In this work, the cure kinetics and rheological properties of difunctional epoxy(diglycidylether of bisphenol A, DGEBA)/polysulfone (PSF) blends were investigated using differential scanning calorimeter and rheometer. From the DSC results of the blends, the temperature of the exothermic peak and cure activation energy (E) using a half-width method were increased with increasing the PSF content to neat epoxy resin up to 30 wt%. However, a marginal decrease in the blend system was shown in E. The conversion ($\alpha$) and conversion rate (d$\alpha$/dt) were decreased as the content of PSF increases. Rheological properties of the blend system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer. Cross-linking activation energy (E$_{c}$) was determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. As a result, the E$_{c}$ showed a similar behavior with E which could be resulted from high viscosity of PSF and the phase separation between DGEBA and PSF.PSF.f PSF and the phase separation between DGEBA and PSF.PSF.
This study was investigated to fabricate the isotropic $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$/epoxy bonded magnets with high characteristics paroduced by compression molding. The magnetic characteristics of the bonded magnets were directly proportional to the density of the magnets and were enhanced by using raw $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ magnetic powders, having the mean particle size of $200{\mu} m$.without additional milling process. The high characteristics of the bonded magnets were achieved at the following conditions: epoxy resin of 2.0 wt%, silane coupling agent of 0.8 wt%, curing agent of 0.7 wt% on the base of magnetic powders, and curing condition of $150^{\circ}C$/3 hrs. The bonded magnets at the optimum conditions indicated the high characteristics such as the density of 6.1 g/㎤, the remanent flux density of 7.1 kG, the maximum energy product of 9.7 MGOe, and the compressive strength of 17 kg/$mm^2$.
The electrolytic plating of a metallic nickel on carbon fiber surfaces was carried out to improve mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composites. The surface characteristics of carbon fibers and the mechanical interfacial properties of final composites were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), respectively. It was found that the electrolytic Ni-plating conditions significantly affected the degree of adhesion at interfaces between carbon fibers and epoxy resin matrix in a composite system. Especially, the increase of O,$_{1s}$/$C_{1s}$ ratio, production of NiO groups, and formation of metallic nickel on the nickel-plated carbon fiber surfaces led to an increase of the ILSS of the composites. Also, the ILSS of the composites was greatly correlated with the $O_{1s}$/$C_{1s}$ ratio of the carbon fibers treated in this work.is work.
Solid polymer electrolytes were prepared by UV irradiation of the blends consisting of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO), epoxy diacrylate(EDA) and LiClO_4$. Conductivities of the electrolyte films were measured as a function or blend composition, salt concentration and temperature. The electrolyte having the composition of poly(ethylene oxide) (70% by weight)/epoxy diacrylate (30% by weight) with mole ratio of 10 of ethylene $oxide/Li^+$ exhibited a high ionic conductivity of $1.2{\times}10^{-5} S/cm$ at $25^{\circ}C$. This blend is transparent and shows elastomeric properties. Morphological studies by means of differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and polarized optical microscopy indicated that the cured epoxy chains in the blends inhibit the crystallization of poly (ethylene oxide) and thereby induce the blend systems to be completely amorphous in certain compositions.

The curing kinetics and mechanical properties of siloxane-diaminodiphenylmethane (ETSO-DDM) on the two kinds of bisphenol (BPH) system which are DGEBA and DGEBF were investigated with the different contents of ETSO. To investigate the curing kinetics of the ETSO-DDM/BPH systems, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was used. The mechanical properties of ETSO-DDM/BPH systems were also examined by universal testing machine (UTM), tensile test and flexural test. From experimental results, the activation energies and mechanical properties of ETSO-DDM/BPH were improved with the decrease contents of ETSO. This was due to the high cross-linking density made from short length of ETSO-DDM, resulting in improving the mechanical inter-locking between ETSO-DDM and BPH in these systems.
