Pyeongan Supergroup (PS) in the Taebaeksan basin preserves key geological evidences to understand the tectonometamorphic evolution of the Songrim orogeny that affected the formation of the Korean Peninsula during the late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic. The aims of this paper therefore are to investigate the characteristics of the Songrim orogeny based on the previous results of metamorphism and deformations of the PS, and then to review geological significance and research necessity of the PS. Age distributions and Th/U ratio of detrital zircon in the PS indicate that sedimentary environment of the Taebaeksan basin during the late Paleozoic was arc-related foreland basin and retro-arc foreland basin at the active continental margin. In addition, the main magmatic activities occurred in the early Pennsylvanian and Middle Permian, thus sedimentation and magmatic activities occurred simultaneously. The PS was affected by lower temperature-medium pressure (M1) and medium temperature and pressure (M2) regional metamorphism during the Songrim orogeny. During M1, slate and phyllite containing chloritoid, andalusite, kyanite porphyroblasts intensively deformed by E-W bulk crustal shortening combined with folding and shearing. And garnet and staurolite porphyroblasts were formed during the N-S bulk crustal shortening accompained by M2. Such regional metamorphism of the PS is interpreted to occur in an area where high strain zone is localized during ca. 220-270 Ma. In order to elucidate the evolution of the Taebaeksan basin and tectonic features of the Songrim orogeny, it is expected that the study will be carried out such as the regional distribution of metamorphic zones developed in the PS, characteristics and timing of deformations, and late Paleozoic paleo-geography of the Taebaeksan basin.

Calcium phosphates such as hydroxyapatite (HAp), tricalcium phosphate (${\beta}$-TCP), and biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP, HAp/${\beta}$-TCP) have been prepared via hydrothermal treatment. The synthesis was conducted by reacting ($Ca(OH)_2$) aqueous solution with phosphoric acid ($H_3PO_4$) under different hydrothermal synthesis conditions (temperatures up to $150^{\circ}C$ and pH lower than 12). The effects of initial precursor Ca/P ratio (1.30, 1.50 and 1.67) and post heat treatment on the phase evolution behavior of the powders and sintered ceramics were investigated. The phases of resulting powders and sintered ceramics were controllable by adjusting the initial Ca/P ratio. A single HAp phase without any noticeable second phase was obtained for the initial Ca/P ratio of 1.67 in the overall heat treatment range. Pure ${\beta}$-TCP and biphasic calcium phosphate (HAp/${\beta}$-TCP) were synthesized from precursor solutions having Ca/P molar ratios of 1.30 and 1.50, respectively, after having been heat treated at $900^{\circ}C$ or higher. Dense ceramics with translucency were obtained at considerably lower sintering temperatures.
The Sr isotope ratio, which is used as basic data for rock formation time, crustal and mantle evolution studies, is determined by mass spectrometer such as thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) or multi-detector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). In this technical report, we compared how incomplete chemical separation of elements affects the determination of Sr isotope ratios. For the experiment, commercial resin, NBS987(NIST SRM987) Sr isotope standard, and rock standard samples from the Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ) such as JG1a, JB3 and JA1 were used. As a result of the comparative experiment, it was clearly observed that the measured values of 87Sr/86Sr change when Rb remains due to incomplete separation of the NBS987 Sr isotope standard sample as well as the rock standard samples of GSJ. This indicates that complete separation is an important factor since the calculated value deviates from the true value even though correction for isotope interference by isobar is performed when measuring the isotope ratio with MC-ICP-MS. This also suggests that, when reporting the measurement result of Sr isotope ratio using MC-ICP-MS, the measurement strength of 85Rb should be reported together with the measurement strength of all isotopes of Sr so that isotope interference by isobar can be judged.
A new hybrid oedometer cell is designed and manufactured to investigate a behavior of soft soils by using elastic and electromagnetic waves during consolidation test. Bender elements, which generate and detect shear waves, are placed in the top cap and the bottom plate and mounted on the oedometer wall. Double wedge type electrical resistance probe, which measures local void ratio change, is positioned onto the top cap of the oedometer cell. The bender elements and the electrical resistance probe are anchored into a nylon set screw with epoxy resin. The nylon set screw with epoxy resin minimizes directly transmited elastic waves through the oedometer cell due to impedence mismatch and allows for easy replacement of defected bender elements and electrical resistance probe. Primary consolidation time can be estimated from the slope of electrical resistance versus log time curve and the evolution of shear wave velocity. The shear wave velocity can be used to assess inherent anisotropy when disturbance effects are minimized because particle alignment affects the shear wave velocity. The void ratios evaluated by the electrical resistance probe are similar to those by the settlement during consolidation. This study suggests that the shear wave velocity and the electrical resistance can provide complementary imformations to understand consolidation characteristics such as primary consolidation, anisotropy, and void ratio.

