Since a flash light produces enormous amount of photon energy in short time, not only electro-optic and infrared(EO/IR) systems utilized for Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and reconnaissance(ISTAR) activities but also the people of a combat field can be severely influenced by a high flash light bursting in front of them. The people who bumped into a flash could not escape such enormous amount of photon energy, resulting in being blind temporarily or even permanently. In order to investigate the effect of a high flash source on a human eye, it is essential to know how much photon energy be incident into an eye from the flash source. In this paper, the model of irradiated photon energy to individuals from some flashes is proposed. The proposed irradiated photon energy per unit area of retina is based on taking the situation to be modeled as a simple EO system in front of a flash light. The validity of proposed model was proved by the application of the model to human on the surface of the earth with the well known light source, the Sun. The model of this study can be utilized to simulate the retinal intensity and energy of a flash for various conditions such as the illumination levels, the distance from a flash busting site, luminous intensity and time of a flash.
We perform Lyα radiative transfer calculations for reproducing Lyα properties of star-forming galaxies at high redshifts. We model a galaxy as a halo in which the density distributions of Lyα sources and HI plus dust medium are described with exponential functions. We also consider an outflow of the medium that represents a momentum-driven wind in a gravitational potential well. We demonstrate that this outflowing halo model with Lyα scattering can successfully reproduce both the spectrum and the surface brightness profile of eight star-forming galaxies at z=3-6 observed with MUSE. The best-fit model parameters (i.e., the outflowing velocity and optical depth) for these galaxies are in good agreement with other studies. We also demonstrate benefits of using spectrum and surface brightness profile simultaneously to the constraints on model parameters and thus spatial/kinematic distributions of medium. We examine the impacts of individual model parameters and intrinsic spectrum on emerging spectrum and surface brightness profile. Further investigations on the escape fraction, spatially resolved spectra, and the spatial extent of Lyα halos are presented as well.

Two global optimization methods, the SCE-UA method and the Annealing-simplex (A-S) method for calibrating a daily rainfall-runoff model, a Tank model, was compared with that of the Downhill Simplex method. The performance of the four objective functions, DRMS (daily root mean square), HMLE (heteroscedastic maximum likelihood estimator), ABSERR (mean absolute error), and NS (Nash-Sutcliffe measure), was tested and synthetic data and historical data were used. In synthetic data study. 100% success rates for all objective functions were obtained from the A-S method, and the SCE-UA method was also consistently able to obtain good estimates. The downhill simplex method was unable to escape from local optimum, the worst among the methods, and converged to the true values only when the initial guess was close to the true values. In the historical data study, the A-S method and the SCE-UA method showed consistently good results regardless of objective function. An objective function was developed with combination of DRMS and NS, which putted more weight on the low flows.

Accidents on offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs) usually cause serious fatalities and financial losses considering demanding environment platforms locate and complex topsides structure platforms own. Evacuation planning on platforms is usually challenging. The computational tool is a good choice to plan evacuation by emergency simulation. However, the complex structure of platforms and varied evacuation behaviors usually weaken the advantages of computational simulation. Therefore, this study developed a simulation model for OOGPs to evaluate different evacuation plans to improve evacuation performance by integrating building information modeling (BIM) and agent-based model (ABM). The developed model consists of four parts: evacuation model input, simulation environment modeling, agent definition, and simulation and comparison. Necessary platform information is extracted from BIM and then used to model simulation environment by integrating matrix model and network model. During agent definition, in addition to basic characteristics, environment sensing and dynamic escape path planning functions are also developed to improve simulation performance. An example OOGP BIM topsides with different emergent scenarios is used to illustrate the developed model. The results showed that the developed model can well simulate evacuation on OOGPs and improve evacuation performance. The developed model was also suggested to be applied to other industries such as the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.

In this paper, we propose quantitative evaluation method that enable security comparison between Security Container Runtimes. security container runtime technologies have been developed to address security issues such as Container escape caused by containers sharing the host kernel. However, most literature provides only a analysis of the security of container technologies using rough metrics such as the number of available system calls, making it difficult to compare the secureness of container runtimes quantitatively. While the proposed model uses a new method of combining the degree of exposure of host system calls with various external vulnerability metrics. With the proposed technique, we measure and compare the security of runC (Docker default Runtime) and two representative Security Container Runtimes, gVisor, and Kata container.

We investigate the escape of $Ly{\beta}$ from emission nebulae with a significant population of excited hydrogen atoms in the level n = 2, rendering them optically thick in $H{\alpha}$. The transfer of $Ly{\beta}$ line photons in these optically thick regions is complicated by the presence of another scattering channel leading to re-emission of $H{\alpha}$, alternating their identities between $Ly{\beta}$ and $H{\alpha}$. In this work, we develop a Monte Carlo code to simulate the transfer of $Ly{\beta}$ line photons incorporating the scattering channel into $H{\alpha}$. Both $H{\alpha}$ and $Ly{\beta}$ lines are formed through diffusion in frequency space, where a line photon enters the wing regime after a fairly large number of resonance scatterings with hydrogen atoms. Various line profiles of $H{\alpha}$ and $Ly{\beta}$ emergent from our model nebulae are presented. It is argued that the electron temperature is a critical parameter which controls the flux ratio of emergent $Ly{\beta}$ and $H{\alpha}$. Specifically for $T\;=\;3{\times}10^4\;K$ and $H{\alpha}$ line center optical depth $\tau{\alpha}\;=\;10$, the number flux ratio of emergent $Ly{\beta}$ and $H{\alpha}$ is ~ 49 percent, which is quite significant. We propose that the leaking $Ly{\beta}$ can be an interesting source for the formation of $H{\alpha}$ wings observed in many symbiotic stars and active galactic nuclei. Similar broad $H{\alpha}$ wings are also expected in $Ly{\alpha}$ emitting halos found in the early universe, which can be potentially probed by the James Webb Telescope in the future.

This study was conducted to determine the effects Wonjiseokchangpo-san on brain damage in transient focal cerebral ischemia. Rats were used for testing in the following three models: Morris Water Maze, Eight-Arm Radial Maze, and Histochemistry. In the Morris Water Maze Model, the Wonjiseokchangpo-san group showed significant decrease in the 3rd and 6th training session compared with the ischemia group. A retention test, in the Morris Water Maze Model, was performed on the 7th day without the escape platform. The Wonjiseokchangpo-san group showed significant increase compared to the ischemia group. In the Eight-Arm radial Maze model, the Wonjiseokchangpo-san group showed significant decrease in the error rate compared to the ischemia group. In the density of hippocampal CA1 cell of the cresyl violet-stained section, the Wonjiseokahangpo-san group showed significant increase compared to the ischemia group. These results suggest that Wonjiseokchangpo-san may have a significant protective effect on brain damage and cognitive dysfunction in transient focal cerebral ischemia.

This paper presents the issue that is predicting the movement of an agent in an enclosed space by using the MDP (Markov Decision Process). Recent researches on the optimal path finding are confined to derive the shortest path with the use of deterministic algorithm such as $A^*$ or Dijkstra. On the other hand, this study focuses in predicting the path that the agent chooses to escape the limited space as time passes, with the stochastic method. The MDP reward structure from GIS (Geographic Information System) data contributed this model to a feasible model. This model has been approved to have the high predictability after applied to the route of previous armed red guerilla.
