A Study on the Numerical Calculation for Shallow Water Waves Considering the Wind Direction Characteristics of Typhoon (태풍의 풍향특성을 고려한 천해파 산정에 관한 연구)

  • While a typhoon is traveling, characteristics of its wind fields are continuously changing, producing severe changes in local water level and wave conditions, especially, when a typhoon comes into shallow water. However, there have not been many studies related to local typhoon effects, especially, considering real time changes of wind direction related to the coastal topography. In the study, the characteristics of the wind field by typhoon and topographical characteristics in shallow water are considered, as well as conditions of wave climate estimation. These are performed by the SWAN (Simulating waves nearshore) model, in order to estimate the growth of wave energy due to the wind field. It can be strongly suggested that the wave energy of theof an inner bay should be estimated when the direction of the bay entrance and the wind direction of the typhoon are identical. The result of the numerical calculations is in better agreement with the observed data than the result of the conventional estimation techniques.

  • Artificial neural networks are algorithms that simulate learning through interaction and experience in neurons in the brain and that are a method that can be used to produce accurate results through learning that reflects the characteristics of data. In this study, a model using deep neural network was presented to improve the predicted wind speed values in the meteorological dynamic model. The wind speed prediction improvement model using the deep neural network presented in the study constructed a model to recalibrate the predicted values of the meteorological dynamics model and carried out the verification and testing process and Separate data confirm that the accuracy of the predictions can be increased. In order to improve the prediction of wind speed, an in-depth neural network was established using the predicted values of general weather data such as time, temperature, air pressure, humidity, atmospheric conditions, and wind speed. Some of the data in the entire data were divided into data for checking the adequacy of the model, and the separate accuracy was checked rather than being used for model building and learning to confirm the suitability of the methods presented in the study.

  • This study investigated the problems in current practice of drive-train resonance analysis procedure and suggested solutions. The first problem is the resonance occurrence at the un-identified resonance point by the current practice, as for a solution the force spectrum analysis for each critical force transmitting component was suggested. The second one is the inaccurate estimation of potential resonance point in eigenfrequency analysis because of the non-consideration about the eigenfrequency dependency on rotor-speed, the fine linearization at each rotor speed point all over operational range was proposed to account for the affection. Lastly the insufficient time for resonance activation under run-up simulation condition was recognized as a problem in resonance load increasing analysis, as an alternative, steady state condition was suggested to estimate the maximum load increasing level.

Error analysis on the Offshore Wind Speed Estimation using HeMOSU-1 Data (HeMOSU-1호 관측 자료를 이용한 해상풍속 산정오차 분석)

  • In this paper, error analyses on the calculation of offshore wind speed have been conducted using HeMOSU-1 data to develop offshore wind energy in Yeonggwang sea of Korea and onshore observed wind data in Buan, Gochang and Yeonggwang for 2011. Offshore wind speed data at 98.69 m height above M.S.L is estimated using relational expression induced by linear regression analysis between onshore and offshore wind data. In addition, estimated offshore wind speed data is set at 87.65 m above M.S.L using power law wind profile model with power law exponent(0.115) and its results are compared with the observed data. As a result, the spatial adjustment error are 1.6~2.2 m/s and the altitude adjustment error is approximately 0.1 m/s. This study shows that the altitude adjustment error is about 5% of the spatial adjustment error. Thus, long term observed data are needed when offshore wind speed was estimated by onshore wind speed data. because the conversion of onshore wind data lead to large error.

New DTR Estimation Method Without Measured Solar and Wind Data

  • Dynamic thermal rating (DTR) of overhead transmission lines can provide a significant increase in transmission capacity compared to the static thermal rating. However, the DTR are usually estimated by the traditional thermal model of overhead conductor that is highly dependent on the solar, wind speed and wind direction data. Consequently, the estimated DTR would be unreliable and the safety of transmission lines would be reduced when the solar and wind sensors are out of function. To address this issue, this study proposed a novel thermal model of overhead conductor based on the thermal-electric analogy theory and Markov chain. Using this thermal model, the random variation of conductor temperature can be simulated with any specific current level and ambient temperature, even if the solar and wind sensors are out of function or uninstalled. On this basis, an estimation method was proposed to determine the DTR in the form of probability. The laboratory experiments prove that the proposed method can estimate the DTR reliably without measured solar and wind data.

