  • We have suggested an equivalent circuit model for switching performance of bipolar spin transistor composed of a nonmagnetic metal film (N) sandwiched between two ferromagnetic metal films (F1 and F2). The 'ON' or 'OFF' operation of this equivalent circuit model is simulated by depending on the orientation of the magnetization of F1 and F2 rather than the strength of the external magnetic filed. Changing the coupling coefficient, turn number of two inductances, (L1:L2) like a transformer, and parallel variable resistance R4 connected to L2 at the collector region, we can explain the magnetic characteristics and the dependence of magneto resistance ratio on the orientation of spin-polarized electrons.

Development of a simplified equivalent braced frame model for steel plate shear wall systems

  • Steel Plate Shear Walls (SPSWs) have been accepted widely as an effective lateral load resisting system. For seismic performance evaluation of a multi-story building with SPSWs, detailed finite element models or a strip model can be used to represent the SPSW components. However, such models often require significant effort for tall or medium height buildings. In order to simplify the analysis process, discrete elements for the framing members can be used. This paper presents development of a simplified equivalent braced model to study the behavior of the SPSWs. The proposed model is expected to facilitate a simplification to the structural modeling of large buildings with SPSWs in order to evaluate the seismic performance using regular structural analysis tools. It is observed that the proposed model can capture the global behavior of the structures quite accurately and potentially aid in the performance-based seismic design of SPSW buildings.

  • 성능설계법에서 다층 건축물의 내진성능을 평가하기 위해서는 다자유도계를 등가 1자유도계로 변환할 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 다자유도계를 등가 1자유도계로 변환하여 다층 골조구조물의 층간변위 응답을 추정하는 방법을 제안한다. 본 연구의 목적은 다층 골조구조물과 등가 1자유도계의 시간이력해석을 수행하여 등가 1자유도계 변환 방법의 타당성을 확인하는 것이다. 다층 골조구조물의 시간이력해석에 의한 층간변위 응답과 등가 1자유도계에 의해 추정된 층간변위 응답을 비교하여, 등가 1자유도계에 의한 층간변위 응답에 대한 추정 방법의 타당성을 확인한다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 시간이력해석을 통하여 다자유도계를 등가 1자유도계로 변환하는 방법의 타당성을 확인할 수 있었다. 다층 골조구조물의 층간변위 응답은 비탄성 1차 모드를 이용한 등가 1자유도계의 변위응답으로부터 보다 정확히 추정할 수 있었다.

건물의 냉난방 운전을 고려한 3차원 동적 지중 열교환기 열해석 모델 (Three-dimensional Equivalent Transient Ground Heat Exchanger Thermal Analysis Model by Considering Heating and Cooling Operations in Buildings)

  • Application of geothermal energy in buildings has been gaining popularity as it provides the benefits of both heating and cooling a building. Among the various types of geothermal energy systems, ground-coupled heat pump system is the most commonly applied one in South Korea. A ground heat exchanger plays an important role as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. For the stable operation of a ground-coupled heat pump system, a ground heat exchanger should be sized so that it provides sufficient heating and cooling energy. Heating and cooling energies generated in ground heat exchangers mainly depend on the temperature difference between the heating medium in ground heat exchangers and the surrounding ground. In addition, the performance of ground heat exchangers influences the change in ground temperature. Therefore, it is necessary to consider this interrelation between the change in the ground temperature and the performance of ground heat exchanger for an accurate estimation of its performance. However, previous thermal analysis models for ground heat exchangers are not competent enough to allow a complete understanding of this interrelation. Therefore, this study proposes a three-dimensional equivalent, transient ground heat exchanger analysis model. First, a previous thermal analysis model for ground heat exchangers, including an analytical model, a g-function, and a numerical model are analyzed. Next, to overcome the limitations of the previous models, a three-dimensional equivalent, transient ground heat exchanger model is proposed. Finally, this study validated the proposed model with the measurement data of the thermal response test, sandbox test, and TRNSYS DST model. All validation results showed a good agreement. These findings helped us to investigate the thermal performance of ground heat exchangers more accurately than the analytical models, and faster than the numerical models. Furthermore, the proposed model contributes to the design of ground heat exchangers by considering the different operation conditions of buildings.

