Synthesis, Characterization, and Properties of Ethoxylated Azo Dyes

  • The nonionic surfactant properties of ethoxylated azo dyes, such ai cloud point and surface tension have been investigated. The synthesized ethoxylated azo dyes could dye polyester fabric without any special pre-treatment. When the average number of ethylene oxide (EO) in the ethoxylated azo dye reached 6, its fixation could exceed $90^{\circ}C$ from the thermosol dyeing process. The average degree of condensation of ethylene glycol in the chain was interrelated with the dyeing results and did not affect on the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) of the polyoxyethylene dye. When the average length of polyoxyethylene chain decreased, the molecular weight of dyes became smaller and the fixation of dyes was improved.

  • Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics were dyed with a series of ethoxylated alkylaminoanthraquinone dyes synthesized by the reaction of 1-aminoanthraquinone with poly(ethylene glycol) via a series of methylene spacer, and their hydrophilicity and durability to laundering were investigated. The results obtained are as follows: 1) Ethoxylated alkylaminoanthraquinone were successfully exhausted on PET fabric without any aid of chemical auxiliary. 2) The wettability of the dyed PET fabric was increased with the length of ethoxylate chain. 3) The durability of the wettability was good enough as to maintain the initial wettability even after 30 repeated launderings.

  • Surface modification of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PEI) films by treatment with ethoxylated alkylaminoanthraquinoes which was synthesized by the reaction of 1-aminoanthraquinone with poly(ethylene glycol) via a series of methylene spacer were investigated. The synthesized ethoxylated alkylaminoanthraquinones showed definite cloud point as in nonionic surfactants, and the adsorption of the compounds on PET increased near the cloud point. At same temperature the adsorption increased with the length of methylene spacer; hexyl-octyl-, and decyl-. The adsorption was limited to the extreme surface of PET film, which made the surface of PET film hydrophillic by reducing water contact angle.

초임계 이산화탄소내 비이온성 계면활성제를 이용한 마이크로에멀젼 형성연구 (Microemulsions in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Utilizing Nonionic Surfactants)

  • 비이온성 계면활성제인 Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 계열(NP-Series)을 초임계 이산화탄소내 마이크로에멀젼 형성 연구에 적용하였다. 초임계 이산화탄소내 용해도 측정결과, 기존에 잘 알려진 친이산화탄소성 계면활성제가 아님에도 안정적인 용해도를 나타내었고, 물과의 마이크로에멀젼 형성에 있어서도 안정적으로 형성되었다. 마이크로에멀젼 형성을 위한 NP-시리즈 계면활성제의 친이산화탄소성기에 대한 친수성기의 길이 배합을 실험을 통해 NP-4 계면활성제(N=4)로 최적화하였다. 마이크로에멀젼 형성을 분광학적 방법인 UV-Visible 스펙트럼을 측정하여 확인하고, 마이크로에멀젼내 물의 존재성도 확인하였다. 금속표면처리나 도금의 적용을 위해 산성용액과 마이크로에멀젼 형성을 실험한 결과, 이온성 계면활성제는 산성용액과의 반응에서 마이크로에멀젼 형성이 불안정해지는 반면, 비이온성 계면활성제는 안정적으로 형성되었다. 본 연구결과는 친환경적 용매인 이산화탄소의 응용분야를 보다 넓힐 수 있을 것이다.

Methoxy Polyoxyethylene Dodecanoate의 합성 (Synthesis of Methoxy Polyoxyethlene Dodecanoates)

  • 고급지방산 메틸에스테르의 일종인 dodecanoic acid methyl ester (DME)에 금속 산화물인 고체촉매 (W-7)를 이용하여 고온, 고압하에서 ethyleneoxide (EO)를 5, 7, 9, 및 12 몰씩 부가반응시켜 얻은 비이온성 계면활성제인 methoxy polyoxy ethylene dodecanoate (MPD)류 4종을 높은 수율 (93~97%)로 합성하여 얻었다. DME는 구조적으로 활성수소가 없어서 일반적인 산, 알칼리 촉매에서는 반응이 어렵고 활성고체촉매를 사용해야 EO의 단위 몰수를 부가 시킬 수 있었다. 최종 생성물에 대한 것을 IR, HPLC 및 $^1H$ NMR를 이용하여 각각의 화합물에 대한 구조를 확인하였다. 이 결과 EO의 부가 몰수는 5.2, 7.1, 9.2 및 12.1 몰이었고, 각 몰의 평균 EO 분포는 polyoxyethylene alkyl ether (AE)처럼 정규분포 곡선을 나타내었다.
