In this study, thermal environment changes for a marathon course of IAAF World Championship, Daegu 2011 were modeled to provide improvements of thermal environment, so that runners could have the maximum condition and citizens pleasant streets. The three biggest size of intersections were selected for the study. Envi-met, 3G microclimate model, were used for a thermal environment analysis and three different cases - present status, planting roadside tree scenario, and roof-garden scenario - were compared. The followings are the results of the study. 1. The highest thermal distribution were shown at 1 p.m., but there was no significant difference between a thermal distribution at 1 p.m. and that at 5 p.m. since a heat flux from buildings affects thermal distributions rather than insolation does. 2. Tree planting or adding environmental friendly factors might lead a temperature drop effect, but the effect was not significant for areas covered with impermeability packing materials such as concrete or asphalt (especally, for Site case 2) 3. The combination of tree planting and adding environmental friendly factors also brought a temperature drop effect (Site 1 and 2) and this case showed even better result if green spaces (especially, parks) were closed.

Apartments recently built have been strategically designed in many ways, and one of the most striking aspects is to utilize the idea of environmental friendliness and the application to the living environment. Especially, the number of environmentally friendly apartments that concern the health of residents have been increasing and their landscape is notably differentiated. The purpose of this research study was to examine the landscape of the environmentally friendly apartments that have been built in the past five years, and to assess its features in the aspects of therapeutic garden. Based upon the review of previous studies, this study constructed a checklist that was used to evaluate the planning components of the landscape during site visits. This study found that overall landscape selected in the study was well-planned. However, it was suggested that more features of therapeutic garden such as vegetation area which both encourages interaction with residents and produces therapeutic benefits be adopted in planning the advanced therapeutic garden of environmentally friendly apartments.

Recently, the community developmental enthusiasm is activated and emerged with the varied developmental plans since the localization was implemented in Korea. But the anxious view of the environmental problems has been gradually heightened in the Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Developmental(ESSD). The local autonomy should listen to the public opinions because the people's anti-developmental movement could obstruct the development project in the community level. The Environment-friendly Rural Development Plan(EFRDP) pursues the development and the environmental preservation of the community at the same time. Therefore EFRDP reflects the local developmental intention and consideration of environmental preservation at the step of planning. Throughout the planning process the opinions of development and environmental preservation should be adjusted, the people's planning ability can be enhanced, and new creative alternative ideas will come out at times.

Considerable amount of resources on roads, basic infrastructure, to promote economic development and distribution of goods is invested. Despite the necessity, its undesirable side effects are various environmental problems In order to efficiently evaluate these problems more than before, planning indictors for environment-friendly road constructions is proposed in this study. First, we make an investigation into real-life cases where the extracted planning indicators were applied. Second, it is suggested that an alternative assessment method efficaciously evaluate and/or adopt extracted planning indictors on road construction projects. Finally, criteria to determine environmental impacts with respect to planning indicators and apply them into real cases is proposed. This study has its significance in upgrading past pro-environmental indictors for road construction, suggesting reasonable applications of planning indicators, and setting criteria to determine environmental impacts based on planning indicators.

The objective of this study is to interpret a typical Korean traditional settlement for searching for planning criteria of ecological friendly housing estates. The interpreting framework is five environmental ecological ideas as the adaptation to the exterior of village, the eco-space in village, the interior of house, the cycling of material and the reasonable energy system, prevention of environment pollution and reduction of wastes. Through the interpretation, it has been found out that Bang chon village has been developed to an environmental ecological rational setting and has the meaningful elements for environmental friendly housing estates. Particularly, the spatial components of Bang-chon are characterized by the concept of multi-function, and diversity, which are worth of being considered as important planning of ecological friendly housing estates.

