  • This study is based on a investigation regarding the evaporation rate of a volatile liquid(methanol, tetrahydrofuran, xylene) according to changes of the temperature and wind. The weight of a volatile liquid was standardized to 24 g and the mixture was formed with the same weight ratio. In order to discover about the effect of the wind velocity, small fan was installed at 10 cm above the entrance and 30 cm away in the direction of the cylinder. The effect of the wind velocity was tested at 0 m/s, 1.63 m/s, 2.03 m/s respectively and the effect of the temperature on the volatile liquid was experimented at the temperature of $21^{\circ}C$, $32^{\circ}C$, $52^{\circ}C$ in the constant temperature water base. As a result, in case of Xylene, the evaporation rate of the tetrahydrofuran and methanol showed 1.4 mg/min, 19.8 mg/min and 10.2 mg/min respectively. Also, the effect of the evaporation rate on the temperature of the volatile liquid and on the velocity of wind was shown to be very sensitive. At the same time, the evaporation rate of the mixture showed large difference compared to that of the single volatile liquid.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of the evaporation rate, the plastic shrinkage and the compressive strength of concrete exposed to a rapid evaporation environment immediately after casting. Drying of concrete were conducted under a controlled chamber in which the temperature was mainfoimed at 30 ${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, the relative humidity 22 ${\pm}$1 percent, and the wind velocity 7 ${\pm}$1 m/sec. The compressive strength of concrete was tested after 28 days of standard curing. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The evaporation rate was the highest at the very beginning, was decreased as the drying progresses, and was kept almost constant after 6 hours. 2. The shrinkage of concrete was changed in three different rates for the concrete mixture having its slump vallue between 3.0cm and 7.5cm. 3. The plastic shrinkage was ended within 5 or 6 hours after casting, regardless of the water cement ratio. 4. The shrinkage was increased within the limit of slump values between 3.0cm and 7.5cm as the water-cement ratio was increased. 5. The evaporation was kept on even after the plastic shrinkage was ended. 6. Within the limit of good workability (slump value between 4.5cm and 7.5cm), the compressive strength of concrete was increased when the shrinkage rate was slow but it was decreased when the rate was rapid 7. From the result of this study it is recommended that (1) the water-cement ratio should be less as long as the workability of concrete is allowable; (2) the evaporation should be prevented at least for 4 hours after casting concrete.

  • To investigate the effect of oil on evaporation heat transfer of plate heat exchanger, evaporation heat transfer experiment was carried out using experimental apparatus for micro gear pumped R134a-oil circulation. By varying oil circulation rate of POE oil from 0 to 5%, evaporation heat transfer performance of plate heat exchanger was investigated. As OCR(Oil Circulation Ratio) increases, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R134a decreases and pressure drop increases. When the evaporating temperature is $30^{\circ}C$ and the refrigerant mass flow rate is 80 g/s, evaporation heat transfer rate decreases by 10 % and pressure drop increases by 10% at 2% of OCR condition.

  • DME(Dimethyl ether) is the one of the massive energy sources synthesized from natural gas. KOGAS has already developed the commercial-scale production plant of DME and has been doing to obtain overseas resources to meet the domestic needs. This paper presents the DME storage tank design criteria by stress and strain analysis, and the experimental study on the evaporation phenomena of DME by thermal intake and physical rolling movement of DME FPSO or cargo vessel, because the various moving motions along with heat intake cause the evaporation of low temperature liquid. The experimental result shows that the evaporation rate was increased with larger rolling degree and higher liquid level. The rolling motion leads to evaporate about 20% increase with 15 degree rolling based on the evaporation quantity without rolling.

