General Principles in Phonomicrosugery (후두미세수술의 기본 원칙)

  • The origin and growth of laryngology is inseparably linked to the development of endoscopic surgery of the larynx. Phonomicrosurgery is a means of maximally preserving the layered microstructure of the vocal fold, that is, the epithelium and lamina propria. Phonomicrosurgery has developed from convergence of micro laryngoscopic surgical technique theory and the mucosal wave theory of laryngeal sound production. Improvements in technology (i.e., laryngoscopes, handled instruments, and lasers), which in part arise from developments in more frequently performed minimally invasive surgical procedures, will probably facilitate the next generation of procedural innovations. The best methods of optimizing phonosurgical outcomes include making an accurate diagnosis, completing a comprehensive voice evaluation, providing sufficient preoperative therapy, carefully selecting patients to undergo phonomicrosurgical procedures, and requiring sufficient postoperative rest and therapy. Phonomicrosurgery will continue to evolve as a result of the interdependent collaboration of surgeons with voice scientists, speech pathologist, and other voice professionals.

  • Recently, data security and convenience are critical requirements to the interaction and collaboration of tourism service systems for the tourism industry. However, there are still many challenges for current tourism service systems to fulfill these requirements since they have inconsistent structures with different access control models and security policies. Blockchain has the potential to evolve the conventional tourism industry benefiting by its unique features such as data privacy and transparency. This paper mainly aims the interworking mechanism of heterogenous blockchain platforms for secure tourism service. We propose interworking scheme to connect multi-blockchain platforms for enhancing data integrity in the tourism industry. A proof of concept design and implement based on Hyperledger Fabric and Winding Tree.

A Kinetic Study on the Adsorptionof Compact, Water-soluble Proteins onto Aqueous Surfaces

  • Two compact sized globular proteins, β-lactoglobulin and α-lactalbumin were kinetically characterized at the aqueous solution surface with the measurement of surface pressure (π) and surface concentration (Γ) via a radiotracer method. The adsorption kinetics was of diffusion control at early times, the rates of increase of πand Γ being lower at longer times due to growing energy barrier. At low concentrations, an apparent time lag was observed in the evolution of π for β-lactoglobulin but not for α-lactalbumin which was shown to be due to the non-linear nature of the p- G relationship for the former. The area per molecule of an adsorbed β-lactoglobulin during adsorption was smaller than that for spread monolayer since β-lactoglobulin was not fully unfolded during the adsorption. For α-lactalbumin, however, no such difference in the molecular areas for adsorbed and spread monolayer was observed indicating thereby that α-lactalbumin unfolded much more rapidly (has looser tertiary structure) than β-lactoglobulin. Surface excess concentrations of α-lactalbumin was found to evolve in two steps possibly due to the change in the orientation of the adsorbed protein from a side-on to an end-on orientation.

Reconnecting the Dots for the Payment Service Directive 2 - Compatible Asian Financial Network

  • Unlike the popular belief, digital transformation mainly gets stymied by legal and regulatory issues related with legacy institutions in Asia rather than technical difficulties. The real challenges triggered by the PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) are how the region would overcome the overly fragmented, centralized, and hierarchical legacy framework to allow necessary changes to respond to the digital single market initiatives as promulgated by the European counterpart. The PSD2 is expected to bring about substantial changes in the payment ecosystem by allowing payment service providers to access customers' accounts and transactions information via API that have been traditionally controlled by banks. This paper suggests an incentive-compatible mechanism design for open collaboration among legacy institutions in the region to help them adapt to the PSD2. As evidenced by case studies in Korea, the Asian equivalent of PSD2 can be implemented and further expanded to create region-wide PCS (payment-clearing-settlement) network by reconnecting the dots of legacy infrastructures. These decentralized, diverse, small payment networks can be further combined with the expanded RTGS-CDS platform to evolve into the next phase of Asian Financial Network.

Exploring the Social Proxemics of Human-Drone Interaction

  • Drones will evolve from military to personal or social purposes. How can people socially interact with a drone that is familiar to them? This study explored the social proximity of human drone interaction with safety glass wall between participants and drone. The experiment results showed that drone's altitude, size and gender factor did not significantly affect social proxemics as to what extent participants got closer to hovering drones by the limitation of the distance from the safety wall. However, it shows a tendency that participants more closely approached an eye-level drone compared with an overhead drone, and females tended to approach more closely males. This study consequently demonstrated that most participants are nearly ready to allow a near field operation of social drone under safe conditions.

  • As the online media continues to evolve and the mobile computing environment has improved dramatically, the distribution of Internet information has rapidly changed from one-sided to consumer-oriented. Therefore, measuring the interest of Internet information has become an important issue for suppliers and consumers. In this paper, we analyze the Internet information interest by analyzing the duration of real - time query by collecting data for one month by implementing real - time search word provided by domestic Internet information provider.

Top-Heavy Initial Mass Function of Star Clusters near the Galactic Centre

  • Star clusters are important in understanding star formation. In star-forming regions, the number of stars with mass forms with an initial mass function (IMF), i.e. Chabrier, Salpeter, Kroupa, etc. In our simulations, initially sub-virial fractal star clusters evolve to become surviving sub-regions in strong tidal fields. We investigate the slope of the mass function (MF) of these sub-regions with time near the Galactic centre (GC). These sub-regions would appear to have a top-heavy IMF at ~ 2 Myr. Therefore, although our star-forming region near the GC has a normal IMF, stars in surviving 'clusters' can have a top-heavy 'IMF' due to the violent environment.

  • Techniques to recognize depth values using Kinect infrared projectors continue to evolve. Techniques to track human movements are being developed from the Marcris method to the Bimarris method. Capture of facial movement using Kinect has disadvantages that are not sophisticated. In addition, a method to control the gestures and movements on the face in real time requires much research. Therefore, this paper proposes a technique to create natural 3D image contents by studying technology to apply and control branding technology to extracted face recognition data using Kinect infrared method.

New framework for adaptive and agile honeypots

  • This paper proposes a new framework for the development and deployment of honeypots for evolving malware threats. As new technological concepts appear and evolve, attack surfaces are exploited. Internet of things significantly increases the attack surface available to malware developers. Previously independent devices are becoming accessible through new hardware and software attack vectors, and the existing taxonomies governing the development and deployment of honeypots are inadequate for evolving malicious programs and their variants. Malware-propagation and compromise methods are highly automated and repetitious. These automated and repetitive characteristics can be exploited by using embedded reinforcement learning within a honeypot. A honeypot for automated and repetitive malware (HARM) can be adaptive so that the best responses may be learnt during its interaction with attack sequences. HARM deployments can be agile through periodic policy evaluation to optimize redeployment. The necessary enhancements for adaptive, agile honeypots require a new development and deployment framework.

  • Pneumonia is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly in old adults. The incidence and etiologic distribution of community-acquired pneumonia is variable both geographically and temporally, and epidemiology might evolve with the change of population characteristics and vaccine uptake rates. With the increasing prevalence of chronic medical conditions, a wide spectrum of healthcare-associated pneumonia could also affect the epidemiology of community-acquired pneumonia. Here, we provide an overview of the epidemiological changes associated with community-acquired pneumonia over the decades since pneumococcal conjugate vaccine introduction.