The purpose of this study is to establish the management plannings for the conservation and environmentally friendly use of Korean coastal wetlands. The function, economic value, and the necessity for the conservation of coastal wetlands are described. The current management status, Korean Governmental policies for the use of coastal wetlands, and their problems are surveyed and analysed. The management plannings for the environmentally friendly use of Korean coastal wetlands is suggested as follows: (1) The coastal wetlands need to be divided into 3 different regions based on PSR(Pressure, State, Response) of OECD. (2) Each region should be managed by appropriate management plans which are suggested in Chapter IV of this paper. Finally, in order to realize these management plannings the change of Governmental system and laws are suggested as follows: (1) The change of relevant laws is required. Additionally, each region should managed by proper governmental agencies. (2) The EIA(Environmental Impact Assessment) system should be improved. (3) The participation of regional people should be guaranteed in the decision making processes of the business and other important planning regarding coastal wetlands. (4) The system which primed the ecological value of coastal wetlands should be established.

Recently, urban mixed-use commercial facilities have been required to raise a safe environment in public areas. So, this study focuses on analyze planning factors selected through the precedent research for Pedestrian safety and environment of urban mixed-use commercial facilities. The first purpose of this study is to analyse the applicative estimation of environmental plan to support pedestrians in public space of urban mixed-use commercial facilities in Seoul. And the second purpose of this study is to propose the directions of environmental planning for creating a pedestrian-friendly environment in public space of urban mixed-use commercial facilities. In order to accomplish this purpose, the environmental planning factors for supporting pedestrians and guidelines for disabled shown in the precedent studies are drawn. A survey of research subjects are 4 urban mixed-use commercial facilities located in downtown Seoul. And then a questionnaire survey is performed on architecture and interior design students to evaluate the importance. As a result of the study, the following conclusion are drawn. The pedestrian-friendly environment in urban mixed-use commercial facilities requires planning to strengthen accessibility, supporting and safety of public space.

This study suggested 'Environmental Friendly City Model' and 'Energy Planning Process' according to the increasing necessity of 'Energy Saving Green City and 3 technologies like (1)Urban Spatial Modeling, (2)Urban Energy Consumption, (3)Urban Energy Supply Planning technologies were suggested which are able to support sustainable urban energy planning'. The results are as follows. (1)E-GIS modeling system was suggested as a 'Planning Supporting System'. (2)Urban Energy Consumption Algorithm was systemized with planning information of E-GIS DB. (3)Urban Energy System Location was deduced by integrating E-GIS DB and ANN algorithm.

This study aims to investigate the eco-friendly planning methods for a sustainable apartment houses in the Metropolitan area of Seoul. Eco-friendly plans that considers the environmental issues were attempted from the beginning of 2000s, and since then, many apartment houses in Korea were built using this concept. They were, however, generally focusing on the physical and spatial aspects of the site plan. After the Seoul C40 weather summit conference in 2009, the low carbon green housing standard has been emphasized and thus the chemical concept was added to the existing physical planning methods. Under such a background, this study intends to investigate the eco-friendly plans for the apartment houses in the 2000s. This includes an ecological network plan, an ecological base plan, a building greening plan, a water treatment plan, and an energy saving plan. Based on the analysis and synthesis of these planning methods in the early 21st century, it would be possible to set up a proper future plan to enhance the sustainable built environment in the housing industry in the coming years.

This study was intended to examine the change in the perception of the professionals for the environment-friendly apartments. After result of implementing the question survey against the professionals two times, the degree of importance in the environment-friendly design elements didn't show any significant change. However, it showed the degree of maturity on the concept of environment-friendly development is widely spreaded in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. Based on the description of such results, the conclusion can be deduced as follow; 1) Presumably it would require 5 years for the diffusion of the concept of environment-friendly apartments and 10 years for the construction of developing its materialization and settlement respectively, 2) The proper density would be designed in $150{\sim}200%$ in view of the environmental and economic aspects. 3) It is necessary to change the existing system into the District Unit oriented planning & design method in order to apply the environmental design elements in smooth manner.
