A method is proposed for the choice of the number of principal components in principal component regression based on the predicted error sum of squares. To do this, we approximately evaluate that statistic using a linear approximation based on the perturbation expansion. In this paper, we apply the proposed method to various data sets and discuss some properties in choosing the number of principal components in principal component regression.

This paper proposes precision evaluation method for the positioning error of three-DOF translational parallel mechanism. The proposed method uses conventional CMM as metrology equipment to measure the position of end-effector. In order to obtain accurate measurement data from CMM, the transform relationship between the coordinate system of the parallel mechanism and the CMM coordinate system must be identified. For this purpose, a new coordinate referencing (or coordinate system identification) technique is presented. By using this technique accurate coordinate transformation relationships are efficiently established. According to these coordinate transformation relationships, an equation to calculate error components at any arbitrary position of the end-effector is derived. In addition, mathematical fitting models to represent the position error components in the two-dimensional workspace of the parallel mechanism are also constructed based on response surface methodology. The proposed error evaluation method proves its effectiveness through the experimental results and its application to real three-DOF parallel mechanism.

This paper discusses the use of projections for the sums of squares in the analyses of variance for two-way nested design data. The model for this data is assumed to only have random effects. Two different sizes of experimental units are required for a given experimental situation, since nesting is assumed to occur both in the treatment structure and in the design structure. So, variance components are coming from the sources of random effects of treatment factors and error terms in different sizes of experimental units. The model for this type of experimental situation is a random effects model with more than one error terms and therefore estimation of variance components are concerned. A projection method is used for the calculation of sums of squares due to random components. Squared distances of projections instead of using the usual reductions in sums of squares that show how to use projections to estimate the variance components associated with the random components in the assumed model. Expectations of quadratic forms are obtained by the Hartley's synthesis as a means of calculation.

For general geometry of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), volumetric error equation including 21 systematic error components was showed using vector expression. Different types of CMM listed on an international standard (BS 6808) were classified according to their geometry, and the general volumetric error equation was used for the CMMs. Application of volumetric error equation was also introduced, such as position error compensation, error equation of CNC-machine and parametric error analysis, etc.

The error rate performance of circularly distributed antenna system is studied over Nakagami-m fading channels, where a dual-channel receiver is employed for the quadrature phase shift keying signals detection. To mitigate the Co-Channel Interference (CCI) caused by the adjacent cells and to save the transmit power, this work presents remote antenna unit selection transmission based on the best channel quality and the maximized path-loss, respectively. The commonly used Gaussian and Q-function approximation method in which the CCI and the noise are assumed to be Gaussian distributed fails to depict the precise system performance according to the central limit theory. To this end, this work treats the CCI as a random variable with random variance. Since the in-phase and the quadrature components of the CCI are correlated over Nakagami-m fading channels, the dependency between the in-phase and the quadrature components is also considered for the error rate analysis. For the special case of Rayleigh fading in which the dependency between the in-phase and the quadrature components can be ignored, the closed-form error rate expressions are derived. Numerical results validate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis, and a comparison among different transmission schemes is also performed.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between ocular components and refractive error for human eye. Ocular components were measured by keratometry, phakometry, and ultrasonography. Refractive error was measured by subjective refraction on 38 subjects aged from 17 to 30. The results were as follows; 1) Refractive error and axial length, vitreous chamber depth, axial length/corneal radius were highly correlated that the correlation coefficients were 0.95, 0.96, 0.95, respectively. 2) Refractive error and corneal radius, corneal power, lens thickness were correlated with the correlation coefficients for 0.60, 0.66, 0.67 respectively. 3) There were no significant correlation between refractive error and corneal thickness.

Hardware components are an integral part of Hardware Define Radio (HDR) for seamless operations and optimal performance. On the other hand, Software Define Radio (SDR) is a program that does not rely on any hardware components for its performance. Both of the latter radio programmers utilize modulation functions to make their core components from signal processing viewpoint. The following paper concentrates on SDR based modulation and their performance under different modulations. The bit error rate (BER) of modulations such as PSK, QAM, and PSAM were used as indicators to test channel quality estimation in planar Rayleigh fading. Though it is not commonly used for channel fading, the method of the adder determines the regionally segmented channel fading. Thus, the estimation error of the channel change substantially reduces the performance of the signal, hence, proving to be an effective option. Moreover, this paper also elaborates that BER is calculated as a function of the sample size (signal length) with an average of 20 decibels. Consequently, the size of the results for different modulation schemes has been explored. The analytical results through derivations have been verified through computer simulation. The results focused on parameters of amplitude estimation error for 1dB reduction in the average signal-to-noise ratio, while the combined amplitude deviation estimation error results are obtained for a 3.5 dB reduction

We present a permanent magnet-based spherical wheel motor that can be used in omnidirectional mobility applications. The proposed motor consists of a ball-shaped rotor with a magnetic dipole and a hemispherical shell with circumferential air-core coils attached to the outer surface acting as a stator. Based on the rotational symmetry of the rotor poles and stator coils, we are able to model the rotor poles and stator coils as dipoles. A simple physical model constructed based on a torque model enables fast numerical simulations of motor dynamics. Based on these numerical simulations, we test various control schemes that enable constant-speed rotation along arbitrary axes with small rotational attitude error. Torque analysis reveals that the back electromotive force induced in the coils can be used to construct a control scheme that achieves the desired results. Numerical simulations of trajectories confirm that even without explicit methods for correcting the rotational attitude error, it is possible to drive the motor with a low attitude error (<5°) using the proposed control scheme.

To make the autonomous mobile robot move in the unknown space, we have to know the information of current location of the robot. So far, the location information that was obtained using Encoder always includes Dead Reckoning Error, which is accumulated continuously and gets bigger as the distance of movement increases. In this paper, we analyse the effect of the size of the two wheels of the mobile robot and the wheel track of them among the factors of Dead Reckoning Error. And after this, we compensate this Dead Reckoning Error by Kalman filter using Gyro Sensors. To accomplish this, we develop the controller to analyse the error components of Gyro Sensor and to minimize the error values. We employ the numerical approach to analyse the error components by linearizing them because each error component is nonlinear. And we compare the improved result through simulation.

During last years, large investments have been directed to development and research of nano-technological products like semiconductor, display panel, optic-fiber communication components, life technology, and ultra-precision components. All quantitative measurements at nanometre scale should guarantees accurate results and high quality. Laser interferometer is one of most famous nanometre scale devices to be able to measure metre-scale distance with nanometre scale resolution, but it is easily affected by various error causes like geometrical, instrumental and environmental factor. On the other side, capacitive sensor is robust to above error factors, but it is able to measure relatively shorter distance, under $100{\mu}m$, than laser interferometer. New error correction method for laser interferometry using capacitive sensor will be introduced in this paper.
