  • Take-overs occur in autonomous vehicles at levels 3 and 4 based on SAE. For safe take-over, it is necessary to set the time required for diverse drivers to complete take-over in various road conditions. In this study, take-over time and stabilization characteristics were measured to secure safety of take-over in autonomous vehicle. To this end, a virtual driving simulator was used to set up situations similar to those on real expressways. Fifty drivers with various sexes and ages participated in the experiment where changes in traffic volume and geometry were applied to measure change in takeover time and stabilization characteristics according to various road conditions. Experimental results show that the average take-over time was 2.3 seconds and the standard deviation was 0.1 second. As a result of analysis of stabilization characteristics, there was no difference in take-over stabilization time due to the difference of traffic volume, and there was a significant difference by curvature changes.

  • This study investigated the symptoms of work-related musculoskeletal disorder(WMSDs) for physical therapists who have different work duties. We analyzed the symptoms in the musculoskeletal system and the degree of work-harmfulness by the survey of the symptom in the musculoskeletal system and rapid upper limb assessment(RULA) for pain control group(n=56), adult exercise group(n=53), and pediatric exercise group(n=22). As a result, 69.6% of the pain control group, 84.9% of the adult exercise group, 81.8% of the pediatric exercise group show the observable symptom. The adult exercise group has the biggest work load per hour in the final wrist & arm score of the ergonomic risk assessment using RULA. The action level of the pain control group is $3.0{\pm}0.9$; the Action Level of adult exercise group is $3.3{\pm}0.6$; the Action Level of the pediatric exercise group is $3.2{\pm}0.8$, and so it is shown that the adult exercise group has a problem of working posture. It is considered that devices and education system for preventing from WMSDs should come into wide use.

  • Haptic-aided design (HAD) involves the use of a haptic simulator in place of physical prototypes in the design and development of products with which human beings interact physically. The development time and cost can be significantly reduced by adopting this HAD scheme. Although both physical and emotional factors are equally important, only the emotional factors were taken into consideration in the previous HAD process. Consequently, the design of the products was sometimes unsatisfactory from the viewpoint of ergonomics, even though users were emotionally satisfied with the products. To overcome this problem, in this study, we propose a new human-oriented design methodology that is enhanced by taking the physical factors into consideration. The HAD scheme was verified by using a haptic chair simulator to design a tilt mechanism of an office chair for which the stiffness of the backrest can be adjusted; then, the design was simulated using MADYMO. The results show that the proposed method can reflect both the physical and emotional factors to modify the design in real-time.

  • The study of the development of DJ robots is to meet the demands of the music services which are changing very rapidly in the digital and network era. Existing studies, as a whole, develop music services on the premise of personalized environment and equipment, but the DJ robot is on the premise of the open space shared by the public. DJ robot gives priority to traditional space and music. Recently as the hospitality and demand for cultural contents of South Korea expand to worldwide, industrial use of the contents based on traditional or our unique characteristics is getting more and more. Meanwhile, the DJ robot is composed of a combination of two modules. One is to detect changes in the external environment and the other is to set the properties of the music by psychology, emotional engineering, etc. DJ robot detect the footprint of the temperature, humidity, illumination, wind, noise and other environmental factors measured, and will ensure the objectivity of the music source by repeated experiments and verification with human sensibility ergonomics based on Hevner Adjective Circle. DJ robot will change the soundscape of the traditional space being more beautiful and make the revival and prosperity of traditional music with the use of traditional music through BGM.

  • For frailty management, the importance of resistance exercise has been emphasized, and various devices have been developed. Recently, digital weight control technology that converts electromagnetic resistance to a digital weight is attracting attention, but there are no reports confirming the effectiveness and safety of the device for seniors in Korea. This study conducted a biomechanic-based ergonomic analysis of an elderly-friendly exercise device utilized in digital load control technology to suggest a direction for development. Twenty seniors (age: 62.40 ± 2.09 years) were included. The load of the device was classified into three levels, and the muscle activity and heart rate were assessed during three experimental motions. A questionnaire based on the International Organization for Standardization 9241-11 was adopted to evaluate the stability, operationality, efficiency, and satisfaction with the software and device. The program could be divided into three exercise intensities that can be utilized in the field depending on whether the exercise load, muscle activity, and heart rate were consistent. The monitor size needed to be enlarged to make the menu Korean, reduce the device size, and minimize noise. Considering these findings, the development of an advanced age-friendly exercise device by improving the size, display, and noise is suggested.

