Pistachio shell (Pistacia vera) (PS), a low-cost material, has been utilized for the removal of the Cr(VI) ions after treatment with citric acid. Batch experimental steps were applied to obtain Cr(VI) ion adsorption details for the equilibrium between Cr(VI) and modified pistachio shell (MPS). The influences of contact time, pH, adsorbent dose and initial chromium concentration on the adsorption performance of MPS was investigated in detail. The results displayed that adsorption of Cr(VI) by MPS reached to equilibrium after 2 h and after that a little change of Cr(VI) removal efficiency was observed. The sorption percent is higher at lower pH and lower chromium concentration. Two possible mechanisms for reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) can be suggested in Cr(VI) removal. In the first mechanism, Cr(VI) is reduced to Cr(III) by surface electron-donor groups of the adsorbent and the reduced Cr(III) forms complexes with adsorbent or remains in the solution. This Cr(III) is not adsorbed by adsorbent at pH 1.8. But in second mechanism, the adsorption-coupled reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) occurred on the adsorbent sites. The equilibrium sorption capacity of Cr(VI) ion after 2 h was 64.35 mg/g for MPS.
The adsorption equilibrium data for the binary gas mixture system from the pure gas adsorption data of carbon dioxide and ethylene on ZSM-5 prepared were predicted. The binary gas mixture adsorption data have been examined against predicted values by two models-the vacancy solution model(VSM) and the statistical thermodynamic model(STM), using parameters obtained from the single component isotherm. The binary gas mixture data for the carbon dioxide-ethylene system were obtained for cation exchanged forms of ZSM-5 for the gas phase carbon dioxide mole fraction of 0.752 at $37^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. The experimental adsorption phase diagrams were obtained for carbon dioxide-ethylene on sodium form ZSM-5 synthesized. The single component adsorption isotherms for carbon dioxide and ethylene were also obtained for this zeolite. The single component data were used to obtain parameters derived in two models. These parameters were, in turn, used to predict the binary mixture isotherms for this zeolite. Both the vacancy solution and the statistical thermodynamic models give satisfactory predictions of adsorption phase diagrams for the binary gas mixtures of carbon dioxide and ethylene on sodium exchanged ZSM-5. Also the correlation between the experimental data and the predicted values is generally in good agreement. The system appears to show ideal behavior with a relatively constant separation factor. The slight increase in adsorption capacity with an increase in ionic radius is due, in part, to the higher polarizability associated with larger cations.
This study used a packed column reactor and a horizontal flow mesh reactor to examine the removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions using pine bark, a natural adsorbent prepared from Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora). Both equilibrium and nonequilibrium adsorption experiments were conducted on copper ion concentrations of 10mg/L, and the removals of copper ions at equilibrium were close to 95%. Adsorption of copper ions could be well described by both the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The bark was treated with nitric acid to enhance efficiency of copper removal, and sorption capacity was improved by about 48% at equilibrium; mechanisms such as ion exchange and chelation may have been involved in the sorption process. A pseudo second-order kinetic model described the kinetic behavior of the copper ion adsorption onto the bark. Regeneration with nitric acid resulted in extended use of spent bark in the packed column. The horizontal flow mesh reactor allowed approximately 80% removal efficiency, demonstrating its operational flexibility and the potential for its practical use as a bark filter reactor.

Biomass of non-living brown seaweed Sargassun fluitans pretreated with NaOH is capable of taking up more than $10\%$$(q_{max}$ : 3.85 mmol/g for Al and 1.48 mmol/g for Cu) of its dry weight in the Al and Cu at pH of 4.5. However, the maximum Al and Cu uptakes calculated from Langmuir isotherm were 1.58 mmol/g for Al and 1.35 mmol/g for Cu at pH 3.5. Equilibrium batch sorption study was performed using two-metal system containing Al and Cu. The mathematical model of the two-metal sorption system enabled quantitative estimation of one-metal biosorption inhibition due to the influence of a second metal. NaOH-treated S. fluitans contained 2.19 mmol $(43\;wt.\%)$ carboxyl groups per gram of biomass. A modified form of Langmuir, which assumes binding of Cu as $Cu^{2+}$ and Al as $Al(OH)_2^+,$ was used to model the experimental data. This result agrees with the one of mono-valent sorption for Al in single-metal system. The modified Langmuir model gives the following affinity correlated coefficients: 0.196 for Cu and 6.820 for Ah at pH 4.5, and 2.904 for Cu and 3.131 for Al at pH 3.5. The interference of Al in Cu biosorptive uptake was assessed by `cutting' the three dimensional uptake isotherm surfaces at constant second-metal final concentrations. Equimolar final equilibrium concentrations of Cu and Al of 1 mM at pH 4.5 give Cu and hi uptakes reduced by $82.5\%\;and\;5.4\%,$ respectively. However, these values at pH 3.5 were $55\%\;(Cu)\;and\;31\%$ (Al).
The effects of temperature, initial $Pb^{2+}$concentration and initial sludge concentration on the initial $Pb^{2+}$ removal rate and maximal $Pb^{2+}$removal amounts in activated sludge, respectively, were investigated. The removal of $Pb^{2+}$ in activated sludge was proved to be temperature-dependent process. The initial $Pb^{2+}$ removal rate increased from 187.5 to 261.4 mg $Pb^{2+}$/g sludge dry weight min, in response to the promoted temperature from 1$0^{\circ}C$ to 6$0^{\circ}C$, while the maximal $Pb^{2+}$removal amount (78.5 mg $Pb^{2+}$/g sludge dry weight) occurred at 30t . As the initial $Pb^{2+}$concentration increased from 36 to 228 mg $Pb^{2+}$/L at the constant temperature of 30C and initial sludge concentration of 1.5 g sludge dry weight/L, the time to reach an equilibrium state was almost independent of the initial $Pb^{2+}$concentration and the equilibrium $Pb^{2+}$/removal amount was increased Irom 41.9 to 73.6 mg $Pb^{2+}$/g sludge dry weight. On the contrary, the equilbrium $Pb^{2+}$ emoval amount was decreased from 87.7 to 65.3 mg $Pb^{2+}$/g sludge dry weight as the in- crease of initial sludge concentration from 0.22 to 1.76 g sludge dry weight/L.

