Growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Cosmetics(Emulsion-type) and the Effect of Antiseptics (화장품(에멀젼형)에서 Pseudomonas aeruginosa의 성장과 방부살균제효과)

  • Most of cosmetics are emulsion-type products which contain the sources of nutrition, i.e., vegetable oil, mineral oil and carbohyrate etc.. These additives are usually very susceptible to the contamination by microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to obtain the data necessary not only to prevent dermalopathia occurred by microbials but also to maintain the quality. In this experiment we observed the growth of P.aeruginosa in the cosmetics with or without antiseptics so as to prevent contamination. During the contamination period, the phase became unstable and creaming phenomina was happened together with some discoloration and bad smell. The pH of cosmetic was decreased from 7.6 to 6.0 and the concentration was increased from 1.443 to 1.453 in terms of refractive index during 40 days incubation. By adding antiseptics to the cosmetics, the number of P. aeruginosa from the challenge test method were decreased from $10^8$ cell/ml to $5{\times}10^3$ cell/ml. For the antibacterial effect against P. aeruginosa, p-hydroxy benzoic acid propyl ester in phosphoric acid buffer solution showed the best result.

  • This study was concerned with the scouring effect of anionic surfactants, PAPE(sodium polyoxyethylene alkyl phosphoric ester) for cotton fibres. Sodium polyoxyethylene(7) nonylphenyl phosphoric ester(CPB-1) and the sodium polyoxyethylene(7) tridecyl phosphoric ester(CPB-2) were synthesized by the phosphoric esterification reaction from NP-7(polyoxyethylene(7) nonylphenyl ether) and TDA-7(polyoxyethylene(7) tridecyl ether) as scouring agents. Defoaming ability, fibre wetting time and absorbency rate of scouring agents were investigated. Being compared with the conventional scouring agent(Ultravon GP; Ciba-guyge Co.), CPB-1 and CPB-2 showed a higher defoaming ability in the cotton scouring process at room temperature. And CPB-1 has a higher wetting effect than the agents, CPB-2 or GP in distilled water bath but CPB-2 showed more scouring effect in 1.2 wt % NaOH solution bath.

  • In this study, we applied six different norbornene dialkyl esters as a plasticizer to an isoprene rubber (IR) and evaluated replaceability of DEHP which is an endocrine disruptor. IR test sheets were prepared by blending IR, norbornene dialkyl ester, vulcanizing agent, etc. and processing properties of the IR were evaluated by measuring Toque, scorch time, cure time and mooney viscosity. Mechanical properties of IR test sheet including hardness, tensile strength, 100% modulus and elongation were also measured and the physical properties of norbornene dialkyl ester applied as a plasticizer were compared to those using DEHN. Both the maximum and minimum toque for the norbornene dialkyl ester as a plasticizer were similar to those of using DEHP. In addition, the scorch and cure time of the former were slightly longer than those of the latter. The mooney viscosity for the case of DEHN was slightly lower than that of the latter. DEHN was also superior to DEHP in terms of processing. The hardness and thermal properties of all IR test sheets were measured to be similar to each other. The linear alkyl chain of norbornene compounds also exhibited good tensile characteristics.

  • Basis for differential response of rice and E. crus-galli to cyhalofop-butyl ester (R-butyl 2-(4-(4-cyano-2-fluoro-phenoxy)phenoxy)propionate) was anatomically compared. Cell division in the growing point of E. crus-galli was severely inhibited by the herbicide, leading to malformation and irregular arrangement of cells. The inhibitory symptom of rice by cyhalofop-butyl ester appeared to be very similiar to that of E. crus-galli although its injury was negligible in rice when applied at the rate of 180ppm.

Comparative Study of DC Breakdown and Space Charge Characteristics of Insulation Paper Impregnated with Natural Ester and Mineral Oil

  • Natural ester is a suitable substitute for mineral oil and has been widely used in AC transformer in many countries. In order to further application of natural ester in direct current (DC) equipment, it is needed to investigate its long term insulation property under DC condition. In this paper, a thermal ageing experiment was conducted for both mineral oil-paper and natural ester-paper insulation. The DC breakdown and space charge characteristics of insulation paper impregnated with natural ester and mineral oil was compared. Results show that the resistivity of the paper immersed in natural ester and mineral oil both increase as the ageing goes on. While insulation paper impregnated with natural ester has higher resistivity and DC breakdown voltage than the paper impregnated with mineral oil. The DC breakdown voltage for the oil impregnated insulation paper being DC pre-stressing is higher than that without pre-stressing. The average DC breakdown field strength difference between the test with pre-stressing and without pre-stressing clearly shows that there is an apparent enhancement effect for the homo-charge injection on the DC breakdown.

Effects of Emulsifiers on the Properties of White Layer Cakes Prepared from Geurumil Flour (그루밀가루의 White Layer Cake 적성과 유화제 첨가 효과)

  • A domestic wheat variety (Geurumil flour) was evaluated for the properties of white layer cake, and compared to a commercial soft wheat flour. Geurumil flour contained more protein, ash, and lipid contents than commercial soft wheat flour. Very little difference in cake batter pH was observed between soft wheat flour and Geurumil flour, and the addition of emulsifiers tended to decrease the pH of Geurumil cake batter The specific gravity of the cake batter was lower in Geurumil flour than in soft wheat flour, and decreased effectively by the addition of emulsifiers due to batter aeration. Specific loaf volume was influenced by the addition of emulsifiers and demonstrated the highest values at the level of 1 ~ 2%. Addition of Ester-400 (monoglyceride) showed better cake properties in terms of volume, symmetry and uniformity index than sucrose-fatty acid ester did, and thus appeared to be more effective in improving baking performance. The changes in firmness of cakes during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ were observed, and Ester-400 showed some Positive effects on retarding cake staling.

  • Present experiment in vivo shows that some conversions of active groups in chloramphenicol residue of ester, that is hydrolytic cleavage of dichloracetamide and glucuronide formation, seem to take place prior to hydrolysis. This result suggest that the enzymatic hydrolysis rate in vitro, is not available as an index for the evaluation of the chlorampherical ester potency.

  • Synthetic procedures to synthesize fenbufen-acetaminophen ester were searched by acid chloride method, DCC method and mixed acid anhydride method. The compound was synthesized by DCC method and mixed acid anhydride method but could not be synthesized by acid chloride method. Its anti-inflammatory activity was superior to acetaminophen and similar to fenbufen.

  • The recovery of three ethyl esters (aroma model compounds; ethyl acetate, ethyl propionate. ethyl butyrate) from aqueous solutions was studied for vapor permeation with surface-modified hydrophobic alumina membrane, Although the driving force of ethyl butyrate is the highest, the ethyl butyrate concentration in permeate is lower than those of propionate and acetate. Since the solubility of aroma compounds for water is very low, phase separation occurred in permeate, and we could obtain pure ethyl esters. The experimental results showed that the porous hydrophobic alumina membrane had high selectivity and permeation flux on the ester-model compounds.
