In this paper, a composite material analysis program based on the finite element method(FEM) is used. The purpose of this study was to verify whether the composite material analysis program which developed as part of a project of development of softwares and educational contents for structural vibration and composite material analysis that can calculate how similar the macroscopic mechanical behavior of the composite materials actually. Because composite materials are generally anisotropic, analysis of composite laminate is used for the constitutive equations of orthotropic material. For convenience, the unit is ommited in all calculations. To verify the accuracy of the finite element method based program, the deflection and stress distribution of the simply supported composite material laminated plate subjected to a uniform load distribution is compared with exact solution. Size and properties of the composite material laminate used for analysis are fixed variables, and by changing the number of elements and the total thickness of the laminate is compared with the exact solution to the resulting value, respectively.
The problem of very large deflection of a circular cantilever arc device subjected to inward or outward polar force is studied. An exact elliptic integral solution is derived for the two cases and the results are checked using large displacement finite element analysis via the ANSYS package by performing a new novel modeling simulation technique for this problem. Excellent agreements have been obtained between the exact analytical solution and the numerical approach. From this study, a design chart for engineers is developed to predict the required value for the inward polar force for the device to switch on for a given angle forming the circular arc (${\theta}_o$). This study has several interesting applications in mechanical engineering, integrated circuit technology, nanotechnology and especially in microelectromechanical systems (MEMs) such as a MEM circular device switch subjected to attractive or repulsive magnetic forces due to the attachments of two magnetic poles at the fixed and at the free end of the circular cantilever arc switch device.

Ramik[7] introduced a fuzzy goal programming (FGP)problem that generalizes a standard goal programming (GP) problem with fuzzy alternatives, fuzzy objective functions and fuzzy deviation functions for measuring the deviation between attained and desired goals being fuzzy. However, it is known that this FGP tends to produce an approximate solution since it uses an approximate fuzzy multiplication operation to solve the resultant fuzzy model. In this paper, we show that this FGP sometimes leads to the wrong decision. We also propose a procedure that gets the exact solution to overcome these problems. The method is based on $T_M$ (min norm)-based fuzzy operations using $\alpha-cut$ representations. We consider the same example as used in Ramik and investigate how our procedures are compared to Ramik's.
This paper examines the problem of a penny-shaped crack in a thermoporoelastic body. On the basis of the recently developed general solutions for thermoporoelasticity, appropriate potentials are suggested and the governing equations are solved in view of the similarity to those for pure elasticity. Exact and closed form fundamental solutions are expressed in terms of elementary functions. The singularity behavior is then discussed. The present solutions are compared with those in literature and an excellent agreement is achieved. Numerical calculations are performed to show the influence of the material parameters upon the distribution of the thermoporoelastic field. Due to its ideal property, the present solution is a natural benchmark to various numerical codes and simplified analyses.

An exact solution procedure is formulated for the free vibration and buckling analysis of rectangular plates having two opposite edges simply supported when these edges are subjected to linearly varying normal stresses. The other two edges may be clamped, simply supported or free, or they may be elastically supported. The transverse displacement (w) is assumed as sinusoidal in the direction of loading (x), and a power series is assumed in the lateral (y) direction (i.e., the method of Frobenius). Applying the boundary conditions yields the eigenvalue problem of finding the roots of a fourth order characteristic determinant. Care must be exercised to obtain adequate convergence for accurate vibration frequencies and buckling loads, as is demonstrated by two convergence tables. Some interesting and useful results for vibration frequencies and buckling loads, and their mode shapes, are presented for a variety of edge conditions and in-plane loadings, especially pure in-plane moments.
A sea/land breeze circulation system and a regional scale circulation system are formed at a region which has complex terrain around coastal area and affect to the dispersion and advection of air pollutants. Therefore, it is important that atmospheric circulation model should be well designed for the simulation of regional dispersion of air pollutants. For this, Local Circulation Model, LCM which has an ability of high resolution is used. To verify the propriety of a LCM, we compared the simulation result of LCM with an exact solution of a linear theory over a simple topography. Since they presented almost the same value and pattern of a vertical velocity at the level of 1 km, we had a reliance of a LCM. For the prediction of dispersion and advection of air pollutants, the wind filed should be calculated with high accuracy. A numerical simulation using LCM will provide more accurate results over a complex terrain around coastal area.
A hybrid finite difference method for the longitudinal dispersion equation, which is based on combining the Holly-Preissmann scheme with fifth-degree Hermite interpolating polynomial and the generalized Crank-Nicholson scheme, is described and comparatively evaluated with other characteristics-based numerical methods. Longitudinal dispersion of an instantaneously-loaded pollutant source is simulated, and computational results are compared with the exact solution. The present method is free from wiggles regardless of the Courant number, and exactly reproduces the location of the peak concentration. Overall accuracy of the computation increases for smaller value of the weighting factor, $\theta$of the model. Larger values of $\theta$ overestimates the peak concentration. Smaller Courant number yields better accuracy, in general, but the sensitivity is very low, especially when the value of $\theta$ is small. From comparisons with the hybrid method using cubic interpolating polynomial and with splitoperator methods, the present method shows the best performance in reproducing the exact solution as the advection becomes more dominant.
In this work, we extend the previously developed split kinetic energy (dubbed KEP) method by Mineo and Chao (2012) by modifying the mass parameter to include the negative mass. We first show how to separate the total system into the subsystems with 3 attractive delta potentials by using the KEP method. For repulsive delta potentials, we introduce "negative" mass terms. Two cases are demonstrated using the "negative" mass terms for repulsive delta potential problems in quantum mechanics. Our work shows that the KEP solution scheme can be used to obtain not only the exact energies but also the exact wavefunctions very precisely.
This paper aims to analyze the dynamic response of a double nanobeam system with a medium viscoelastic layer under a moving load. The governing equations are based on the Eringen nonlocal theory. A thin viscoelastic layer has coupled two nanobeams together. An exact solution is derived for each nanobeam, and the dynamic deflection is achieved. The effect of parameters such as nonlocal parameter, velocity of moving load, spring coefficient and the viscoelastic layer damping ratio was studied. The results showed that the effect of the nonlocal parameter is significantly important and the classical theories are not suitable for nano and microstructures.
Dynamic equilibrium equations for finite element analysis were derived for the free field one-dimensional shear wave propagation through the horizontally layered soil deposits with the elastic half-space. We expressed Rayleigh's viscous damping consisting of mass and stiffness proportional terms. We considered two cases where damping matrices are defined in the total and relative displacement fields. Two forms of equilibrium equations are presented; one in terms of total motions and the other in terms of relative motions. To evaluate the performance of new equilibrium equations, we conducted two sets of site response analyses and directly compared them with the exact closed-form frequency domain solution. Results show that the base shear force as earthquake load represents the simpler form of equilibrium equation to be used for the finite element method. Conventional finite element procedure using base acceleration as earthquake load predicts exact solution reasonably well even in soil deposits with unrealistically high damping.
