  • In this study, the Ergun's equation has been verified in order to calculate pressure drop of the two phase flow. The equation had been used in the high Reynolds number region for interior ballistic analysis in spite of being verified in the low Reynolds number region. Therefore additional verification seems to be inevitable. Thus, the validity of the equation has been verified using CFD in the high Reynolds number cases of the diameter-particle ratio 10, 13 and 16.

  • Characteristics of the pressure drop in an expanded bed have been compared to those in a packed bed for numerical study of the interphase drag in gas-particle flows. A numerical analysis of the pressure drop by the particle drag has been conducted according to the tube-to-particle diameter ratios and Reynolds numbers for comparison. As the tube-to-particle diameter ratios increase at the same Reynolds number, the pressure drop tends to converge. It has been confirmed that characteristics of the pressure drop in the expanded bed are similar to those in the packed bed.

  • This study proposes the characteristics of the pressure drop in a compressible fluid through porous media for application to a porous injector in a liquid rocket engine in order to improve the uniformity of the drop size distribution and the mixing performance of shear coaxial injectors. The fluid through the porous media is a Non-Darcy flow that shows a Nonlinear relation between the pressure drop and the velocity at high speed and high mass flow rate. The pressure drop of the Non-Darcy flow can be derived using the Forchheimer equation that includes the losses of viscous and inertia resistance. The permeability and Ergun coefficient represented as a function of the pressure drop and pore size can be applied to the porous injector, where the fluid through the porous media is compressible. A generalized correlation between the pressure drop in relation to the pore size was derived.

  • This study has been conducted to provide fundamental knowledge of the characteristics of pressure drop through porous metal by experimental investigation. Pressure drop of air passing through porous metal was measured. The influences of porosity and flow velocity on pressure drop were investigated and in view of friction factor, the experimental data was compared with theorical equation as known to Ergun's equation concerning unconsolid packed bed. The result of this study are as follows. The pressure drop was increased with increasing the flow velocity and at the same flow velocity with decreasing the porosity(decreasing the particle diameter), In Particular, the experimental equation for the pressure drop was derived using the particle diameter, matrix diameter and matrix thickness. The experimental data were correlated well(mean deviation ${\pm}15%$ )with the present empirical dimensionless equation.
