Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce an operator console design review system suitable for designing and evaluating consoles based on human factor guidelines for a digitalized main control room in an advanced nuclear power plant which has a requirement for anthropometric data usage. Background: The system interface of the main control room in a nuclear power plant has been getting digitalized and consists of various consoles with many information displays. Console operators often face human-computer interactive problems due to inappropriate console design stemming from the perceptual constraints of anthropometric data usage. Method: Computational models with a process of visual perception and variables of anthropometric data are used for designing and evaluating operator consoles suitable for human system interface guidelines, which are used in an advanced nuclear power plant. Results: From the computational model and simulation application, console dimensions and a designing test module, which would be used for designing suitable consoles with safety concerns in a nuclear power plant, have been introduced. Conclusion: This case study may influence employing a suitable design concept with various anthropometric data in many areas with safety concerns and may show a feasible solution to designing and evaluating the safety console dimensions. Application: The results of this study may be used for designing a control room with the human factors requiring a safe working environment.

This paper suggests some guidelines on evaluating Korean text-to-speech systems in various aspects. Guidelines are suggested in terms of text analysis, intelligibility test and naturalness test and also in terms of generalities and specialties.

Background : Despite favorable effects of guidelines on patient care, guidelines often fail to achieve their objectives. Poorly implemented medical practice guidelines can produce only weak effects on the process of health care delivery. Therefore, we performed this study to investigate barriers related development of clinical practice guidelines. Methods : Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was selected as a target problem. Self questionnaires about management of cardiopulmonary resuscitation were developed by a researcher with advisory 8 experts. The questionnaires were designed as a unstructured methods. The data were collected from March 1 to May 31, 1999. A total 50 death case admitted inpatient to Inha University Hospital were subjected to evaluate the development and application of clinical practice guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The data were examined by frequency, t-test with SPSS. Result : The article reviewed several common barriers that might limit successful implementation of guidelines in clinical practice, as illustrated by evaluating recommendations for cardiopulmonary resuscitation clinical practice guidelines. Some major problems with guidelines were characterized as follows (1) ethical problem : euthanasia, (2) occurrence on various emergency event and setting, (3) non-medical problems (4) unreliable of medical record etc. Conclusion : Careful analysis of guideline attributes, anticipated effect on medical care, and organizational factors revealed several barriers to successful guideline implementation that should be addressed in the design of future guideline-based interventions.

The purpose of this study was to lay out child-friendly planning guidelines for environments in a bid to create residential environments geared toward backing up children's life. Earlier studies were reviewed to make a literature analysis to find out existing planning guidelines for environments, and small-group workshop was held to formulate down-to-earth planning guidelines. And a survey was conducted on the parents of selected children to assess the importance of the selected planning guidelines. The findings of the study were as follows: First, residential environments were categorized into housing spaces and outdoor playing spaces, and 25 and 28 planning guidelines for each field were prepared respectively. When a survey was implemented, all the 53 planning guidelines were rated as important or very important. Second, the guidelines for safety were considered very important, and the importance of the planning guidelines varied with children's age. The findings of the study suggest that the development of more reinforced criteria for children's safety is required to create child-friendly residential environments.

Purpose: This study was done to develop performance appraisal guidelines based on the standardized appraisal tool developed in a previous study. Methods: A preliminary investigation was done to draw up a draft guidelines through a literature review. To verify the content validity of the guidelines, 10 nurse managers reviewed the standardized appraisal tool and draft guidelines. Through this process, the performance appraisal guidelines were revised and supplemented. In order to examine the reliability and validity of the guidelines, 13 nurse managers conducted performance appraisal for 178 nurses. Results: As a result, the items of pre-existing tool was reduced from 63 to 30 for usefulness, and guidelines for each items were developed. Conclusion: The revised performance appraisal tool and guidelines are expected to be useful in objectively evaluating nursing performance objectively.

