A novel high-Q vertical jinductor for MMICs is proposed and characterized in a wide range of frequencies (DC~10 GHz) using the numerical methods such as the PeEC(partial equivalent element circuit), the FDM (finite difference method) and the MoM (method of moments). Electrical superiority of the vertical inductor to the horizontal is observed in terms of the magnetic flux linkage and the ground screening effect. The veritcal bondwire inductor is designed in consideration of the wire bonding feasibility and the optimum electrical peformance. This structure is also analyzed using the equivalent circuit and compared with the conventional spiral inductors From the calculated results, high Q-factor, inductance, and cut-off frequency are observed to be inherent characteristics of the veritcal bondwire inductor.

In this paper, the effect of permanent magnet overhang structure on the characteristics in Brushless DC motor has analyzed quantitatively. We classified the overhang structure as symmetric and asymmetric. 3D equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method which uses the permeance as the distributive variable is used for the efficient analysis of magnetic field. The overhang effect which increases the linkage flux at the stator is verified by comparison between overhang and no overhang structure. In addition, it is known that no load back electro motive force (EMF) is also increased due to the overhang effect. In case of asymmetric overhang structure, the ratio effect of the upper to lower overhang length on the magnetic forces is analyzed. Form the analysis results, the variation of the asymmetric overhang ratio has a significant effect on the axial magnetic force except the radial and tangential magnetic forces. The validity of the analysis results is also clarified by comparison between calculated results and measured ones such as back EMF and cogging torque.

Interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) produce both magnetic and reluctance torques. The reluctance torque is due to the difference between the d- and q-axis inductances based on the geometric rotor structure. The steady-state performance analysis and precise control of the IPMSMs greatly depend on the accurate determination of the parameters. The three essential parameters of the IPMSMs are the armature flux linkage of the permanent magnet, the d-axis inductance, and the q-axis inductance. In the basic design step of an IPMSM, the inductance parameters are very important for determining the motor characteristics, such as the input voltage, torque, and efficiency. Thus, it is very important to accurately estimate the values of the motor inductances. The inductance parameters of IPMSMs have nonlinear characteristics along the magnet size because the iron core is saturated by the magnet and armature reaction fluxes. In this study, the inductance parameters were calculated using both the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and the finite-element method (FEM). Then the calculated parameters were compensated by the saturation coefficient function, which was also calculated via the magnetic-equivalent-circuit method and FEM.
A new control method for the robust position control of a brushless DC(BLDC) motor using the asymptotically stable adaptive load torque observer is presented. A precision position control is obtained for the BLDC motor system approximately linearized using the field-orientation method. And the application of the load torque observer is published in [1] using fixed gain. However, the flux linkage is not exactly known for a load torque observer. Therefore, a model reference adaptive observer is considered to overcome the problem of the unknown parameter in this paper. And stability analysis is carried out using Liapunov stability theorem. As a result, asymptotically stable observer gain can be obtained without affecting the overall system response. The load disturbance detected by the asymptotically stable adaptive observer is compensated by feedforwarding the equivalent current having the fast response.

The direct thrust control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor using digital signal processor (DSP) is presented. The motor self inductance, the initial flux linkage by the permanent magnet is calculated in advance by the finite element analysis. The equivalent circuit method and the digital signal processor are used for the simulation and experiment, respectively. The simulation and experimental results such as, thrust, current and speed responses to the commands are examined.

This paper presents a direct thrust control scheme for permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) by using digital signal processor(DSP). And a simulation method for the direct thrust control of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor using the equivalent circuit is presented. The detent force that was obtained by cubic spline method is considered in the simulation. Thrust correction coefficient is utilized to estimate actual thrust on the direct thrust control, which considers the longitudinal end effect due to the finite core length of the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor. The motor self inductance, the initial flux linkage by the permanent magnet is calculated in advance by the finite element analysis, and then the direct control simulation is carried out. As the results, thrust, current and speed are shwon.
A new control method for precision robust position control of a brushless DC (BLDC) motor using asymptotically stable adaptive load torque observer is presented in the paper. Precision position control is obtained for the BLDC motor system approximately linearized using the field-orientation method Recently, many of these drive systems use BLDC motors to avoid backlashe. However, the disadvantages of the motor are high cost and complex control because of nonlinear characteristics. Also, the load torque disturbance directly affects the motor shaft. The application of the load torque observer is published in [1] using fixed gain. However, the motor flux linkage is not exactly known for a load torque observer. There is the problem of uncertainty to obtain very high precision position control. Therefore a model reference adaptive observer is considered to overcome the problem of unknown parameter and torque disturbance in this paper. The system stability analysis is carried out using Lyapunov stability theorem. As a result, asymptotically stable observe gain can be obtained without affecting the overall system response. The load disturbance detected by the asymptotically stable adaptive observer is compensated by feedforwarding the equivalent current which gives fast response. The experimenta results are presented in the paper.

In this paper, the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy of magnetically coupled superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)s using single and double high-Tc superconducting (HTSC) elements were compared. To analyze the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy, the magnetizing current and the flux linkage, which were derived from the electrical equivalent circuit of the SFCL using single and double HTSC elements, were calculated from the voltages and the current measured in the short-circuit tests. Through the comparative analysis on the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy for SFCL using sing and double HTSC elements, the magnetically coupled SFCL using double HTSC elements was shown to be more effective than the SFCL using single HTSC element from the point of view of the magnetic saturation.

Recently, as the piezoelectric transformer technology develops, piezoelectric transformer may become a variable alternative to magnetic transformers in various applications. Because it was have to favorable characteristics such as electromagnetic-noise free, compact size, higher efficiency, and superior power density, linkage flux, noiseless, etc. its resonance frequency was used to output waveform of a sine wave. In this paper, the switching mode power supply of about 87.2[KHz] is driven by the multilayer thickness vibration mode piezoelectric transformer and the DC to DC converter drive circuit using an electrical equivalent circuit is proposed. Also, it was possible to drive power source device of the high-luminance LED by propose circuits.
