  • Generally, While position type fuzzy controller has good performance in transient period, it has uniform steady state error of response. While velocity type fuzzy controller is capable of reducing steady state error of response, it is hard to develop the performance in transient period. In order to have both good performance in transient period and ability to reduce the steady state error of response, weighting fuzzy controller, which is composed of these two fuzzy controllers, is proposed. For the decision of weight to each fuzzy controller, Weighting fuzzy set is established according to the system state variables and applied to each fuzzy controller. The proposed weighted fuzzy controller has the merits of both position type fuzzy controller and velocity type fuzzy controller simultaneously.

  • This paper investigates the performance of IEEE 802.11p wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system in small-scale fading models reported by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). We redesign the small-scale fading models to be applied to the computer simulation and develop the IEEE 802.11p WAVE physical layer simulator to provide the bit error rate and packet error rate performances. Moreover, a new channel estimator using decision directed channel estimation and linear minimum mean square error smoothing is proposed in order to improve the performance of the conventional least square channel estimator using two identical long training symbols. The simulation results are satisfactorily coincident with the scenarios of Georgia Tech report, and the proposed channel estimator significantly outperforms the conventional channel estimator.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop safety competences, a set of behavioral indicators of each competence and measuring methods of behavioral indicators for preventing human error of nuclear power plants(NPPs). The safety competences and behavioral indicators were derived from the five steps consisted of derivation of preliminary competence items through literature review, content analysis, interview(FGI, BEI), examination of content validity and decision making of final indicators. The results showed that 13 core safety competences and 35 behavior indicators were derived finally. In addition, the methods of measuring safety competences or behavioral indicators such as Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS), Behavior Observation Scale (BOS) were developed and suggested.

  • The number of neutron signals from a neutral particle beam(NPB) at the detector, without any errors, obeys Poisson distribution, Under two assumptions that NPB scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular Gaussian distribution respectively, an exact probability distribution of signals becomes a Poisson-power function distribution. In this paper, we show that the error rate in simple hypothesis testing for the limiting Poisson-power function distribution is not zero. That is, the limit of ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ is zero when Poisson parameter$\kappa\rightarro\infty$, but this limit is not zero (i.e., $\rho\ell$>0)for the Poisson-power function distribution. We also give optimal decision algorithms for a specified error rate.

  • A new SCEE(Syndrome Check Error Estimation) decoding method for convolutional code and concatenated SCEE/RS (Reed-Solomon) conding scheme are proposed. First, we describe the operation of the decoding steps in the proposed algorithm. Then deterministic values on the decoding operation are drived when some combination of predecoder-reencoder is used. Computer simulation results show that the compuatational complexity of the proposed SCEE decoder is significantly reduced compared to that of conventional Viterbi-decoder without degratation of the $P_{e}$ performance. Also, the concatenated SCEE/RS decoder has almost the same complexity of a RS decoder and its coding gain is higher than that of soft decision Viterbi or RS decoder respectively.

  • Most pattern classifiers have been designed based on the ML (Maximum Likelihood) training algorithm which is simple and relatively powerful. The ML training is an efficient algorithm to individually estimate the model parameters of each class under the assumption that all class models in a classifier are statistically independent. That assumption, however, is not valid in many real situations, which degrades the performance of the classifier. In this paper, we propose a minimum-error-rate training algorithm based on the MAP (Maximum a Posteriori) approach. The algorithm regards the normalized outputs of the classifier as estimates of the a posteriori probability, and tries to maximize those estimates. According to Bayes decision theory, the proposed algorithm satisfies the condition of minimum-error-rate classificatin. We apply this algorithm to NPM (Neural Prediction Model) for speech recognition, and derive new disrminative training algorithms. Experimental results on ten Korean digits recognition have shown the reduction of 37.5% of the number of recognition errors.

  • In this paper, we studied the effects of the power control imperfection on the system performances of a microcellular DS/CDMA system. The maximum user capacity, defined as the maximum number of users can be serviced simultaneouly, meeting a given voice quality, is first considered. Then the performence degradation due to the control error is analyzed. The frequency selective Raician channel model is used to characterize a microcellular mobile communication environment. The DS/CDMA system under consideration uses BPSK modulation and convolutional coding/Viterbe decoding with soft decision for forward error correction. It is shown that the user capacity falls linearly down with the increase of the power control error(in terms of the standard deviation in dB) and the interference from users outside the third tier cells have a minor effect on the performance. And the performance of DS/CDMA with the imperfect power control model is made to be less than 50% of that with perfect power control moded.

  • SACOM(Simulation Analyser with Cognitive Operator Model) is being developed at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to simulate human operator's cognitive characteristics during the emergency situations of nuclear power plans. An operator model with error mechanisms has been developed and combined into SACOM to simulate human operator's cognitive information process based on the Rasmussen's decision ladder model. The operational logic for five different cognitive activities (Agents), operator's attentional control (Controller), short-term memory (Blackboard), and long-term memory (Knowledge Base) have been developed and implemented on blackboard architecture. A trial simulation with a scenario for emergency operation has been performed to verify the operational logic. It was found that the operator model with error mechanisms is suitable for the simulation of operator's cognitive behavior in emergency situation.

  • The Reed-Muller code is one of the efficient algorithms for multiple bit error correction, however, its high-computation requirement inherent in the decoding process prohibits its use in practical applications. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a graphics processing unit (GPU)-based parallel error control approach using Reed-Muller R(r, m) coding for real-time wireless communication systems. GPU offers a high-throughput parallel computing platform that can achieve the desired high-performance decoding by exploiting massive parallelism inherent in the algorithm. In addition, we compare the performance of the GPU-based approach with the equivalent sequential approach that runs on the traditional CPU. The experimental results indicate that the proposed GPU-based approach exceedingly outperforms the sequential approach in terms of execution time, yielding over 70× speedup.

  • In this paper, we present a carrier recovery circuit using the polarity-decision algorithm that recovers a phase and a frequency error simultaneously. The proposed algorithm catches a frequency error based on a differential of an angular velocity of the signal constellations. Using the differential of a phase error may compensate the frequency error. The symbol prediction method in the proposed algorithm accumulates the symbols, which makes easy to calculate a phase differential. The hardware size of the algerian is small since we use Q data or I only to get phase information. As a result, the algerian shows a pull-in range of normalized frequency error 0.5 under AWGN 15dB.
