Wind-resistant performance of cable-supported bridges using carbon fiber reinforced polymer cables

  • To gain understanding of the applicability of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) cable in cable-supported bridges, based on the Runyang Bridge and Jinsha Bridge, a suspension bridge using CFRP cables and a cable-stayed bridge using CFRP stay cables are schemed, in which the cable's cross-sectional area is determined by the principle of equivalent axial stiffness. Numerical investigations on the dynamic behavior, aerostatic and aerodynamic stability of the two bridges are conducted by 3D nonlinear analysis, and the effect of different cable materials on the wind resistance is discussed. The results show that as CFRP cables are used in cable-supported bridges, (1) structural natural frequencies are all increased, and particularly great increase of the torsional frequency occurs for suspension bridges; (2) under the static wind action, structural deformation is increased, however its aerostatic stability is basically remained the same as that of the case with steel cables; (3) for suspension bridge, its aerodynamic stability is superior to that of the case with steel cables, but for cable-stayed bridge, it is basically the same as that of the case with steel stay cables. Therefore as far as the wind resistance is considered, the use of CFRP cables in cable-supported bridges is feasible, and the cable's cross-sectional area should be determined by the principle of equivalent axial stiffness.

  • In this paper, the selection of a reliable accelerated life test code for a 2-ton forklift was accomplished by choosing the driving resistance coefficient failure-free test time based on a 10,000-hour B10 life. The overall life and average equivalent load of the vehicle were then calculated based on actual driving test conditions using the selected driving resistance coefficient. The gear train's accelerated life test code was selected by adjusting the equivalent load to a torque and rotation speed that did not exceed 125%(about 75HP) of the vehicle rated power. The safety of the test standards was validated by conducting an actual accelerated life test utilizing the proposed test method in this study and comparing the test result with the corresponding theoretical value. It is anticipated that the reliability of the accelerated life test in this paper will be enhanced, by incorporating actual driving performance data collected directly from the forklift and adjusting the conditions used in developing the accelerated life test code.

Correlations between the Impedance and Compressive Strength of Hardened Cement According to the Aggregate Type

  • To date, methods used to assess the interfacial transition zone (ITZ), which represents the boundary between the aggregate and paste inside concretes, have primarily relied on destructive tests, and non-destructive tests has received little attention until recently. This study assessed the interfaces of concretes with lightweight aggregates based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for high-strength concretes and examined the possibility of estimating the compressive strength of concretes through non-destructive testing using EIS. The experimental results revealed that the impedance of the hardened cement increased with increasing compressive strength and aggregate density. In particular, when the results of impedance measurement were displayed as a Nyquist plot, the intercept of the x-axis depicting the effective conductivity was proportional to the compressive strength. Furthermore, an equivalent circuit was selected to interpret the correlation between cement aggregates and impedance. Consequently, the compressive strength was found to increase with the value of the resistances of the electrolyte filled in continuous pores in the cement aggregate. And, the pores formed in the ITZ affect this value. The resistance at the ITZ for different aggregates was also obtained, and it was found that the resistance was consistent with the results predicted by SEM images of the ITZ and correlated with the strength of the concretes. The proposed method can be used as a way to easily determine the strength of cement according to differences in aggregate.

케이블 열회로의 전기적 등가회로 변환을 이용한 케이블 허용전류 검토 방법 (A Review Method of Calculation Results on Cable Ampacity using the Transformation to Electric Equivalent Circuit from Cable Thermal Circuit)

  • Current rating of a power cable can be calculated by the maximum allowable temperature in an insulating material considering the heat transfer from cable conductor. Therefore, it is very important to calculate the current rating using electrical equivalent circuit by calculated cable thermal circuit parameters but, it has not been fully investigated yet. In this paper, in order to determine the current rating of power cable, conventional calculation method has been reviewed considering the conductor resistance, loss factor of sheath, dielectric losses and thermal resistances based on the maximum allowable temperature of 345 kV $2500mm^2$ XLPE cable. To confirm the calculation result of the current rating, the conductor temperature should be examined whether it reaches the maximum allowable temperature by the thermal equivalent circuit of the cable. Then, utilizing EMTP (Electro-Magnetic Transient Program) which is a conventional program for electrical circuit, the thermal equivalent circuit was transformed to an electric equivalent circuit using an analogous relationship between thermal circuit and electrical circuit, and temperature condition including cable conductor, sheath, cable jacket could be calculated by the current rating of 345 kV $2500mm^2$ XLPE cable.

