  • Economy of Communion (EoC) is an emerging economic principle that recognizes the dilemma of traditional perspectives and turns to human centered values and ideas. Furthermore the EoC encompasses all the principles derives from free market economy, ethical norm and social solidarity. This study aims to understand Economy of Communion concepts and its ripple effects under current Korean economy condition which mainly follows Neo-liberalism. Korean economy needs new paradigm to deal with intensifying economical inequality in Korea these days. By understanding EoC's primary value and studying research cases and Sungsimdang, Seokwangsa one of EoC enterprise cases in Korea, this study suggests new economic paradigm. In response to the needs, two important practices should be manifested through fraternity: 1) mutural equity, and 2) dissemination of giving culture. These are construct the economy of communion, which is defined as unique humanism. This study is also expected to suggest new paradigm that establishes new economy system that can cover current economy system's problems.

  • Gibbs' adsorption isotherms are studied to assay the structural effects of ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO) moieties on the molecular area and the interfacial tension behavior of molecules at the interface. Several industrial alcohols and isomerically pure alcohols, which have a general stucture of C4H9O(EO)m(PO)nH, are examined for their cosurfactant properties. They are high molecular weight alcohols and more surface active than the cosurfactants usually used. Results show that the number and the sequence of EO and PO units significantly affect the molecular areas and the interfacial tension (IFT) behavior of these molecules at the water/oil interface. The following conclusions are drawn from the result: 1) PO is more efficient in lowering the IFT and less effective in adsorption than EO. 2) For molecules having the same molecular weight but different structures, smaller molecules are more efficient in lowering the IFT. 3) When more EO, PO, or both units are added to the same hydrophobe, the molecule become bigger and more efficient in lowering the IFT.

  • The surface tension of PO added sodium poly(oxyethylene(EO), oxyisopropylene(PO)) dodecyl ether sulfate firstly were slightly lower than EO added sulfate in the concentration range of $10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-3}mol/{\ell}$. And they had lower critical micelle concentration ($10^{-4}{\sim}9{\times}10^{-5}mol/{\ell}$) than general anionic surfactants. The adsorptivity ($2.2{\times}10^{-10}mol/cm^2$) of sodium $(PO)_{10}(EO)_5$ dodecyl ether(compound of PO addition firstly) calculated by Gibbs' adsorption isotherm were higher than that of sodium $(EO)_{10}(PO)_5$, dodecyl ether(compound of EO addition firstly), but were lower than that of sodium dodecyl sulfate (${\Gamma}=3.2{\times}10^{-10}mol/cm^2$). These could be understood that the adsorption areas of compounds were very large because of their high molecular weight. Moreover, PO compounds showed better properties than EO compounds in foamability, emulsifying power for organics (n-hexane, benzene), detergency for the lard, tallow oil mixture and dispersability for iron oxide. It was interpreted in terms of surface properties of the PO compounds. These showed that the interfacial activity become higher when hydrophilic and hydrophobic portion existed in aggoromerated state respectively. The test results of emulsifying power for organics (n-hexane, benzene) showed better for benzene than n-hexane. Eight kinds of sodium (EO, PO) dodecyl ether derivatives showed irregular dispersibilities for polar iron oxide in water dispersed media.

  • Recently, residential spaces in urban areas have changed into multi - family residential spaces. There is a feature that smoke is charged when a fire occurs here. Also, the evacuation route and the direction of the outflow of smoke are the same, and the possibility of inhaling the smoke of the evacuees is very high. When fighting fire in a narrow residential space such as a dwelling in a downtown area, exploration is the most important. For this purpose, we implement EO / IR sensor which can be mounted on firefighter 's helmet and can be used for fire detection. By using the EO / IR operation test, we can derive the results that can be used for research and development of the fire search sensor.

