The compositions of amino acid in the protein and total fatty acid of Dendrolimus spectabilis were analyzed quantitatively by HPLC and GC, respectively. The contents of crude oil and protein from the extracts were 21.00% and 58.47%, respectively. The amount of free amino acids in the protein was 3.65g/100g, and 1.31g/100g of essential amino acids was contained in the free amino acids. The amount of total amino acids in the protein was 41.20g/100g, and 14.75g/100g of essential amino acids were contained in the total amino acid. The compositions of fatty acid in the oil were $C_{18}$=26.81%, $C_{16}$=19.09%, $C_{18:1}$=18.74%, $C_{18:3}$=15.33%, $C_{16:1}$=7.29%, $C_{20}$=5.21% in order, respectively. 45.88% of unsaturated fatty acids were contained in the oil.
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (${\omega}$-3 PUFAs) are essential nutrients for human beings and their potential roles against cancer development and progression have become of wide concern recently. Some studies have suggested that perioperative supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids may have beneficial effects in gastrointestinal cancer patients undergoing surgery, while other researchers reported contrary results. This paper reviews recent research to establish therapeutic effects as well as possible underlying mechanisms of ${\omega}$-3 PUFA actions, and to help explain possible reasons for inconsistent results from different institutions.
Osteoporosis is the most common form of metabolic bone disease and is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly and especially in postmenopausal women. The possible beneficial action of essential fatty acids and their metabolites both in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis needs attention. Therefore in this study, fatty acid levels of the normal groups was compared with those of patients. And then star symbol plots were drawn based on the fatty acids values of patients normalized to the corresponding normal group values to transform into visual patterns discriminating from the normal pattern. The effects of essential oils on pH, pathogens, and volatile fatty acids (VFA) in two poultry litters were investigated through a lab study. Essential oil-added poultry litters were randomly divided to two groups: control (200 g poultry litter) and Treatment (50 g thymol/Briefly, 200 g broiler litter was treated with or without 50 g thymol (Control and T1, respectively; 1 groups) and 200 g duck litter was treated with or without 50 g carvacrol (Control and T2, respectively; 2 group). Adding thymol to broiler litter increased the pH, reduced pathogens, and did not affect VFA. Interestingly, adding carvacrol slightly reduced the pH of duck litter, but had no significant effect on reducing pathogens and VFA. This difference is probably because the essential oil used and the properties of the two litters are different. In addition, pH was thought to control the odor generated from the litter, but this has not been proven. Further field studies should focus on clarifying this point.
Changes in taste components of Backilju, an traditional alcoholic beverage of Korea, were investigated. Ethanol(17%) was the most abundant, and then isoamylalcohol(23mg%) and methanol(8mg%) were also detected in a small amount in Backilju. Major non-volatile organic acids were lactic and malic acid, followed by citric, fumaric and succinic acid. Arginine, phenylalanine and glutamic acid were major free amino acids and essential amino acid content was 230∼560 mg%, which was 45∼48% of total free amino acids. The major fatty acid of total lipid was palmitic acid(37∼43%). It has been found that the Backilju contained more free amino acids and alcohols than other Korean Yokjus.

The compositions of amino acid in the protein and fatty acid in the lipid of Lespedeza x chiisanensis T. LEE were analyzed by HPLC and GC, respectively. The contents of crude oil and protein from the extracts were 11.13% and 5.18%, respectively. The amount of free anino acids in the protein was 443.14mg/100g, and 94.84mg/100g of essential amino acid were contained in the free amino acid. The amount of total amino acids in the protein was 3159.85mg/100g, and 1068.18mg/100g of essential amino acid were contained in the total amino acid. The compositions of fatty acid in the lipid were $C_{18\;:\;2}=45.05%,\;C_{18\;:\;3}=18.71%,\;C_{19}=14.70%,C_{18\;:\;1}=6.81%,\;C_{16}=4.35%,\;C_{16\;:\;1}=1.59%$ in order, respectively. 72.44% of unsaturated fatty acids were contained in the lipid.
