  • The purpose of this paper is to present a new algorithm for extracting the consensus pattern, or motif from sequence belonging to the same family. Two methods are considered for feature interval partitioning based on equal probability and equal width interval partitioning. C2H2 zinc finger protein and epidermal growth factor protein sequences are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for motif extraction. For two protein families, the equal width interval partitioning method performs better than the equal probability interval partitioning method.

  • This study is about the human sensibility measurement method. Researches on human sensibility measurement have been performed in many aspects. However, due to the subtlety and intricacy of human sensibility, it has been difficult to exactly measure human sensibility. At present, Semantic Differential(SD) method is most widely used to quantify human sensibility. In SD method, complicate human sensibility is represented on a scale with equal interval or equal ratio. However, this method has a critical problem in that human sensibility cannot be expressed with equal interval or equal ratio. In order to complement SD method and represent human sensibilities appropriately, we proposed an alternative method using the chroma-scale with saturation that had not equal interval or ratio. In experiment, proposed method shown that subjects understood a new scale easily and they could express their sensibilities on a new scale without any limitation. As a result, the chroma-scale can be used not only for measuring consumer's preference but also for evaluating or selecting sensibility words.

  • Studies on the principle of traditional moulding techniques of architecture or structure are very important in the point of the work could accomplish succession to modern design. As an attempt of these work, this study tried to examine traditional moulding techniques applied in planes of ancient architecture and structure closely. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows; It was verified that planes of ancient Korean architectures and structures analyzed in this study was moulded by its multiple partitions with the six or eight partitions of circumference as the fundamental form. The well unearthed in kyong-bok palace recently was moulded by a concentric circle assumed form of 4 circle which was extended with equal interval and divided into multiple of 8 partition of circumference. Chon-duk-jung in chang-duk palace also was moulded by a concentric circle assumed form of 3 circle extended with equal interval, but circle were divide by 6 partitions. It was also found that 6$^{\circ}$§8 partitions of circumference(or its multiple partition) was applied to not only above structures but also the moulding planes of ancient architecture, and as a results, figures revealed in architectures analyzed is classified into three classes. And, this study analyzed arrangements of two temples. As a results, it is discovered that the Grid used in moulding planes of each building fixed the arrangement of buildings. Therefore, moulding by equal partition of circumference decided the form of each building and the relation of element at the same time.

  • Chanas(2001) introduced the notion of interval approximation of a fuzzy number with the condition that the width of this interval is equal to the width of the expected interval. In this note, this condition is relaxed and the resulting formulae are derived for determining the approximation interval. This interval is compared with the expected interval and approximation interval of a fuzzy number as introduced by Chanas.

  • The problem of simultaneously estimating the pairwise differences of means of four independent normal populations with equal variances is considered. A statistical computing procedure involving a trivariate t density constructs the exact confidence intervals with simultaneous co verage probability equal to $1-\alpha$. For equal sample sizes, the new procedure is the same as the Tukey studentized range procedure. With unequal sample sizes, in the sense of efficiency for confidence interval lengths and experimentwise error rates, the procedure is superior to the various generalized Tukey procedures.

  • The experiment was carried out to investigate the optimal air velocity for improving the ventilation efficiency of duct ventilation system used in Korean swine building. The results are followed ; In 2.2 m height of duct, the air velocity of hole was 5.0 m/s as the over level of recommendation. In different hole interval, the air velocity was various of 4.6${\sim}$11.6 m/s in narrow hole interval, 5.4${\sim}$10.9 m/s in broad hole interval. But the air velocity was 6.6${\sim}$7.7 m/s in duct system pierced hole with equal interval, and it was equal velocity in different parts of duct in this hole interval.

  • Undoubtedly, the basic sinking fund formula gives the future value of a series of equal installments. The main underlying assumption for using this formula is that installment and compounding frequency must be in equal interval. But when installment for a deposit scheme or any other savings scheme and compounding frequency do not occur in an equal interval, which is treated as the complex annuity problems in Finance Literature, the basic sinking fund formula does not give the accurate result. As a result, the obtainable amount from different deposit schemes offered by different banks and financial institutions does not match with the amount of future value calculated through the basic sinking fund formula by the investors or savers. This study focuses the concealed facts for such type of mismatches in values and at the same time it provides a solution through developing a new formula by extending the basic formula intended not only to remove those mismatches but also get the accurate future value from a sinking fund provision in case of complex annuity. Besides, since banks and financial institutions calculate the interest on the average amount of equal installments deposited within a period of time due to complex annuity, the study also formulates an arithmetic formula for calculating the average amount of installment.

  • In discriminant analysis, we consider a special pattern which contains a block of missing observations. We assume that the two populations are equally likely and the costs of misclassification are equal. In this situation, we consider the bootstrap confidence intervals of the error rate in the circular models when the covariance matrices are equal and not equal.

  • In this paper, we propose an estimation method of the parameter in an exponential distribution based on a progressive Type I interval censored sample with semi-missing observation. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the parameter in the exponential distribution cannot be obtained explicitly because the intervals are not equal in length under the progressive Type I interval censored sample with semi-missing data. To obtain the MLE of the parameter for the sampling scheme, we propose a method by which progressive Type I interval censored sample with semi-missing data is converted to the progressive Type II interval censored sample. Consequently, the estimation procedures in the progressive Type II interval censored sample can be applied and we obtain the MLE of the parameter and survival function. It will be shown that the obtained estimators have good performance in terms of the mean square error (MSE) and mean integrated square error (MISE).