등가조고를 이용한 자갈하천의 하상저항 산정 (Estimation of Bed Resistance in Gravel-bed Rivers Using the Equivalent Roughness Height)

  • 본 연구는 하상마찰의 척도인 등가조고를 이용하여 자갈하천의 하상저항을 산정하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 국내 8개 자갈하천에서 실측을 통하여 마찰계수 f를 산정하였고, 하상재료의 누가입경분포를 조사하였으며, 각 단면의 실측 마찰계수를 나타내기 위하여 대수 연직유속분포를 가정하여 계산된 평균 등가조고와 누가입경분포를 이용하여 계산된 구간 등가조고를 비교하였다. 더불어 등가조고를 사용하여 계산된 Manning 계수를 Strickler 유형의 기존 경험식에 의한 Manning 계수와 비교함으로써, 국내 자갈하천에서 기존 경험식을 이용한 하상저항 산정의 적용성을 검토하였다. 분석결과, 구간 등가조고가 대상구간의 하상특성을 대표할 수 있음을 확인하였고, 구간 등가조고로 계산된 Manning 계수가 실측 자료로부터 계산된 Manning 계수와 비교하여 RMS 오차가 0.003이하로 계산되어 실무 적용에 타당할 것으로 판된되었다. 또한 실제 하천에서 등가조고 $k_s$와 특정입경 $D_i$과의 비례계수 사이의 상관성이 적은 것으로 나타나, 하상 특정입경을 사용하여 Manning 계수를 산정하는 기존 경험식을 적용할 때 적절한 방정식의 선택에 어려움이 있을 것으로 판단된다.

동적모델을 이용한 대규모 전력계통의 등가 리액턴스와 저항 비율(X/R) 계산 (Dynamic Model Based Ratio Calculation of Equivalent Reactance and Resistance of the Bulk Power Systems)

  • 본 논문은 발전기, 변압기, 선로 및 부하로 구성 되는 복합 전력계통의 등가 리액턴스와 저항의 비율인 X/R 값을 더욱 효과적으로 계산하는 방법을 제안하고 이를 통해 실제 전력계통의 X/R 값을 계산하고 그 특성을 분석한다. 전력계통에서 X/R값은 전력계통의 차단기 정격을 결정하기 위해 사용되는 매우 중요한 값으로 주요 선로의 특징에 따라 X/R 값이 매우 커 전력계통의 해석에서는 등가저항(R)값을 고려하지 않는 것으로 인식되어 왔으나 이는 복합 전력계통에서 선로측만을 고려하였을 경우이고 전력계통의 모든 구성요소룰 고려할 경우 등가저항(R)의 값도 무시해서는 안 될 수준이 된다. 본 논문에서는 전력계통 해석에 널리 사용하고 있는 동적모델을 이용하여 전력계통의 X/R 값을 계산하는 방법을 제안하고 이를 시험계통에 적용하여 그 유용성을 검증 한 후 실제 대규모 복합 전력계통에서의 X/R 값을 분석한다. 또한 본 논문에서는 전력시장에서 사용되어 온 한계손실계수를 이용하여 X/R값이 계산위치의 발전기 근접도에 따라 달라지는 특성을 분석한다.

