In this paper, the problem of static bending of axially functionally graded (AFG) nanobeam is formulated with the local stress(Lσ)- and strain-driven(εD) two-phase local/nonlocal integral models (TPNIMs). The novelty of the present study aims to compare the size-effects of nonlocal integral models on bending deflections of AFG Euler-Bernoulli nano-beams. The integral relation between strain and nonlocal stress components based on two types nonlocal integral models is transformed unitedly and equivalently into differential form with constitutive boundary conditions. Purely LσD- and εD-NIMs would lead to ill-posed mathematical formulation, and Purely εD- and LσD-nonlocal differential models (NDM) may result in inconsistent size-dependent bending responses. The general differential quadrature method is applied to obtain the numerical results for bending deflection and moment of AFG nanobeam subjected to different boundary and loading conditions. The influence of AFG index, nonlocal models, and nonlocal parameters on the bending deflections of AFG Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams is investigated numerically. A consistent softening effects can be obtained for both LσD- and εD-TPNIMs. The results from current work may provide useful guidelines for designing and optimizing AFG Euler-Bernoulli beam based nano instruments.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of beam-columns on the non-homogeneous foundaion. The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The linear foundation modulus is chosen as the non-homogeneous foundation in this study . The differentidal equation goeverning free vibrations of such beam-columns subjected to axial load is derived and solved numerically for calculting the natural frquencies and mode shapes. In numerical fivekinds of end constraint are considered, and the lowest four natural frquencies and corresponding mode shape are obtained as the non-dimensional forms.

In this paper, beam finite elements with higher-order derivatives' continuity are formulated and evaluated for various boundary conditions. All the beam elements are based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. These higher-order beam elements are often required to analyze structures by using newly developed higher-order beam theories and/or non-classical beam theories based on nonlocal elasticity. It is however rare to assess the performance of such elements in terms of boundary and loading conditions. To this end, two higher-order beam elements are formulated, in which $C^2$ and $C^3$ continuities of the deflection are enforced, respectively. Three different boundary conditions are then applied to solve beam structures, such as cantilever, simply-support and clamped-hinge conditions. In addition to conventional Euler-Bernoulli beam boundary conditions, the effect of higher-order boundary conditions is investigated. Depending on the boundary conditions, the oscillatory behavior of deflections is observed. Especially the geometric boundary conditions are problematic, which trigger unstable solutions when higher-order deflections are prescribed. It is expected that the results obtained herein serve as a guideline for higher-order derivatives' continuous finite elements.
In this paper, free vibration of rotating beam with random properties is studied. The cross-sectional area, elasticity modulus, moment of inertia, shear modulus and density are modeled as random fields and the rotational speed as a random variable. To study uncertainty, stochastic finite element method based on second order perturbation method is applied. To discretize random fields, the three methods of midpoint, interpolation and local average are applied and compared. The effects of rotational speed, setting angle, random property variances, discretization scheme, number of elements, correlation of random fields, correlation function form and correlation length on "Coefficient of Variation" (C.O.V.) of first mode eigenvalue are investigated completely. To determine the significant random properties on the variation of first mode eigenvalue the sensitivity analysis is performed. The results are studied for both Timoshenko and Bernoulli-Euler rotating beam. It is shown that the C.O.V. of first mode eigenvalue of Timoshenko and Bernoulli-Euler rotating beams are approximately identical. Also, compared to uncorrelated random fields, the correlated case has larger C.O.V. value. Another important result is, where correlation length is small, the convergence rate is lower and more number of elements are necessary for convergence of final response.
The current study presents a mathematical model and numerical method for free vibration of tapered piles embedded in two-parameter elastic foundations. The method of Discrete Singular Convolution (DSC) is used for numerical simulation. Bernoulli-Euler beam theory is considered. Various numerical applications demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed method for free vibration analysis. The results prove that the proposed method is quite easy to implement, accurate and highly efficient for free vibration analysis of tapered beam-columns embedded in Winkler- Pasternak elastic foundations.
Based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and continuous element method, the free vibration of bi-dimensional functionally graded beams is investigated. It is assumed that the material properties vary exponentially along the beam thickness and length. The characteristic frequency equations of beams with different boundary conditions are obtained by transfer matrix method. The validity of the proposed method is assessed through comparison with available results. Parametric studies are carried out to analyze the influences of the gradient indexes and the beam slenderness ratio on the natural frequencies of bi-dimensional functionally graded beams.
This paper presents a sliding mode controller based on variable structure for the tip position control of a single-link flexible manipulator. Dynamic equations of a single-link flexible manipulator are derived from the Euler-Lagrange equation using a Lagrangian assumed modes method based on Bernoulli-Euler Beam theory. Simulation results are presented to show the validity of the system modeling, controller design.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of tapered beams with general boundary condition(translational and rotational elastic support) at one end and carrying a tip mass of rotatory inertia at the other end. The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory which neglects the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. (omitted)
In this paper Hamiltonian Approach (HA) have been used to analysis the nonlinear free vibration of Simply-Supported (S-S) and for the Clamped-Clamped (C-C) Euler-Bernoulli beams fixed at one end subjected to the axial loads. First we used Galerkin's method to obtain an ordinary differential equation from the governing nonlinear partial differential equation. The effect of different parameter such as variation of amplitude to the obtained on the non-linear frequency is considered. Comparison of HA with Runge-Kutta 4th leads to highly accurate solutions. It is predicted that Hamiltonian Approach can be applied easily for nonlinear problems in engineering.

Carbon nanotube actuator, working under physical conditions (in aqueous solution) and converting electrical energy into mechanical energy directly, can be a good substitute for artificial muscle. The carbon nanotube actuator simulated in this paper is an isotropic cantilever type with an adhesive tape which is sandwiched between two single-walled carbon nanotubes. For predicting the static and dynamic characteristic parameters, the analytical model for a 3 layer bimorph carbon nanotube actuator is developed by using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The governing equation and boundary conditions are derived from energy principles. The induced displacements of the theoretical model are presented in order to investigate the performance of the carbon nanotube actuator with different control voltages. The developed model presents invaluable means for designing and predicting the performance of carbon nanotube actuator that can be used in artificial muscle applications.
