Preparation and Characterization of Silk Fibroin Nanoparticles

  • Silk fibroin was conjugated with methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) derivatives to prepare silk nanoparicles. Conjugation of SF with PEG was examined with various instrumental analyses. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and amino acid analysis showed that serine and tyrosine residues in SF were reacted with PEG and resulted in increasing molecular weight. The sizes and shapes of SF nanoparticles observed by transmission electronmicroscope were ranged about 150-400 nm in diameter and spherical morphology. UV/VIS spectrometry showed SF nanoparticles might be outer PEG and inner SF structure.

  • ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$films were prepared by a dip-coating method using the mixed solution of ferric nitrate, ethylene glycol and acethyl acetone. The polymerization effect of the mixed solution was studied by FT-IR spectroscopic analysis, and the decomposition of organic parts and crystallization of the dip-coated film were investigated by FT-IR, XRD and DSC. In addition, AFM and SEM were employed to analyze the surface roughness and the thickness of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$films.

Measurement of diffusion Profiles of Boron and Arsenic in Silicon by Silicon Anodization Method (실리콘 양극산화 방법에 의한 실리콘내의 보론과 아세닉 확산분포의 측정)

  • Anodization method is utilized in order to measure diffusion profiles of boron and arsenic in silicon. The solution used for silicon anodization is Ethylene glycol +KNO3(0.04N), The thickness of silicon which is consumed by a single 200V anodization is 460$\pm$40A regardless of wafer type. The profiles of boron and arsenic in silicon after predeposition process are investigated. The diffusion coefficients of both dopants depending on impurity concentration are extrated from these profiles. The base pull-in effect has been observed in prototype npn transistors with arsenic doped emitter.

  • This article presents an experimental study on the effect of temperature and solid volume fraction of nanoparticles on the dynamic viscosity for the CuO/EG-water nanofluid. Nanoparticles with diameter of 40 nm are used in the present study to prepare nanofluid by two-step method. A "Brookfield viscometer" has been used to measure the dynamic viscosity of nanofluid with solid volume fraction up to 2% at the temperature range between 20 to $60^{\circ}C$. The findings have shown that dynamic viscosity of nanofluid increases with increasing particle volume fraction and decreasing temperature. Nine different correlations are developed on experimental data point to predict the relative dynamic viscosity of nanofluid at different temperatures. To make sure of accuracy of the proposed correlations, margin of deviation is presented at the end of this study. The results show excellent agreement between experimental data and those obtained through the correlations.

  • In order to synthesize N,N-di-(polyoxyethylene) perfluoroacyl amines and the surface active monoperfluoroacyl aza crown ethers, it is performed as follow. Six of N,N-di(polyoxyethylene) perfluoro acyl amines were synthesized from perfluoroalkanoic acids with ethanol followed by oxyethylation with triethylene glycol mono chloride or tetra ethylene glycol mono chloride and six of N-perfluor acyl monoaza crown ethers by cyclization of corresponding N,N-di(polyoxy ethylene} perfluoro acyl amines with p-toluene suflonic chloride-NaOH/dioxane, p-toluene sulfonyl chloride KOH/dioxane and benzene sulfonic chloride-KOH/dioxane systems.

  • The synthesis of poly(N,N-dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)) copolymer has been carried out and the block copolymer was characterized by FT-IR, DSC, and $^1$H-NMR. The formation of polymeric nanoaggregation was observed in the solution mixture of poly(DMAEMA) -block-PEG copolymer and poly (ethyl acrylamide) (EAAm) due to the intermolecular interaction via hydrogen bond between DMAEMA and poly(EAAm). The formation of polymeric nanoaggregation was observed above critical micelle concentration (CMC).

  • Crosslinked poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEGs) were prepared by ultraviolet irradiation of low molar mass, liquid PEGs in the presence of benzophenone (BP) as a photoinitiator. The networks obtained have been characterized by DSC, IR, and contact angle measurements, and their water absorption and equilibrium swelling have been examined. The percent of gel formed and degree of swelling of the networks in water were dependent on the amount of BP in the reaction mixture, irradiation time and molar mass of PEG. Gel fraction yield exceeded 84%, and equilibrium swelling in water varied from 49 to 244%.

  • Our environment is faced with serious problems related to the air pollution from automobiles in these days. In particular, the exhaust emissions from the diesel engines are recognized as main cause which has a great influence on environment. In this study, the potential of biodiesel fuel and oxygenated fuel(ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether; EGBE) was investigated as an effective method of decreasing the smoke emission. The smoke emission of blending fuel(EGBE 0~20 vol-%) was reduced in comparison with diesel fuel and it was reduced approximately 64% at 2000 rpm, full load in the 20% of blending rate. On the contrary NOx emissions from biodiesel fuel and EGBE blended fuel were increased compared with diesel fuel. Torque and brake specific energy consumption(BSEC) didn't have large differences.

Viscosity and thermal conductivity of copper oxide nanofluid dispersed in ethylene glycol

  • Nanofluid is a novel heat transfer fluid prepared by dispersing nanometer-sized solid particles in traditional heat transfer fluid to increase thermal conductivity and heat transfer performance. In this research we have considered the rheological properties of nanofluids made of CuO particles of 10-30nm in length and ethylene glycol in conjunction with the thermal conductivity enhancement. When examined using TEM, individual CuO particles have the shape of prolate spheroid of the aspect ratio of 3 and most of the particles are under aggregated states even after sonication for a prolonged period. From the rheological property it has been found that the volume fraction at the dilute limit is 0.002, which is much smaller than the value based on the shape and size of individual particles due to aggregation of particles. At the semi-dilute regime, the zero shear viscosity follows the Doi-Edwards theory on rodlike particles. The thermal conductivity measurement shows that substantial enhancement in thermal conductivity with respect to particle concentration is attainable only when particle concentration is below the dilute limit.

  • Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)는 Hydrophilic하면서 독성이 없기 때문에 약물과 관련된 연구가 많이 이루어졌다. 초기 PEGylation은 약물과 관련된 연구가 주를 이루었지만, 최근에는 PEG의 non-fouling 효과 때문에 표면에 적용하여 biomedical 장비에 세포나 단백질이 붙지 않도록 하는 개질하는 방법에 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. Native Chemical Ligation(N.C.L.)은 단백질을 합성할 때, Protecting group을 사용하지 않고 반응을 진행시킬 수 있기 때문에 많은 주목을 받고 있다. N.C.L.은 합성한 두 물질이 Thioester와 Cysteine을 갖고 있으면, mild condition에서 amide bond를 형성하면서 반응이 쉽게 진행되기 때문에 다양한 분야에 적용할 수 있다. 이 논문에서 우리는 N.C.L.을 표면에 적용시켰으며 그 중 한 예로 표면 PEGylation진행하였다.