  • The comparative effects of ethylene oxide(EO) fumigation and gamma irradiation (5 kGy) were determined on the chemical components of exportable ginseng-leaf tea which is required for improving the hygienic quality. Saponins and fatty acids detected in the samples were found to be resistant to both treatments at the practical levels. In an experiment on free sugar and amino acids, however, quantitative analysis has shown that glucose, lysine and histidine in the samples are significantly decreased by EO fumigation (p<0.05) and that negligible changes were observed in gamma-irradiated samples.

  • As the cetyltrimenthy ammonium bromide (CTAB) concentration increases to $2{\times}10^{-4}$/M the absorption maximum of ethyl orange (EO) makes a blue shift from 475 mm to 395 mm. At higher concentration of CTAB than $2{\times}10^{-4}$ / M the absorption maximum shifts to higher wavelength than 395 nm. A new peak at 395 nm is shown to result from the mixed micelle due to dye stacking interaction rather than from a change in dye geometry. Because Raman spectra of EO on interaction with varying amount of CTAB are similar to that of EO in water. EO retains trans azo type on interaction with CTAB. There is a change of c.m.c.s. of CTAB for the mixed micelle in the presence of salt. The effect of added salt on C. M. C. of CTAB for the mixed micelle is given that the logarithm of the c. m. c. is a linear function of the logarithm of the sum of the c. m. c. and the concentration of added salt.

  • EoL-1 cells differentiate into eosinophils in the presence of n-butyrate, but the mechanism has remained to be elucidated. Because n-butyrate can inhibit histone deacetylases, we hypothesized that the inhibition of histone deacetylases induces the differentiation of EoL-1 cells into eosinophils. In this study, using n-butyrate and two other histone deacetylase inhibitors, apicidin and trichostatin A, we have analyzed the relationship between the inhibition of histone deacetylases and the differentiation into eosinophils in EoL-1 cells. It was demonstrated that apicidin and n-butyrate induced a continuous acetylation of histones H4 and H3, inhibited the proliferation of EoL-1 cells, and induced the expression of markers for mature eosinophils such as integrin ${\beta}7$, CCR1, and CCR3 on EoL-1 cells, while trichostatin A evoked a transient acetylation of his tones and induced no differentiation into eosinophils. These findings suggest that the continuous inhibition of histone deacetylases in EoL-1 cells induces the differentiation into mature eosinophils.

  • S100A8 and S100A9 are associated with myeloid cell differentiation, chemotactic activities, adhesion of neutrophils, and apoptosis. In this study, we investigated the contribution of S100A8 and S100A9 to differentiation of the human eosinophilic leukemia cell line, EoL-1. S100A8 and S100A9 increased the number of vacuole per one cell and the protein expression of EPO and MBP. Rottlerin, an inhibitor of protein kinase C delta ($PKC{\delta}$), inhibited the EoL-1 cell differentiation induced by S100A8 and S100A9. These results suggest that S100A8 and S100A9 may regulate the differentiation of eosinophilic progenitors. Moreover, these findings may shed light on elucidation of eosinophil differentiation due to S100 proteins.

  • Eighteen specimens of juvenile Mugilidae were collected in October 2012 from the southern coastal waters of Jeju Island, and identified based on analysis of their mitochondrial DNA16S rRNA sequences. Seventeen specimens of Oedalechilus labiosus and a single specimen of Ellochelon vaigiensis were found, constituting a new record for these species among Korean ichthyofauna. O. labiosus is identified by the angle at the posterior end of its mouth, which contains a round notch, a darkish dorsal margin of the pectoral fin, the presence of 33-36 lateral line scales, and 23-24 vertebrae. E. vaigiensis is identified by dark dorsal and pectoral fins, the presence of 26 lateral line scales, and 25 vertebrae. The proposed Korean name for Oedalechilus is 'Sol-ip-sung-eo-sok' and that for Ellochelon is 'Nup-jeok-ggo-ri-sung-eo-sok'. The proposed Korean names for the species are 'Sol-ip-sung-eo' and 'Nup-jeok-ggo-ri-sung-eo' for O. labiosus and E. vaigiensis, respectively. We present a key for identification of the Mugilidae family of species from Korea, and include these two newly recorded species.
