The capacity of MIMO systems is numerically analyzed when channel estimation error exists. The analysis shows that the capacity is influenced by Mean Square Error (MSE) as well as average Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Furthermore, in this paper we present the standard selecting a channel estimator suitable to a system owing to get a tolerable channel estimation error in a given average SNR and channel capacity loss. The simulation results show that the tolerable MSEs for 1 bps/Hz capacity loss are about 10$^{-2}$ and 10$^{-4}$ at n dB and 40 dB average SNR, respectively.

Underwater acoustic navigation systems are classified into three systems: ultra-short baseline (USBL), short baseline (SBL), and long baseline (LBL). Because the USBL system estimates the angle of a submersible, the estimation error becomes large if the submersible is far from the USBL transducer array mounted under a support vessel. SBL and LBL systems estimate submersible's location more accurately because they have wider distribution of measuring sensors. Especially LBL systems are widely used as a navigation system for deep ocean applications. Although it is most accurate system it still has estimation errors because of noise, measurement error, refraction and multi-path of acoustic signal, or wrong information of the distributed transponders. In this paper the estimation error of the LBL system are analyzed from a point of sensitivity. It is assumed that the error exists only in the distance between a submersible and the transponders. For this purpose sensitivity of the estimated position with respect to relative distances between them is analyzed. The result says that estimation error is small if the submersible is close to transponders but not near the ocean bottom.
Measurement error is one of main source of error in survey. It is generally defined as the difference between an observed value and an underlying true value. An observed value with error may be expressed as a function of the true value plus error term. In some cases, the measurement error variance may be also a function of the unknown true value. The error variance function can be rewritten as a function of true value multiplied by a scale factor. This research explore methods for estimation of the measurement error variance based on the data from complex sampling design. We consider the case in which the variance of mesurement error is a linear function of unknown true value, and the error variance scale factor is small. We applied our results to the U.S. Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (the U.S. NHANES III) data for empirical analyses, which has replicate measurements for relatively small subset of initial respondents's group.

In this paper, a technique ot estimate center positions of the circular parts under noisy condition is presented. The circle chords are segmented from the circle with successively varying angle and weighted to reduce the center estimation errors effected by the orientations of the circle chords. The weighting factors for variable length chords are adaptively detemined according to the error contribution of each chord in center estimation. Robust estimation of the center positions of the circular parts are possible even though the edge informations are partially contaminated by the non-uniform lighting or the background textures. Computer simulations for several images which are obtained for same object under real environment y camera, show that the proposed techniqeu yields 1.85 and 2.77 of estimated error-distribution for center position and radius in mean square error, that the proposed has more robust estimation than those of the conventional methods.

The antenna pattern in this case has a main beam pointed in the desired signal direction, and has a null in the direction of the interference. The conventional antenna pattern concepts of beam width, side lobes, and main beams are not used, as the antenna weights are designed to achieve a set performance criterion such as maximization of the output SNR.A new direction of arrival estimation method using effects of model errors and sensitivity analysis is proposed. Two subspaces are used to form a signal space whose phase shift between the reference signal and its effects of model error signal. Through simulation, the performance showed that the proposed method leads to increased resolution and improved accuracy of DOA estimation relative to those achieved with existing method. Since a desired signal is obtained after interference rejection through correction effects of model error, the effect of channel interference on the estimation is significantly reduced.
Dead time is typically incorporated in voltage source inverter systems to prevent short circuit cases. However, dead time causes an error between the output voltage and reference voltage. Hence, voltage equation-based algorithms, such as motor parameter estimation and back electromotive force (EMF)-based sensorless algorithms, are prone to estimation errors. Several dead-time compensation methods have been developed to reduce output voltage errors. However, voltage errors are still common in zero current crossing areas, and an effect of the error is much worse in a low speed region. Therefore, employing voltage equation-based algorithms in low speed regions is difficult. This study analyzes the conventional dead-time compensation method and output voltage errors in low speed operation areas. A current shaping method that can reduce output voltage errors is also proposed. Experimental results prove that the proposed method reduces voltage errors and improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation method and the performance of the back EMF-based sensorless algorithm.
Polynomial errors-in-variables model with one predictor variable and one response variable is defined and an estimator of model is derived following the Booth's linear model estimation procedure. Since polynomial model is nonlinear function of the unknown regression coefficients and error-free predictors, it is nonlinear model in errors-in-variables model. As a result of applying linear model estimation method to nonlinear model, some additional assumptions are necessary. Hence, an estimator is derived under the assumption that the error variances are decrasing as sample size increases. Asymptotic propoerties of the derived estimator are provided. A simulation study is presented to compare the small sample properties of the derived estimator with those of OLS estimator.

In the re-entry control system, errors apt to induce because the time derivative of drag acceleration is analytically estimated. Still more, the difficulty of estimation of the exact drag coefficient in hypersonic velocity and the nun-reality of the scale height cause a steady-state drag error. This paper proposes the additional method of the disturbance observer. This reduces the steady-state drag error according to the following series. First, this method estimates a error in drag acceleration time derivative by the analytic calculation and then creates the new drag acceleration time derivative using the estimated error. The performance of the re-entry control system is verified about 32 reference trajectories.
In computing eigenvalues for a large finite element system it has been observed that the eigenvalue extractors produce eigenvectors that are in some sense more accurate than their corresponding eigenvalues. From this observation the paper uses a patch type technique based on the eigenvector for one mesh quality to provide an eigenvalue error indicator. Tests show this indicator to be both accurate and reliable. This technique was first observed by Stephen and Steven for an error estimation for buckling and natural frequency of beams and two dimensional in-plane and out-of-plane structures. This paper produces and error indicator for the more difficult problem of three dimensional brick elements.

This paper presents a method that estimates distance and velocity of an object with reliability regardless of maneuver status of the target in stereo vision system. A stereo vision system can calculate a distance with disparity from left and right images. However, the distance estimation error may occur due to quantization error of image pixel. A sub-pixel interpolation method minimizes the quantization error and estimates accurate disparity with real value. Extended Kalman filter (EKF) was used to minimize the error covariance and estimate the object's velocity. However, divergence problem occurs due to model uncertainty when a target maneuvers highly, which makes the estimation error increase. In this paper, we propose a virtual model extended Kalman filter (VMEKF) method that minimizes the processing time and provides reliable estimation ability regardless of maneuver status. Computer simulations and experimental results in real road environments demonstrate that the proposed method gives a reliable estimation performance and reduces processing time under various maneuver status while comparing other estimation filters.