  • Ultraviolet nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL), which is performed at a low pressure and at room temperature, is known as a low cost method for the fabrication of nano-scale patterns. In the patterning process, maintaining the uniformity of the residual layer is critical as the pattern transfer of features to the substrate must include the timed etch of the residual layer prior to the etching of the transfer layer. In pursuit of a thin and uniform residual layer thickness, the initial volume and the position of each droplet both need to be optimized. However, the monomer mixtures of resin had a tendency to evaporate. The evaporation rate depends on not only time, but also the initial volume of the monomer droplet. In order to decide the initial volume of each droplet, the accurate prediction of evaporation behavior is required. In this study, the theoretical model of the evaporation behavior of resin droplets was developed and compared with the available experimental data in the literature. It is confirmed that the evaporation rate of a droplet is not proportional to the area of its free surface, but to the length of its contact line. Finally, the parameter of the developed theoretical model was calculated by curve fitting to decide the initial volume of resin droplets.

  • Three dimensional numerical study of non-evaporating and evaporating spray characteristics was performed in a quiescent and motoring condition of direct injection diesel engine. The calculation parameter was breakup model. The breakup models used were Reitz & Diwakar model and TAB model. The modified k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model considering the compressibility effect due to the compression and expansion of piston was used. The calculation results of the spray tip penetration and tip velocity using the TAB model showed similar trends comparing with the experimental data. Although the evaporation rate was not nearly affected with the breakup model at the higher injection pressure, in the low injection case, the evaporation rate result using the TAB model became higher than that of R&D model. The evaporation rate was increased with the injection pressure due to the vigorous interaction with the gas field.

  • A simple multistep-concentration setting in capillaries was used to control the water-evaporation rate in vapor-diffusion protein crystallization. In the method used, a variety of evaporation rate curves were obtained by using the secondary precipitant solution referred to as “regulatory solution”, which is not directly exposed to the protein solution. The curves were applied to the crystallization of lysozyme as a model protein. The results clearly showed that crystal growth is dependent on the evaporation rate. Especially, the decoupling curves in which precipitant concentration in protein solutions increases to a certain point and then decreases to the equilibrium concentration gave the best crystals.

  • Many studies of microdroplet evaporation from solid surfaces were made with priority given to inkjet printing and dye painting techniques. The objective of these studies is how to evaporate a droplet quickly and uniformly. Also it is necessary to prevent evaporation of a droplet to observe cells in a droplet generated through cell-patterning. In general, an identical volume of a water droplet on hydrophobic surfaces evaporates slower than that on hydrophilic surfaces. In this study, we observe the evaporation process of a droplet on various hydrophobic surfaces and calculated the evaporation rate considering the droplet geometry such as contact angle and height. This study also proposes a new model based on the fact that evaporation mode at the edge of a droplet is different from that at the outer surface of a droplet as the contact angle changes during evaporation. Finally, we reveal the cause fur the increase of evaporation flux and show that the ratio of edge evaporation to total evaporation increases with time.

  • Removing residual water in a fuel cell is a critical operational process for managing its performance and controlling its lifetime. Understanding the mechanism of water transport in fuel cells is essential for the design of the water removal process. In this study, an experimental method for measuring the water evaporation rate through a gas diffusion layer, which is a porous medium, under steady-state conditions was developed. Experimental bench tests were conducted to apply the developed method. Then, the effects of various parameters of the drying gas and the gas diffusion layer were experimentally measured. The water evaporation rate increased as the humidity of the drying gas decreased and the flow rate of the drying gas increased. In addition, a thinner gas diffusion layer yielded a higher water evaporation rate.

  • TAO system was applied to treatment of piiggery slurry. In the experiments, the volume of influx was differentiated in four types. The features of operation, evaporation rate, and efficiency of successive treatment were drawn. The results are; 1. During the operation, the inside temperature was maintained at over $60^{\circ}C$ with the highest $70.2^{\circ}C$. 2. The evaporation rate of influx volume was 31.4%. And the evaporation volume of per square meter was $108{\;}\ell/\textrm{m}^2$; slightly different from $120{\;}\ell/\textrm{m}^2$ of batch type. 3. The VFAs was decreased by 95% (from $1,538lmg/{\ell}$ in influx to $72.9mg/{\ell}$ in Efflux). Thus, successive operation of TAO system is considered to be possible.