구조물 밀집지역 범람수치모의를 위한 상당저항계수 산정 수치실험 (Numerical Experiment for the Estimation of Equivalent Resistance Coefficient for the Simulation of Inundation over Densely Populated Structures)

  • 권 등(2008)은 수면보다 높은 사각기둥 저항체를 등간격으로 배치하고 항력계수가 일정한 값을 갖는 흐름조건$(Re>10^4)$에서 수리실험을 수행하여 바닥마찰과 형상저항에 의한 흐름저항을 나타내는 상당저항계수로서의 Manning계수 값을 산정하였다. 그리고 힘의 평형방정식으로부터 유도된 이론식에 실험결과를 사용하여 얻어진 경험적 항력상호작용계수를 도입하여 얻은 상당저항계수 식을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서는 이 수리실험을 3차원 전산유체해석 프로그램인 FLOW-3D를 사용하여 수치모의하고 그 결과를 실험결과 및 상당저항계수 식과 비교하여, 그값들이 매우 잘 일치하는 것을 보였다. 이로부터 이론식에 나타나 있는 것처럼 수면보다 높은 저항체가 존재할때 Manning계수가 수심의 2/3승으로 증가한다는 것과 항력상호작용계수가 이격거리의 지배적 영향을 받고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

석탄재의 강도 특성에 관하여 (The Strength and Characteristic of PCC Bottom Ash)

  • 석탄재는 석탄이 타고 남은 재로써 물리적 성질은 고은 모래정도이며 입자의 크기는 고은 자갈에서 고운 모래 사이다. 몇 가지 연구에서 석탄재는 건설재료의 하나인 모래와 대체 할 수 있다고 알려져 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 주입 공기 혼합 재를 사용한 석탄재의 혼합토를 직접 건설현장에 사용 하고자 하는데 있다. 실험 결과에 의하면 석탄재 혼합토는 압축, 인장 및 휨강도가 양생기간 초기에는 표준 혼합토보다 낮은 수치를 보이지만 60일이 지난 후엔 표준 혼합토보다 강도가 더 커졌다. 또한 Chloride 이온 통과 실험에서 석탄재의 시료토가 양생 초기에는 적은 저항력의 수치를 보였지만 시간이 흐를수록 강한 저항력을 보였다.

FE validation of the equivalent diameter calculation model for grouped headed studs

  • Existing design codes for steel-concrete composite structures give only general information about the shear connection provided by headed studs in group arrangement. Grouting of the openings in prefabricated concrete slabs, where the grouped headed studs are placed in the deck pockets is alternative to cast-in-place decks to accomplish fast execution of composite structures. This paper considers the possibility to reduce the distance between the studs within the group, bellow the Eurocode limitations. This may lead to increased competitiveness of the prefabricated construction because more studs are placed in the group if negative effectives of smaller distances between studs are limited. The main purpose of this work is to investigate these limits and propose an analytical calculation model for prediction of the shear resistance of grouped stud arrangements in the deck pockets. An advanced FEA model, validated by results of push-out experiments, is used to analyze the shear behavior of the grouped stud with smaller distance between them than recommended by EN 1994-1. Calculation model for shear resistance, which is consistent with the existing Eurocode rules, is proposed based on a newly introduced equivalent diameter of the stud group, $d_G$. The new calculation model is validated by comparison to the results of FE parametric study. The distance between the studs in the longitudinal direction and the number of stud rows and columns in the group are considered as the main variables.

접촉연소식 센서의 열 특성 및 가스반응의 모델링 (Electrical modelling for thermal behavior and gas response of combustible catalytic sensor)

  • This study provides the electrical model of combustible catalytic gas sensor. Physical characteristics such as thermal behavior, resistance change were included in this model. The finite element method analysis for sensor device structure showed that the thermal behavior of sensor is expressed in a simple electrical equivalent circuit that consists of a resistor, a capacitor and a current source. This thermal equivalent circuit interfaces with real electrical circuit using two parts. One is 'power to heat' converter. The other is temperature dependent variable resistor. These parts realized with the analog behavior devices of the SPICE library. The gas response tendency was represented from the mass transferring limitation theory and the combustion theory. In this model, Gas concentration that is expressed in voltage at the model, is converted to heat and is flowed to the thermal equivalent circuit. This model is tested in several circuit simulations. The resistance change of device, the delay time due to thermal capacity, the gas responses output voltage that are calculated from SPICE simulations correspond well to real results from measuring in electrical circuits. Also good simulation result can be produced in the more complicated circuit that includes amplifier, bios circiut, buffer part.
