8 ± 0.24 in women (P < 0.001). The present study found a difference in the adherence to specific dietary components of the KHEI between sexes. Men experiencing depressive symptoms were less likely to eat meat, fish, eggs, and beans, while depressed women showed lower vegetable intake. Both men and women with suicidal ideation showed a lower intake of vegetables. The men with stress had a lower breakfast eating score than those without stress (7.21 vs. 6.77, P = 0.016). The multivariate-adjusted odds ratios for depressive symptoms, stress perception, and the suicidal idea in women with the highest quartile of KHEI scores compared to the lowest quartile was 0.69 (95% confidence interval, 0.51-0.92), 0.73 (0.58-0.82), and 0.52 (0.33-0.82), respectively and significant dose-response associations were observed (P for trends < 0.05 for all). On the other hand, these associations were not observed in men after adjusting for the confounding variables (P for trends > 0.05 for all). CONCLUSIONS: Poor adherence to dietary recommendations is associated with psychological distress, especially in women.

  • If the load of constructing vehicles during the construction work acts on the road or the ground surface on the soft ground, due to the excess stresses in soils the trafficability of the vehicles influences the constructing efficiency, constructing period and so on. Stress distribution in soils is the very important element to design and to solve the problems of settlement, safety of foundations and trafficability of constructing vehicle in civil engineering. This research represents the comparative estimation of the actual and theoretical measurement on the underground stress of outer layer for each soil after the observation of each top soil layer for its vertical and horizontal stress in (1)homogeneous sand ground (2) weak stratum with the sand soil (3) weak stratum with gravel of the soil model, and it also investigates the effect of subsidence of ground by the repeated load. The underground stress turn out to be different in the value of theoretical and actual measurement after the trial examination of model.

  • Since the pre flex beam is fabricated by welding, the precompressive stresses that should occur over the concrete pier are diminished by the welding residual stresses. Therefore the welding residual stresses must be relieved during the fabrication. So the analysis and examination of the accurate welding residual stress distribution characteristic are necessary. On this study, accurate distribution of welding residual stress of preflex beam is analyzed by finite element method.

  • Design details pertaining to the connection between some recently developed fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck systems and the supporting girders require openings through cells of the deck. This significantly changes the stress distribution in these components. As a result, the conventional assumptions that deck designs are controlled by their stiffness, and not strength, needs a closer examination. This paper proposes an analytical method to investigate the stress states and failure mechanisms using a type of "global-local" modeling perspective, incorporating classical lamination theory and first ply failure criterion with use of appropriate stress concentration factors around the cutouts. The use of a "smeared-stress" approach is presented as a potential means of simplifying certain FRP specific complexities, while still enabling prediction of overall failure.