Recently, our circumstances are threatened by an accident that leakage of under ground storage tank and illegal dumping of synthetic organic compounds at chemical plants and many treatment methods, Activated carbon adsorption, Ozonization, Membrane filtration and Photocatalystic oxidation, are developed to remove such a synthetic organic compounds. And it has reported that Activated carbon adsorption have a great removal efficiency to nondegradable matters and organic compounds which have a high molecular weight. Comparing with other adsorbents, Activated carbon adsorption have a worse efficiency when ad desorption speed is low. Thus improved type of adsorbents was invented and one of those is Activated Carbon Filter. The purpose of this study was getting information about adsorption characteristic phenol which can be applied Activated Carbon Fiber and Granular Activated Carbon. In detail, With comparing removal characteristics of phenol in the presence Humic Acid using Activated Carbon Fiber(ACF) and Granular Activated. Carbon(GAC), it is to certify an effective application of Activated Carbon Fiber. At the range of this study, Batch test, Isotherm adsorption test and Factorial analysis, following conclusion were obtained from the results of this study. Batch test was carried to know time of adsorption equilibrium. In this study about time of adsorption equilibrium by ACF was faster than GAC's, for developed micropore of ACF. From the result of phenol adsorption test, High removal rate of adsorption is shown at pH 5. The result of lsotherm adsorption test, it has represented that the Freundlich's isotherm is most suitable one in others, that a ACF's adsorption capacity is more excellent than GAC's. Adsorption of phenol exiting humic acid is decreased getting raised humic acid concentration. Since ACF's micropore is developed at this time, an effect of high molecular humic acid is lower. Factorial analysis was carried to know about Main effect which was injection dosage of adsorbent in the range of this study.
The laboratory adsorption batch tests were performed to investigate the adsorption characteristics of Pb on kaolinite. The characteristics such as adsorption equilibrium time, adsorption capacity, adsorption isotherm were studied, and also the effects of pH and the mixing ratio on the adsorption of Pb on kaolinite were investigated. Test results show that the adsorption equilibrium state was reached within 24 hours, and the adsorbed amount of Pb increased, but the adsorption efficiency over the initial concentration of 198 mg/l decreased, with increasing the initial concentration of Pb. And the adsorption constant, 1/n was obtained 0.9584 by Freundlich isotherm equation. Regardless of the initial concentration of Pb. the adsorbed amount of Pb as well as the adsorption efficiency were increased with increasing pH values and converged to a certain constant value above 8 of pH values. And also the adsorbed amount of Pb increased with the mixing ratio, but its efficiency increased with the mixing ratio up to 8 and then showed the decreasing tendency above that.
The adsorption characteristics of coffee were mvestigated at $5, 15, 25, and 35^{\circ}C$ under various water activities such as 11, 32, 57, 75 and 90% and prediction models were developed by optimization program. The moisture adsorption isotherm curves were similar to the typical sigmoid type. The values of equilibrium moisture content and the monolayer moisture content were highest in the Freeze Dried, which was due to porous structure by the drying method. In the result of adjusting the isotherm models in this paper, Halsey model generally gave the best fit for isotherms of coffee. Prediction model for equilibrium moisture content was established with water activity and temperature. Adsorption prediction models were also developed with water activity, with water activity and time, and with water activity, time and temperature, respectively.

In this work, α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals are synthesized by co-precipitation method and used as adsorbent to remove Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ from wastewater at room temperature. The prepared sample is evaluated by XRD, BET surface area, and FESEM for structural and morphological characteristics. XRD patterns confirm the formation of a pure hematite structure of average particle size of ~ 40 nm, which is further supported by the FESEM images of the nanocrystals. The nanocrystals are found to have BET specific surface area of ~ 39.18 m2 g-1. Adsorption experiments are carried out for the different values of pH of the solutions, contact time, and initial concentration of metal ions. High efficiency Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ removal occur at pH 3, 7, and 5.5, respectively. Equilibrium study reveals that the heavy metal ion adsorption of the α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ adsorption equilibrium data are best fitted to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacities of α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals related to Cr6+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ are found to be 15.15, 11.63, and 20 mg g-1, respectively. These results clearly suggest that the synthesized α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals can be considered as potential nano-adsorbents for future environmental and health related applications.
The adsorption properties of $Cs^+$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions were evaluated by using a polysulfone scoria zeolite (PSf-SZ) composite with synthetic zeolite synthesized from Jeju volcanic rocks (scoria). In order to investigate the adsorption properties, various parameters, such as pH, contact time, reaction rate, concentration, and temperature in aqueous solutions, were evaluated by tests carried out in batch experiments. The adsorption capacities of $Cs^+$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions increased between pH 2 but achieved equilibrium at pH 4 and above. The adsorption rate increased rapidly up to the initial 24 h, after which it plateaued ; the adsorption rate then sustained at equilibrium from 48 h. The adsorption kinetics of $Cs^+$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions were described better by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The Langmuir model fitted the adsorption isotherm data better than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacities of $Cs^+$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions obtained from the Langmuir model were 53.8 mg/g and 84.7 mg/g, respectively. The calculated thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of $Cs^+$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions on PSf-SZ was feasible, spontaneous and endothermic reaction.