With the help of learning analytics, MOOCs have wider potential to succeed in learning through promoting self-regulated learning (SRL). The current study aims to apply and validate visualization design guidelines for a MOOC dashboard to enhance such SRL capabilities based on learning analytics. To achieve the research objective, a MOOC dashboard prototype, LM-Dashboard, was designed and developed, reflecting the visualization design guidelines to promote SRL. Then, both expert and learner participants evaluated LM-Dashboard through iterations to validate the visualization design guidelines and perceived SRL effectiveness. The results of expert and learner evaluations indicated that most of the visualization design guidelines on LM-Dashboard were valid and some perceived SRL aspects such as monitoring a student's learning progress and assessing their achievements with time management were beneficial. However, some features on LM-Dashboard should be improved to enhance SRL aspects related to achieving their learning goals with persistence. The findings suggest that it is necessary to offer appropriate feedback or tips as well as to visualize learner behaviors and activities in an intuitive and efficient way for the successful cycle of SRL. Consequently, this study contributes to establishing a basis for the visual design of a MOOC dashboard for optimizing each learner's SRL.

Purpose: This study was done to evaluate nursing guidelines for patients with acute stroke, developed by adapting the guidelines of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, Canada to clinical settings on a large scale and evaluating the effectiveness as a research study. Method: The general characteristics of the 319 patients and the effectiveness of guideline application were evaluated in terms of structure, process, and outcome using questionnaires on the guidelines application with reference to the medical records of patients with acute stroke hospitalized on a ward of the stroke center of S General Hospital in Seoul. Results: Structures as a guidance system for assessment were consistent with the recommendations. With respect to the process of the guidelines, for items on nursing assessment, improved performance was found to be statistically significant. For outcomes of the guidelines, complications occurred in 8 patients (5.3%) prior to application of the guidelines and 11 patients (6.5%) after application of the guidelines, but this result was not statistically significant (p=.841). Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that for the effectiveness of the guidelines, accessibility to the guidelines and effectiveness of quality improvement need to be evaluated, in addition to complications of a stroke.

Riverfront plays an important role as accessible and inclusive public space for residents, and a riverfront development and management has become a social and environmental issue. The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean legislation and guidelines applied in a riverfront assessment process to identify any legislative problems. To this end, major laws, regulations, national river management plans, and various guidelines related to river management were reviewed. The followings are the suggestions proposed for future improvement. First, clear and consistent definitions on riverfront areas and its spatial range are required across the laws. Also, recreational activities and facilities in riverfront should be categorized and listed for possible development and maintenance. Second, it is necessary to develop an objective and unified riverfront assessment system. Also, guidelines for surveying and evaluating the conditions and potentials of riverfront should be developed. Third, efforts should be made to revise related laws and guidelines to enable comprehensive and systematic approach in design, planning, implementation, maintenance of riverfront. Improving the related legislations and streamlining an riverfront assessment process can help create environmentally-friendly riverfront spaces and mange them efficiently.

As speech is the human being's most natural communication medium, using it gives many advantages. Currently, most user interfaces of a computer are using a mouse/keyboard type but the interface using speech recognition is expected to replace them or at least be used as a tool for supporting it. Despite the advantages, the speech recognition interface is not that popular because of technical difficulties such as recognition accuracy and slow response time to name a few. Nevertheless, it is important to optimize the human-computer system performance by improving the usability. This paper presents a set of guidelines for designing speech recognition interfaces and provides a method for evaluating the usability. A total of 113 guidelines are suggested to improve the usability of speech-recognition interfaces. The evaluation method consists of four major procedures: user interface evaluation; function evaluation; vocabulary estimation; and recognition speed/accuracy evaluation. Each procedure is described along with proper techniques for efficient evaluation.

In Vol. 31, No. 1, our journal prepared four review articles and two original papers. First, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of our journal, the first review article described the history, development, and recent efforts for the qualitative improvement of the journal. For aviation workers, dizziness is an important disease that can interfere with their work. So, in the second review, we introduced guidelines that aviation medical examiners should be aware of in evaluating aviation workers who complain of dizziness. In the era of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is very important for aviation workers to get the vaccination safely and return to their work. So, Kwon introduced the latest updated guidelines for vaccination for aviation workers. In addition, Kim described the relationship between COVID-19 infection and respiratory allergic disease, and appropriate treatment guidelines. Lim investigated the recent trend of human papillomavirus vaccination for foreigners during the COVID-19 period, and investigated its implications. Finally, Ra developed various programs to strengthen students' global competencies and analyzed their satisfaction.