Estimation on the Radius of Maximum Wind Speed using RSMC Best Track Data (RSMC 최적경로 자료를 이용한 태풍의 최대풍속반경 산정)

  • Typhoon simulation method is widely used to estimate sea surface wind speeds during the typhoon periods. Holland (1980) model has been regarded to provide relatively better results for observed wind data. JTWC or RSMC best track data are available for typhoon modeling, but these data show slightly different because the data generation process are different. In this paper, a Newton-Raphson method is used to solve the two nonlinear equations based on the Holland model that is formed by the two typhoon parameters, i.e. the longest radius of 25 m/s and 15 m/s wind speeds, respectively. The solution is the radius of maximum wind speed which is of importance for typhoon modeling. This method is based on the typhoon wind profile of JMA and it shows that Holland model appears to fit better the characteristics of typhoons on the temporal and spatial changes than that of the other models. In case of using RSMC best track data, the method suggested in this study shows better and more reasonable results for the estimation of radius of maximum wind speed because the consistency of the input data is assured.

  • Recent destructions of outdoor signboards have frequently been caused by strong wind, resulting in damage on the property and human livelihood. One of the major causes of the problems is inadequate implementation of structural design code to the outdoor signboards which are vulnerable to wind. This leads to this paper to present the design guideline of wind-resistant outdoor signboards. In order to estimate the design wind speed, basic wind speeds over Korea suggested by KBC(2015)(revision) are corrected with land surface roughness and topography of the terrain and installation height of the signboard. This paper also suggested the procedure of wind load estimation for different types of outdoor signboards; wall attached type, wall ribbed type and ground erected type. Since the process involves complex calculation to some extent, this paper presents summarized version of wind load estimation from non-professional point of view.

Robust Filter Based Wind Velocity Estimation Method for Unpowered Air Vehicle Without Air Speed Sensor (대기 속도 센서가 없는 무추력 항공기의 강인 필터 기반의 바람 속도 추정 기법)

  • In this paper, a robust filter based wind velocity estimation algorithm without an air velocity sensor in an air vehicle is presented. The wind velocity is useful information for the air vehicle to perform precise guidance and control. In general, the wind velocity can be obtained by subtracting an air velocity which is obtained by an air velocity sensor such as a pitot-tube, and a ground velocity which is obtained by a navigation equipment. However, in order to simplify the configuration of the air vehicle, the wind estimation algorithm is necessary because the wind velocity can not be directly obtained if the air velocity measurement sensor is not used. At this time, the aerodynamic coefficient of the air vehicle changes due to the turbulence, which causes the uncertainty of the system model of the filter, and the wind estimation performance deteriorates. Therefore, in this study, we propose a wind estimation method using $H{\infty}$ filter to ensure robustness against aerodynamic coefficient uncertainty, and we confirmed through simulation that the proposed method improves the performance in the uncertainty of aerodynamic coefficient.

A Study on Frost Occurrence Estimation Model in Main Production Areas of Vegetables (채소 주산지에 대한 서리발생예측 연구)

  • In this study, to estimate the occurrence of frost that has a negative effect on th growth of crops, we constructed to the statistical model. We factored such various meteorological elements as the minimum temperature, temperature at 18:00, temperature at 21:00, temperature at 24:00, average wind speed, wind speed at 18:00, wind speed at 21:00, amount of cloud, amount of precipitation within 5 days, amount of precipitation within 3 days, relative humidity, dew point temperature, minimum grass temperature and ground temperature. Among the diverse variables, the several weather factors were selected for frost occurrence estimation model using statistical methods: T-test, Variable importance plot of Random Forest, Multicollinearity test, Akaike Informaiton Criteria, and Wilk's Lambda values. As a result, the selected meteorological factors were the amount of cloud, temperature at 24:00, dew point temperature, wind speed at 21:00. The accuracy of the frost occurrence estimation model using Random Forest was 70.6%. When it applied to the main production areas of vegetables, a estimation accuracy of the model was 65.2 and 78.6%.

  • This paper reports the study on development and verification of numerical models and analyzes of flow at high speed around structural elements in the shape of a curved pipe (e.g., a fragment of a water slide). Possibility of engineering estimation of wind forces acting on an object in the shape of a helix is presented, using relationships concerning toroidal and cylindrical elements. Determination of useful engineering parameters (such as aerodynamic forces, pressure distribution, and air velocity field) is presented, impossible to obtain from the existing standard EN 1991-1-4 (the so-called wind standard). For this purpose, flow at high speed around a torus and helix, arranged both near planar surface and high above it, was analyzed. Analyzes begin with the flow around a cylinder. This is the simplest object with a circular cross-section and at the same time the most studied in the literature. Based on this model, more complex models are analyzed: first in the shape of half of a torus, next in the shape of a helix.