A comprehensive numerical study is carried out to investigate for the understanding of the flow evolution and flame development in a supersonic combustor with normal injection of ncumally injecting hydrogen in airsupersonic flows. The formulation treats the complete conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy, and species concentration for a multi-component chemically reacting system. For the numerical simulation of supersonic combustion, multi-species Navier-Stokes equations and detailed chemistry of H2-Air is considered. It also accommodates a finite-rate chemical kinetics mechanism of hydrogen-air combustion GRI-Mech. 2.11[1], which consists of nine species and twenty-five reaction steps. Turbulence closure is achieved by means of a k-two-equation model (2). The governing equations are spatially discretized using a finite-volume approach, and temporally integrated by means of a second-order accurate implicit scheme (3-5).The supersonic combustor consists of a flat channel of 10 cm height and a fuel-injection slit of 0.1 cm width located at 10 cm downstream of the inlet. A cavity of 5 cm height and 20 cm width is installed at 15 cm downstream of the injection slit. A total of 936160 grids are used for the main-combustor flow passage, and 159161 grids for the cavity. The grids are clustered in the flow direction near the fuel injector and cavity, as well as in the vertical direction near the bottom wall. The no-slip and adiabatic conditions are assumed throughout the entire wall boundary. As a specific example, the inflow Mach number is assumed to be 3, and the temperature and pressure are 600 K and 0.1 MPa, respectively. Gaseous hydrogen at a temperature of 151.5 K is injected normal to the wall from a choked injector.A series of calculations were carried out by varying the fuel injection pressure from 0.5 to 1.5MPa. This amounts to changing the fuel mass flow rate or the overall equivalence ratio for different operating regimes. Figure 1 shows the instantaneous temperature fields in the supersonic combustor at four different conditions. The dark blue region represents the hot burned gases. At the fuel injection pressure of 0.5 MPa, the flame is stably anchored, but the flow field exhibits a high-amplitude oscillation. At the fuel injection pressure of 1.0 MPa, the Mach reflection occurs ahead of the injector. The interaction between the incoming air and the injection flow becomes much more complex, and the fuel/air mixing is strongly enhanced. The Mach reflection oscillates and results in a strong fluctuation in the combustor wall pressure. At the fuel injection pressure of 1.5MPa, the flow inside the combustor becomes nearly choked and the Mach reflection is displaced forward. The leading shock wave moves slowly toward the inlet, and eventually causes the combustor-upstart due to the thermal choking. The cavity appears to play a secondary role in driving the flow unsteadiness, in spite of its influence on the fuel/air mixing and flame evolution. Further investigation is necessary on this issue. The present study features detailed resolution of the flow and flame dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the previous works. In particular, the oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is not related to the cavity, but rather to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flowfield, as also shown experimentally by Ben-Yakar et al. [6], The interactions between the unsteady flow and flame evolution may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The work appears to be the first of its kind in the numerical study of combustion oscillations in a supersonic combustor, although a similar phenomenon was previously reported experimentally. A more comprehensive discussion will be given in the final paper presented at the colloquium.
