  • Because of rapid development of software technology, a number of software professionals have been concerned with component-based development methodologies. Up to date, the evaluation of component quality has been focused on object-oriented metric based methodology. But this paper presents the selection process and evaluation criteria based on an MCDM(Multiple Criteria Decision Making) technique for the selection of optimal COTS component from consumers' viewpoints. We considered functionality, efficiency and usability based on ISO/IEC 9126 for quality measurement and conducted practical analysis into commercial EJB component in internet. This paper shows that the proposed selection technique is applicable for the selection of the optimal COTS component.

  • As new information technology emerges, companies are introducing an Enterprise Security Management system to cope with new security threats, reducing redundant investments and waste of resources and counteracting security threats. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a security evaluation metric based on related standards to demonstrate that the Enterprise Security Management(ESM) System meets security. Therefore, in order to construct a metric for evaluating the security of the ESM, this study analyzed the security quality related requirements of the ESM and constructed a metric for measuring the degree of satisfaction. This metric provides synergies through the unification of security assessments that comply with ISO/IEC 15408 and ISO/IEC 25000 standards. It is expected that the evaluation model of the security quality level of ESM will be established and the evaluation method of ESM will be standardized in the future.

  • The component-based development methodology becomes famous as the reuse technology to improve the high productivity of software development. It is necessary component metrics for component-based systems, because the designed components should be measurable to improve the quality of the software. Therefore this paper propose a coupling metric for component design which is reflected in characteristics of component. This paper suggest a case study and comparative analysis result about conventional metrics to verify the accuracy of our coupling metric. The Uoposed coupling metric measure the quality of components accurately and satisfies necessary conditions of coupling metric suggested by Briand and others.

  • The object of this study was to evaluate lotic ecosystem health using multiple eco-metric approaches such as water chemistry diagnosis, physical habitat health evaluations, and biological integrity modeling at 100 streams of four major watersheds. For the study, eight chemical water quality parameters such as nutrients (N, P) and organic material were measured and 11-metric models of Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) and multiple eco-metric health assessment model (MEHA) were applied to the four major watershed. Nutrient analysis of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in all watersheds indicated a eutrophic state depending on the locations of sampling streams. Physical habitat health, based on the QHEI model, averaged 114 (range: 56 - 194), judging as a "good condition" by the criteria of Plafkin et al. (1989). In addition, primary (H1 - H4), secondary (H5 - H7), and tertiary habitat metric variables (H8 - H11) were analyzed in relation to the physical habitat degradations. The plots of tolerant species ($P_{TS}$) and sensitive species ($P_{SS}$) to water quality showed that the proportions of $P_{TS}$ had positive linear functions with nutrients, and that the $P_{SS}$ had inverse linear relations with the chemical variables. The model of eco-metric health assessment showed that mean MEHA was 20.4, indicating a fair condition. Overall, our data suggest that water chemistry, based on nutrients and organic matter, directly modified the trophic structures in relation to food chain in the aquatic ecosystems, and then these directly influenced the compositions of tolerance/sensitive species, resulting in degradations of overall ecological health.

  • The interactions between people who do not know each other have been greatly increased with the on-going increase of people's cyberspace activities. In this situation, there exist potential risk factors such as the possibility of fraud, so we need a method to reduce or eliminate those risk factors. Concerning this necessity, rating systems are widely used, and many trust metrics calculated from rate values that people give to each other are proposed to help them make decisions. However, the trust metrics decrease the accuracy, and this is caused by the different rating scales and ranges of each person. So, we propose a fuzzy adjustment method to solve this problem. It is possible to catch the exact meaning of the trust value that each person selects through applying fuzzy sets, which improve the accuracy of the trust metric calculated from the trust values. We have applied our fuzzy adjustment method to the TidalTrust algorithm, a representative algorithm for calculating the local scalar trust metric, and we performed an experimental evaluation with four data sets and three evaluation methods.

  • Imprecision of evaluation or lack of prior information about preference can be an obstacle for decision maker in representing his strict preference. Therefore, fuzziness of preference can take place, and in addition, intransitivity or incomparability of preference becomes the critical difficulty in making complete preorder of alternatives. In order to get better solution and to improve practical usufulness, MCDM should be established as a pseudo-criterion model that include fuzzy preference. In this paper, we suggest a pseudo-criterion model that can make complete preorder of alternatives by metric distance measure.

  • Consolidating servers into a virtualized system increases entire system utilization, while suffers from performance degradation due to the additional virtualization layer. In this paper, we proposed a performance evaluation methodology for comparing virtualized systems with native non-virtualized systems. We defined a system waste rate per consolidated throughput as a metric, and described the method for calculating system waste rate and consolidated throughput for both of virtualized systems and non-virtualized systems. Using the proposing performance evaluation methodology, we established testbeds, evaluated their performance, and compared the metrics of both systems. As a result of the evaluation, we could show the appropriateness of our methodology and analyze the effect of the application characteristics.

  • In wireless mesh networks multi-rate technology environment, a mesh node can dynamically modify the data transmission rate on a particular link, in response to link distance, or more accurately, the perceived SNR ratio between neighbor nodes. In such networks, existing route selection schemes use a link quality metric. Thus, these schemes may easily result in the network being overloaded. In this paper, a new route metric is proposed; it considers both per-hop service delay and link quality at mesh nodes. In addition, the Load-Aware AODV (LA-AODV) protocol using the proposed metric is presented. The performance evaluation is performed by simulation using the OPNET simulator. It is demonstrated that the LA-AODV protocol outperforms the existing routing protocols using other existing route metrics in multi-rate WMN environment.

  • This paper proposes a quality metric based on a No-Reference Bitstream (NR-B) having least computational complexity for the assessment of the human-perceptual quality of H.264 encoded video. The proposed NR-B method performs a modeling of encoding distortion with three bit-stream information (i.e. frame-rate, motion-vector, and quantization-parameter) that can be directly extractable from the encoded bitstream and does not require additional complex processing of final pictures. From performance evaluation using 165 compressed video sequences, the experiment results show that the proposed metric has a higher correlation with subjective quality than is achieved with other comparable methods.

  • For Web System composed of a variety of hardware, software and network system, there is a wide difference in price, function and capacity. In addition, it is important to select the most suitable system when web system is constructed as the claim of high-quality web service from user has increased. Data of bench-marking is usually employed when the system is selected. Evaluation with the result of bench-marking, however, is not easy at web situation composed of a variety of systems. In this paper, first integrated bench-marking of hardware, software and network system metric were determined, and the plan to effectively compare and evaluate the result of bench-marking by using fuzzy set were offered.
