Optimizing Energy-Latency Tradeoff for Computation Offloading in SDIN-Enabled MEC-based IIoT

  • With the aim of tackling the contradiction between computation intensive industrial applications and resource-weak Edge Devices (EDs) in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), a novel computation task offloading scheme in SDIN-enabled MEC based IIoT is proposed in this paper. With the aim of reducing the task accomplished latency and energy consumption of EDs, a joint optimization method is proposed for optimizing the local CPU-cycle frequency, offloading decision, and wireless and computation resources allocation jointly. Based on the optimization, the task offloading problem is formulated into a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem which is a large-scale NP-hard problem. In order to solve this problem in an accessible time complexity, a sub-optimal algorithm GPCOA, which is based on hybrid evolutionary computation, is proposed. Outcomes of emulation revel that the proposed method outperforms other baseline methods, and the optimization result shows that the latency-related weight is efficient for reducing the task execution delay and improving the energy efficiency.

  • This paper proposes a design of self-tuning fuzzy controller based on evolutionary computation. Optimal membership functions are found by using evolutionary computation. Genetic algorithms and evolution strategy are used for tuning of fuzzy membership function. An arbitrarily speed trajectory is selected to show the performance of the proposed methods. Experiment results show the good performance in the DC motor control system with the self-tuning fuzzy controller based on evolutionary computation.

  • This paper shows the design of a levitation magnet for an OLED system which has a large air gap. Evolution strategy was adopted for the optimization of the magnet system. During the optimization process, interpolation of levitation force was used to reduce the computation time which was needed to calculate the levitation force. Object function for optimization was total weight of the magnet system.

  • 근래에 진화 연산을 활용한 교섭 게임의 분석은 게임 이론 분야에서 중요한 문제로 다루어지고 있다. 본 논문은 교섭 게임에서 진화 연산을 사용하여 이기종 인공 에이전트 간의 상호 작용 및 공진화 과정을 조사하였다. 교섭게임에 참여하는 진화전략 에이전트들로서 유전자 알고리즘(GA), 입자군집최적화(PSO) 및 차분진화알고리즘(DE) 3종류를 사용하였다. GA-agent, PSO-agent 및 DE-agent의 3가지 인공 에이전트들 간의 공진화 실험을 통해 교섭게임에서 가장 성능이 우수한 진화 계산 에이전트가 무엇인지 관찰 실험하였다. 시뮬레이션 실험결과, PSO-agent가 가장 성능이 우수하고 그 다음이 GA-agent이며 DE-agent가 가장 성능이 좋지 않다는 것을 확인하였다. PSO-agent가 교섭 게임에서 성능이 가장 우수한 이유를 이해하기 위해서 게임 완료 후 인공 에이전트 전략들을 관찰하였다. PSO-agent는 거래 실패로 인해 보수를 얻지 못하는 것을 감수하고서라도 가급적 많은 보수를 얻기 위한 방향으로 진화하였다는 것을 확인하였으며, 반면에 GA-agent와 DE-agent는 소량의 보수를 얻더라도 거래를 성공시키는 방향으로 진화하였다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, an Adaptive Evolutionary Computation(AEC) is proposed. AEC uses a genetic algorithm(GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner is order to take merits of two different evolutionary computations: global search capability of GA and local search capability of ES. In the reproduction procedure, proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. AEC is used to design the membership functions and the scaling factors of fuzzy logic controller (FLC). To evaluate the performances of the proposed FLC, we make an experiment on FLC for the speed control of an actual DC series motor system with nonlinear characteristics. Experimental results show that the proposed controller has better performance than that of PD controller.

  • In mechanical design, design process is mainly composed of design, explanation and evaluation. In this paper, Using Genetic Algorithms (GA), Evolutionary computation is introduced as new design process. This method promote the efficiency and power of design. Due to the known characteristics of the stage, the approach basically involves a synthetic design method with the composition of building blocks representing the elements of mechanical objects. In order for the building blocks to be more suitable for representation and evolution of mechanical structures, Elementary Cell Blocks (ECBs) are introduced as new building blocks. In this paper, we have demonstrated the implementation of the approach with the design of gear systems.

  • This paper presents an optimization method for optimal reactive power dispatch which minimizes real power loss and improves voltage profile of power systems using evolutionary computation such as genetic algorithms(GAs), evolutionary programming(EP). and evolution strategy(ES). Many conventional methods to this problem have been proposed in the past, but most these approaches have the common defect of being caught to a local minimum solution. Recently, global search methods such as GAs, EP, and ES are introduced. The proposed methods were applied to the IEEE 30-bus system. Each simulation result, compared with that obtained by using a conventional gradient-based optimization method, Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP), shows the possibility of applications of evolutionary computation to large scale power systems.

  • This paper presents an power system optimization method which solves real and reactive power dispatch problems using evolutionary computation such as genetic algorithms(GAs), evolutionary programming(EP), and evolution strategy(ES). Many conventional methods to this problem have been proposed in the past, but most these approaches have the common defect of being caught to a local minimum solution. Recently, global search methods such as GAs, EP, and ES are introduced. The proposed methods, applied to the IEEE 30-bus system, were run for 12 other exogenous parameters. Each simulation result, by which evolutionary computations are compared and analyzed, shows the possibility of applications of evolutionary computation to large scale power systems.