Given the evolution of High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor(HTGR) designs, the source terms for licensing must be developed. There are three potential source terms: fission products, actinides in the fuel and tritium in the coolant. It is necessary to provide first an inventory of the source terms under normal operations. An analysis of source terms has yet to be performed for HTGRs. The previous code, which can estimate the inventory of the source terms for LWRs, cannot be used for HTGRs because the general data of a typical neutron cross-section and flux has not been developed. Thus, this paper uses a combination of the MCNP, ORIGEN, and MONTETEBURNS codes for an estimation of the source terms. A method in which the HTR-10 core is constructed using the unit lattice of a body-centered cubic is developed for core modeling. Based on this modeling method by MCNP, the generation of fission products, actinides and tritium with an increase in the burnup ratio is simulated. The model developed by MCNP appears feasible through a comparison with models developed in previous studies. Continuous fuel management is divided into five periods for the feeding and discharging of fuel pebbles. This discrete fuel management scheme is employed using the MONTEBURNS code. Finally, the work is investigated for 22 isotope fission products of nuclides, 22 actinides in the core, and tritium in the coolant. The activities are mainly distributed within the range of $10^{15}{\sim}10^{17}$ Bq in the equilibrium core of HTR-10. The results appear to be highly probable, and they would be informative when the spent fuel of HTGRs is taken into account. The tritium inventory in the primary coolant is also taken into account without a helium purification system. This article can lay a foundation for future work on analyses of source terms as a platform for safety assessment in HTGRs.

In this paper, a three-dimensional hydrogen desorption model is developed to precisely study the hydrogen desorption kinetics and resultant heat and mass transport phenomena in metal hydride hydrogen storage vessels. The metal hydride hydrogen desorption model, i.e. governed by the conservation of mass, momentum, and thermal energy is first experimentally validated against the temperature evolution data measured on a cylindrical $LaNi_5$ metal hydride vessel. The equilibrium pressure used for hydrogen desorption simulations is derived as a function of H/M atomic ratio and temperature based on the experimental data in the literature. The numerical simulation results agree well with experimental data and the 3D desorption model successfully captures key experimental trends during hydrogen desorption process. Both the simulation and experiment display an initial sharp decrease in the temperature mainly caused by relatively slow heat supply rate from the vessel external wall. On the other hand, the effect of heat supply becomes influential at the latter stages, leading to smooth increase in the vessel temperature in both simulation and experiment. This numerical study provides the fundamental understanding of detailed heat and mass transfer phenomena during hydrogen desorption process and further indicates that efficient design of storage vessel and heating system is critical to achieve fast hydrogen discharging performance.

The closed-loop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system has been adopted by long term evolution (LTE) system. Many techniques are proposed to enhance the transmission of LTE's advanced version to meet the increasing requirement, in which differential codebook gains a lot of interest. Previous researches on designing differential codebooks focused on quasi-diagonal unitary matrix which cannot guarantee the equal gain property. The equal gain property is very important to uplink because the performance of uplink is very sensitive to the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In this paper, we derive the analytical expression of average bit error rate and PAPR for differential precoding MIMO system. Using the analytical results, we investigate the performances of several differential precoding schemes considering non-linear amplifier at the transmitter. Some selected simulation results indicate that the conventional differential precoding schemes have good performances without the consideration of non-linear amplifier. While considering non-linear amplifier, the proposed differential codebook outperforms other differential precoding schemes because it maintains the equal gain per transmit antenna.
Nickel-copper foam electrodes with pore gradient micro framework and nano-ramified wall have been prepared by using an electrochemical deposition process. Growth habit of nickel-copper co-deposits was quite different from that of pure nickel deposit. In particular, the ramified structure of the individual particles was getting clear with chloride ion content in the electrolyte. The ratio of nickel to copper in the deposits decreased with the distance away from the substrate and the more chloride ions in the electrolyte led to the more nickel content throughout the deposits. Compositional analysis for the cross section of a ramified branch, together with tactical selective copper etching, proved that the copper content increased with approaching central region of the cross section. Such a composition gradient actually disappeared after heat treatment. It is anticipated that the pore gradient nickel-copper nanostructured foams presented in this work might be a promising option for the high-performance electrode in functional electrochemical devices.
According to the development of artificial intelligence technology, attempts have been made to interpret phenomena in various fields of the real world such as economic, social, and scientific fields through computer simulations using virtual artificial agents. In the existing artificial agent-based bargaining game analysis, there was a problem that did not reflect the cost incurred when the stage progresses in the real-world bargaining game and the depreciation of the bargaining target over time. This study intends to observe the effect on the bargaining game by adding the cost incurred in the bargaining stage and depreciation of the bargaining target over time (bargaining cost) to the previous artificial agent-based bargaining game model. As a result of the experiment, it was observed that as the cost incurred in the bargaining stage increased, the two artificial agents participating in the game had a share close to half the ratio and tried to conclude the negotiation in the early stage.