등가프레임모델을 이용한 공동주택의 감쇠시스템 설계 (Damping System Design for Apartment Buildings Using Equivalent Frame Model)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 감쇠시스템 설계 시 ASCE7-10의 등가선형해석과 응답스펙트럼해석의 설계절차 및 비선형해석에 간략화된 등가프레임모델을 제안하여, 선형 및 비선형 해석 시 소모되는 시간을 줄이고 해석 조건 및 변수조건을 다양화함으로 감쇠시스템 적용 시 효과를 합리적으로 검토하는데 있다. 이 연구에서는 최근에 이슈화 되고 있는 공동주택의 감쇠시스템 도입과 관련하여 ASCE7-10의 성능기반 내진설계를 근간으로 내진성능평가 및 감쇠시스템 설계를 비선형응답이력 해석을 통하여 수행하였다. 특히 공동주택 대상건물을 건축구조기준의 75% 지진력 수준으로 최적화 설계 시 내진성능평가를 수행하여 안전성을 검토하는 한편, 기준에 제시된 지진력 수준으로 내진설계 시 골조물량을 비교 하여 경제성을 검토하였다. 또한, 대상건물에 외부제어 이력형 감쇠장치를 적용 시 제안한 프레임 등가모델을 이용하여 ASCE7-10 감쇠시스템 설계를 수행하였으며 Full Scale Model에서 그 제어효과를 검증하였다.

토크 컨버터의 1차원 성능 모델을 이용한 유동 각도 보정 계수에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Correction Factor of Flow Angel by using the One Dimentional Performance Model of Torque Converter)

  • One dimensional performance model has been used for the design of torque converter. The model is based on the concept of constant mean flow path and constant flow angle. These constant-assumed para meters make the design procedure to be simple. In practice, some parameters are usually replaced with geometric raw data and, the constant experiential correction factors have been used to minimize the design error. These factors have no definite physical meaning and so they cannot be applied confidently to the other design condition. In this study, the detail dynamic model of torque converter is presented to establish the theoretical background of correction factors. To verify the validity of theoretical model, steady state performance test was carried out on the several input speed. The oil temperature effect on the performance is analysed and adjusted. The constant equivalent flow angles are determined at a part of performance region by comparing the theoretical model and the test data. The sensitivity of correction factors to the input speeds are studied and the change of torus flow is presented.

A new equivalent friction element for analysis of cable supported structures

  • An equivalent friction element is proposed to simulate the friction in cable-strut joints. Equivalent stiffness matrixes and load vectors of the friction element are derived and are unified into patterns for FEM by defining a virtual node specially to store internal forces. Three approaches are described to verify the rationality of the new equivalent friction element: applying the new element in a cable-roller model, and numerical solutions match well with experimental results; applying the element in a continuous sliding cable model, and theoretical values, numerical and experimental results are compared; and the last is applying it in truss string structures, whose results indicate that there would be a great error if the cable of cable supported structures is simulated with discontinuous cable model which is usually adopted in traditional finite element analysis, and that the prestress loss resulted from the friction in cable-strut joints would have adverse effect on the mechanical performance of cable supported structures.

  • The earthquake-resistant structural systems have to ensure the sufficient stiffness and ductility for the stability. For those purposes, recently, the performance design concept to increase the degree of absorbed energy level of structures has been proposed. One practical way of the performance design in the spatial structures is to apply the isolation system to boundary parts of roof system and sub-structure to obtain the target performance. So, it is necessary to examine the characteristics of dynamic behavior of spatial structures governed by higher modes rather than lower modes different from the cases of high rise buildings. The objectives of this paper are to develop the equivalent model to simplify the analytical processes and to investigate the dynamic behavior of roof system according to the mass and the stiffness of sub-structures as a fundamental study of performance design for the spatial structures.

Damping updating of a building structure installed with an MR damper

  • The purpose of this paper is to identify through experiments the finite element (FE) model of a building structure using a magnetorheological (MR) fluid damper. The FE model based system identification (FEBSI) technique evaluates the control performance of an MR damper that has nonlinear characteristics as equivalent linear properties such as mass, stiffness, and damping. The Bingham and Bouc-Wen models were used for modeling the MR damper and the equivalent damping increased by the MR damper was predicted by applying an equivalent linearization technique. Experimental results indicate that the predicted equivalent damping matches well with the experimentally obtained damping.