This study was conducted to investigate the major chemical components of dried broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica Plenck) sprouts. The proximate compositions of broccoli sprouts as dry matter basis were 2.04% of moisture content, 22.04% of crude protein, 12.80% of crude fat, 6.25% of crude ash, and 56.87% of carbohydrate, respectively. The major free sugars were identified as ribose, glucose and fructose. Analysing total amino acids, 15 kinds of components isolated from broccoli sprouts. The essential amino acid contained in broccoli sprouts accounted for 45.62% of total amino acid, while the non-essential amino acid accounted for 54.38%. Fatty acids were 3.19% of saturated fatty acids, 14.42% of monounsaturated fatty acids and 82.39% of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Cis-11,14-eicosatrienoic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid were the major fatty acids among 14 fatty acids detected in dried broccoli sprouts. Lactic acid was the major organic acids. The contents of vitamin A and vitamin E were 0.06 mg% and 0.82 mg%, respectively. The mineral contents of dried broccoli sprouts were greater in order of Cu

Free fatty acids are converted to acyl-CoA by long-chain acyl-CoA synthetases (ACSLs) before entering into metabolic pathways for lipid biosynthesis or degradation. ACSL family members have highly conserved amino acid sequences except for their N-terminal regions. Several reports have shown that ACSL1, among the ACSLs, is located in mitochondria and mainly leads fatty acids to the β-oxidation pathway in various cell types. In this study, we investigated how ACSL1 was localized in mitochondria and whether ACSL1 overexpression affected fatty acid oxidation (FAO) rates in C2C12 myotubes. We generated an ACSL1 mutant in which the N-terminal 100 amino acids were deleted and compared its localization and function with those of the ACSL1 wild type. We found that ACSL1 adjoined the outer membrane of mitochondria through interaction of its N-terminal region with carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1b (CPT1b) in C2C12 myotubes. In addition, overexpressed ACSL1, but not the ACSL1 mutant, increased FAO, and ameliorated palmitate-induced insulin resistance in C2C12 myotubes. These results suggested that targeting of ACSL1 to mitochondria is essential in increasing FAO in myotubes, which can reduce insulin resistance in obesity and related metabolic disorders.
Obesity, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), is excessive fat accumulation that can pose health risks and is a disorder of the energy homeostasis system. In typical westernized diets, ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) vastly exceed the amount of ω-3 PUFAs, with ω-6/ω-3 ratios ranging from 10:1 to 25:1. ω-6 PUFAs, such as arachidonic acid, have pro-inflammatory effects and increase obesity. On the other hand, ω-3 PUFAs, including eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, have anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects. Linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) are synthesized in almost all higher plants, algae, and some fungi. However, in humans and animals, they are essential fatty acids and must be consumed through diet or supplementation. Therefore, balancing LA/ALA ratios is essential for obesity prevention and human health. Monogastric animals such as pigs and chickens can produce meat and eggs fortified with ω-3 PUFAs by controlling dietary fatty acid (FA). Additionally, ruminant animals such as feeder cattle and lactating dairy cows can opt for feed supplementation with ω-3 PUFAs sources and rumen-protected microencapsulated FAs or pasture finishing. This method can produce ω-3 PUFAs and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) fortified meat, milk, and cheese. A high ω-6/ω-3 ratio is associated with proinflammation and obesity, whereas a balanced ratio reduces inflammation and obesity. Additionally, probiotics containing lactic acid bacteria are necessary, which reduces inflammation and obesity by converting ω-6 PUFAs into functional metabolites such as 10-hydroxy-cis-12-octadecenoic acid and CLA.
In avian species, addition of aspirin to the diet was shown to improve the egg production and to elevate the proportion of essential fatty acid contents in several body tissues. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary aspirin on the accumulation of essential fatty acids in egg yolk. Laying Japanese quail at 170 days of age were fed practical diets supplemented with graded levels (0, 0.4 and 0.8%) of aspirin for 2 weeks. There were no significant differences in final body weight and liver weight. Food intake and egg weight on the 0.8% aspirin diet were significantly lower than those on the 0 or 0.4% aspirin diet. In the liver and egg yolk lipids, the 16:0 in birds fed the 0.8% aspirin diet was significantly higher than that in birds fed the aspirin-free diet. However, the proportion of n-6 poly-unsaturated fatty acids was not affected by feeding aspirin diets.