  • This study analyzes human error of workers performing simple repetitive tasks, and in order to prepare preventative measures, 486 people were used as subjects. The results of the study are like the following. First, the biggest cause of human error showed to be the worker himself in $77.8\%$ of the cases, machinery showed to be the cause in $16.3\%$ of the cases and management showed to be the cause in $6.0\%$ of the cases. The results show that most of the human error occurred due to the worker performing simple repetitive tasks and the human errors showed to be caused more by bad ergonomics and long hours rather than by problems with machinery. In addition, the area with the highest rate of human error showed to be the Human Information Processing System with Task Input Error being the highest with $46.9\%$, followed by Judgement and Memory Error with $36.4\%$ and Recognition Verification Error with $16.7\%$. Although fully automated tasks may reduce the rate of human error we must focus on lowering the rate of problems arising from spontaneous errors caused by workers performing simple repetitive tasks by continuously renewing plans and budgets in order to standardize tasks by incorporating cyclic positioning according to experience and positional exchange and by inspecting the workplace to increase efficiency of the workers.

  • This study aims to analyse the research trend of the participants in Emotional Science in Korea and to suggest a desirable direction of research. I analysed the 1,262 articles published in Korean Journal of the Science of Emotion and Sensibility from 2000 to 2011 according to fields of study and keywords. The findings from the study are as follows. In the fields of study regarding Clothing Design, Psychology, Medicine, Visual Media, Brain Science they are still the top rated categories amongst participants. With the participation of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics they have shown a meaningful difference depending on governmental support such as G7 Project. The problem with Industrial Design is that the majority of studies have been performed alone, and they have many keywords which are not related with Emotional Science. However, 31 new fields of study have been added to the research making the findings more desirable considering that Emotional Science is typical interdisciplinary filed of study. I hope that this study will provide basic data which can be used to promote the interdisciplinary research between the different fields of study in order to generate significant synergy.

  • This study is aimed at enhancing mobility rights for the transportation underprivileged that has been made light of relatively compared to normal people. In order to do this, we've suggested having ITS (Intelligent Traffic System) built and improving satisfaction through the test operation of its main system. The existing sound signal device for the visually handicapped has one problem with managing it. Because, the people in charge of it had to visit each problematic site directly to maintain and fix some problems every time it was out of order. Moreover, it couldn't provide sustainable services about voice guidance and the visually handicapped had to control it by either confirming the location of buttons that were installed on the pillar of traffic light and then pressing one of them or using a remote controller on their own. In order to improve such inconveniences, we have created a new typed sound signal device for the visually handicapped by applying the cutting-edge wireless technology based on ergonomics considering actual road situations. Such technology enables it report the status of signal device and light to them by using its voice guidance system automatically every time they have access to it. Additionally, we've already introduced it to a couple of test areas and then known the fact that they recognized traffic situation more conveniently and safely compared to the existing sound signal device. That is above average in terms of satisfaction. In addition to that, we've provided LTS (Location Tracking System - Location-based service intended for elementary students) by utilizing the existing wireless infrastructure and founded the fact that about 87% of their parents were satisfied with the service based on LTS.

  • VMS(Variable Message Sign) helps drivers to choose their path to destinations on roadways. Some types of VMS often provide traffic information with clearly visible and comprehensible graphical route diagrams. Currently many diagramed types of VMS are installed on urban arterial and highways. This type of VMS surely enhances drivers' ability to comprehend traffic route information while they are driving on the roadway. Nevertheless, some of them are presented with so much information and design elements and they sometimes lead to decline of drivers' comprehensible level for traffic information. Drivers would fail to decide their preferable route in this state of information overflow. The purpose of this paper is to develop a drivers preference model for effective design principle including size and height of displaying font, and the amount of information in the route diagram considering driving speed, sex and age of the driver. This model is developed using structural equation modeling techniques. This model considers driver's emotional factor and, human factor and design component of route diagram. To collect data, we built driving simulator which is able to replicate real driving condition. 72 people who participated in the simulation were selected considering gender and age. The developed model showed that the amount of information, and visibility are more influential factors to the drivers' preference of the route diagram on VMS than design elements such as the shape and the font of the diagram.