In this work, the effect of electroless Ni-plating of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on thermal conductivity and fracture toughness properties of MWCNTs/$Al_2O_3$/epoxy composites was investigated. The surface properties of the Ni-plated MWCNTs were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. Thermal conductivity was tested using a thermal conductivity measuring system. The fracture toughness of the composites was carried out through the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) measurement. As a result, the electroless Ni-plated MWCNTs led to a significant change of surface characteristics of the MWCNTs. Thermal conductivity and fracture toughness of the MWCNTs/$Al_2O_3$/epoxy composites were greater than those of non-treated ones. These results were probably due to the improvement of intermolecular interaction between the Ni-MWCNTs and the matrix resins.

BCB $Resin-BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$(BNT) composites with BNT contents were prepared by tape casting method and epoxy resin-BNT composites were prepared by using heating press. Their dielectric properties and microstructures were investigated. The dielectric properties such as dielectric constant and dielectric loss at 1 MHz for epoxy resin-BNT composites and BCB resin-BNT composites are improved with an increase of BNT volume fraction. The dielectric constant of the Epoxy-BNT composite increased from 5.9 to 7.8 as the volume fraction of BNT increased from 15 to 25. The dielectric constant of the BCB-BNT composite increased from 9.1 to 15.5 as the volume fraction of BNT increased from 30 to 50. The dielectric behavior of BCB-BNT system can be explained by Lichtenecker's equation. The dielectric constant of epoxy resin-BNT composite is smaller than that of BCB resin-BNT composite. These results are considered to be related with the dispersion of BNT filler in polymer matrix from the result of SEM photograph.
In this work, the thermal and mechanical properties of vapor grown carbon nanofibers (VGCNFs)-reinforced difunctional epoxy (EP) composites were investigated in the presence of the 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and $2wt\%$ VGCNFs. The thermal properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were studied by thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The mechanical properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were also examined by universal testing machine (UTM), falling impact test, and the friction and wear tests. From experimental results, the thermal and mechanical properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were improved with increasing the VGCNFs contents. This was due to the increase of crosslinking structure of the composites, resulting in improving the mechanical interlockings between VGCNFs and epoxy resins in the present composite system.
Nondestructive damage sensitivity of carbon nanotube(CNT) and nanofiber (CNF)/epoxy composites with their adding contents was investigated using electro-micromechanical technique. Carbon black (CB) was used only for the comparison with CNT and CNF. The fracture of carbon fiber was detected by acoustic emission (AE), which was correlated to the change in electrical resistance, ΔR under double-matrix composites (DMC) test. Stress sensing on carbon nanocomposites was performed by electro-pullout test under uniform cyclic loading. At the same volume fraction, the damage sensitivity for fiber fracture, matrix deformation and stress sensing were highest for CNT/epoxy composite, whereas for CB/epoxy composite they were the lowest among three carbon nanomaterials (CNMs). Damage sensitivity was correlated with morphological observation of carbon nanocomposites. Homogeneous dispersion among CNMs could be keying parameters for better damage monitoring. In this study, damage sensing of carbon nanocomposites could be evaluated well nondestructively by the electrical resistance measurement with AE.
Two functionalization methods, i.e., acid treatment and chemical amidation were performed to prepare the functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), and the properties of epoxy/functionalized MWCNT composites were investigated and compared. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to confirm the surface functionality of the MWCNT obtained by the functionalization methods. The effects of the MWCNT functionalization on the interface and thermal conductivity were studied by zeta potential analyzer, scanning electron microscope and thermal conductivity analyzer. From these results, it was confirmed that the thermal conductivity of the epoxy/MWCNT composites could be increased by grafting with dodecylamine. This could be interpreted by relatively strong dispersion forces of the grafting MWCNT with dodecylamine in DGEBF epoxy resin. These results were in good agreement with the results that the zeta potential value of the grafting MWCNT with dodecylamine has a higher negative value than that of MWCNT with acid treatment.
